That's nice. I guess I'll try it out on a live DVD some time. I have been a Redhat/Fedora user for 9 years, but unfortunately FC6 was unable to load on my latest PC with an Intel 965 motherboard, so I had to switch,....

    Tell me about it!

I have a PII with 64MB of RAM and, so far, the only hing that works well is RH 8! Which, believe it or not, is still pretty good for what I do - testing my code for my business' website. (All I do is HTML and some PHP nothing major.)

I tried Ubuntu 6.1, but it didn't quite work out - no, I'm not saying more because I don't want to start a distro flame war!

I wish I could run something current on that box.

OK. Or have all of the ISPs build their own switches. That's what competition is all about. Otherwise, we will always have a monopoly. When the local monopoly phone company says, "Well if you want inerne service, you have to buy our phone service, and our cable service; otherwise you get nothing" (See Bellsouth i.e. AT&T now in many areas where they don't have competition), I guess you're right and we, the schlubs, just have to suck it up because they built the switch and as a result, they're entitled to gouge us.

Anyway, this is the problem with the "information society": there's so much information on people out there, a lot of it incorrect, and it's being used as if it's a fact - [satire]it is on the computer, after all! [/satire]

And as more and more information is collected, it is only going to make it worse and easier for identity thieves. Why, with every zipperhead bureaucrat running around with laptops with this information and with insider's willing to sell your information to criminals, it's only going to get worse - IMHO.

I had a really interesting conversation with a banker the other day. She's seeing more and more identity thieves. All she can do is refuse the transaction and call the cops when she catches one - the thief takes off. How did this conversation start? I asked why I needed all of this identification and all this paperwork just to open a checking account for my business. Long story short - PATRIOT ACT. Yes sir, in order to "protect" us from the terrorists and drug lords, our government is making it easier and easier for these crooks to steal our information by requiring certain businesses to gather as much information as possible and NOT requiring them to secure it properly.

There's always a huge line at the gas pumps and for me, with my 4 cylinder, $0.10 a gallon isn't worth waiting 20 minutes. But, you guessed it, most of the line is SUVs, pickup trucks, and large cars. (The Mercedes folks got me scratching my head. I guess they're in hock up the ass to buy their car so they have to scrimp everywhere else.)
