  1. Re:Not a single bison shall stand on History of MECC and Oregon Trail · · Score: 1

I hated when I really DID need food, and I shot an 800 pound bison, and could only carry 100 pounds back to the family. For god's sake, make two trips!

The other thing I hated was playing the game on a faster machine (I forget which exactly, I think we oringially had IIc, but then upgraded to IIgs) and the faster processor speed meant the animals ran so fast you had no chance of hitting any of them.

Whatever the original artistic intent of this ending was, it occurred to me that if I was going to depict a guy getting whacked who never saw it coming - from that guy's own perspective - this might be just how I'd portray that.

  3. But what about tablets? on Puncturing the "PCs Are Cheaper Than Macs" Myth · · Score: 1

When I was in the market for a new notebook, I thought about getting a macbook but what I really wanted was a tablet. I do a lot of drawing, and being able to draw directly onto my screen-canvas was a godsend.

There was an on-line petition which aimed to convince Apple to make a Tablet Mac, but until they release one I had to go with a Toshiba Satelite. It ran about $1100, which wasn't too bad and I'm satisfied with it.

What are the chances a Tablet Mac would be in the same price range?

That sounds like the book Jennifer Government, where everyone's last name is taken from the corporation they work for.

I was able to track one down from EBGames using the following URL:

    http://www.gamestop.com/productavail.asp?miles=50& sku=020070&zip=33607&product_name=nintendo+wii&pla tforms=&sbox=&status=&bn=False

Just replace the ZIP code in the URL with your own.

I lucked out and a location near my office was showing 4 units in stock so I called to verify and then picked one up on my way home.

  6. Re:Please... on RIAA Accused of Extortion & Conspiracy · · Score: 2, Interesting

That seems like a problem with "Law" in general. When you adhere to the letter of the law instead of the spirit, there will always be a way for offenders to use loopholes to circumvent the law, and also for authorities to stretch the meaning of the words in order to abuse the law.

I guess the problem is that a system that adheres to the spirit of the law instead of the letter would be too subjective to be fair, but as we've clearly seen, there is often a lack of "fairness" in the way the law works now anyway.

  7. Re:Saturn Games on Wii to Get New Hardware - Possibly Hard Drive? · · Score: 1

I agree completely, although the game I would most look forward to is Guardian Heroes. Especially since its predecessor Gunstar Heroes is already one of the games available.

One of my favorite things to do in Guardian Heroes was to set up automated battles and see who would win. You could have some classic match ups, such as "Little Boy vs eight Wolves."

    Good times!

  8. Re:YES! on Internet Tax Imminent? · · Score: 1

I'm with you! Don't people realize how much money the federal government is LOSING through missed taxation opportunities?

With a GNP of around 13 trillion and a budget of about 3 trillion, it's like we're STEALING TEN TRILLION DOLLARS. Why should we be allowed to get away with costing the government so much in lost revenue?

That stupidity doesn't magically go away when they turn 18, but the "protection" they're afforded under the law does, so how do you reconcile those two things?

I think the point is since we expect people to be adults at 18, they'd better be pretty damn close to it by 17. Close enough that we shouldn't have to spend so much energy protecting them from themselves.

  10. Re:Dreamcast.....but then 360 on What is the Best Console Controller of All Time? · · Score: 1

The thing I hated about the Dreamcast controller was that the wire connected to the "bottom", which would be the side farthest away from the console while you were playing. That meant while you were holding it, you were losing about 7 or 8 inches of cord length.

Maybe it was just the way my living room was set up, but that 7 or 8 inches meant I had to either slide my couch forward or get up and pull the console out of the entertainment center if I didn't want to lean forward uncomfortably.

Another good sports analogy that also covers the "I'm free to do what I want with my hardware" argument: corked bats in baseball. Sure, you're free to modify and cork your bat all you want, but that doesn't mean Major League Baseball is going to let you use it in real games.
