I am very impressed with Loki. You have done a great job of getting titles out for Linux. Still most of these games were released some time ago(with the exception of Quake III) in the Windows world. Is the future of games for Linux just games that were successful in the Windows world, or are we going to see releases that are nearly simultaneously released as the Windows version on the horizon?

The DMCA is not trying to redefine entertainment on the web. It is trying to reclaim what is legally theirs. Record companies spend millions of dollars signing artists and releasing albums so that they can make a profit -- this is no less noble than any other business. People have found an easy way around this, however, and they're taking advantage of it. The purpose of the DMCA is to defend against outright copyright infringement, which is what we are all doing.
I must take exception to the above point. The DMCA is not about reclaiming what is theirs. Copyright laws already can handle that. It is illegal to distribute MP3's of copyrighted material and I believe that this is wrong. The DMCA makes it illegal for you to make copies of material you have rights to. If I bought a DVD I should be able to copy it to another medium or access it any way I want. I can not distribute it for that would be wrong. I would not be able to exercise my rights of fair use under the DMCA. I know this is redundant but you are just plain wrong on your point. Molog
Let's say I write a virus that will cause damage to hardware or just destroys or corrupts files. Whatever. If I have a little thing that tells the user to accept a license then my malevolent little program can do what ever it wants and the person can't do a thing about it and because of the license if they publicly complain I can go after them! You know what someone should do this in Virginia just to show how stupid this law is.
Yeah, as the other post replying pointed out RMS renamed it. I personally don't like the bashing the LGPL gets. Releasing libraries under it can only help with standards. It is a license for libraries so that people who don't want to use the GPL can at least dynamically link with it. If commercial software had no means to take advantage of any of the libraries then you would not see any companies port proprietary software over to Linux. I know, I know... Screw proprietary software, but there are many apps that are pretty sweet that fall under this category. I know what RMS's points were but that doesn't mean I have to agree.
If I made it seem like AMD had been kicken butt for a long time then I appologize. I was refering to the current Athlon situation. I guess that I was wrong about AMD being able to meet the demand while Intel couldn't. I also have to agree that Tom's Hardware is biased. I don't think I ever said he was not American though. Was that another post? My biggest point is that Intel can not compete with AMD at any speed unless they drop the price of their chips. They can not do this unless they will take lower margins. And for the sake of being redundant to other posts, the speed is cool but means nothing if the bus, RAM and other periferals can't keep up. Molog
If I could get a comment in here. Intel has been trying to leapfrog AMD in speed, but they have not been able to mass produce them. When the AMD 850 came out, I could buy one. I wasn't able to buy the Intel 800 for quite a while. Pricewatch has just barely started to list them. If AMD comes out with these new chips I believe it is because they are ready to produce in volume. Intel has shown that they will just get the chip out the door before they address production problems. If Intel continues to not meet volume demand, you will see AMD take more then their goal of 30% of the processor market.
On a side note, in a Tom's hardware article that mentioned how Intel has higher margins it has to meet, thus they sell their chips for more. In order for Intel to not die they need to not lose their dominance they will have to fix some problems and then take lower margins. This will most likely result in a drop in Intel stock and I don't know if Intel execs are willing to do this. Before Intel sees the light and changes their ways, AMD may have stolen the show. I'm not saying Intel will go out of business, for I think that would probably be impossible, but they will have to change the way they do business. The question is will they change soon enough to stay the market leader. Molog
But if the court orders that you must hand over your keys, then there is no extra work for them. I would hope that you never have to do this. I wonder if this would fall under the 5th.
Making it illegal to export to PSX2 comes as no big surprise to me. Sony has been known for in the past for trying to put region codes on the products and seeing how that can be circumvented this was the next logical step. Personally I'm quite enraged about this. I see no real good reason to screw over consumers. The pirates and those who want to rip Sony off are going to do so no matter what legal restrictions are put on the console. I would draw comparisons to other areas but I think that will be taken care of for me. No use in being redundant.
I was laughing because of how much shit you are full of. I have a friend who works in the FBI. When they did his security check I was one of the people that they called. I emailed my friend the link to this thread to see what he thought about it. While he told me that he could not go back and give me specifics from FBI records, he did tell me this. The FBI does not handle porn, it is handled by US customs dept. and local law enforcement, so you make a statement that goes contrary to FBI policy.
You refer to yourself as a freedom fighter, yet you are not forth coming about who you are and offer no evidence to support your claims and even a person who is at the FBI says you are full of shit. You claim that if you release these documents you are in danger. In another post you say that you faked your wife's death. There are Scooby Doo episodes that are easier to believe.
A freedom fighter is one who spreads the truth and stands up for what is right by getting the information (proof) of what is going on. I don't see you doing anything except making broad claims without supporting evidence and racist comments. Bad troll bad. Molog
My hat goes off to you. You are the best troll I have seen since the slashdot parady yesturday. I want to let you know I had a fun time laughing at your posts after I calmed down.
I'll bite on this one. Who the hell are you? If you have such evidance come out, show your evidance. We only have the word of an AC, and that doesn't count for jack shit. The post is a troll and so are you and I am stupid for even posting to this. But lets just assume for a second you are telling the truth. Lets see what you've got. If am correct, it is nothing.
My comment to this would be as long as the source is available, why doesn't a group start a documentation project for it. Obviously there are companies that could go out and pay the $2500 a year. The only problem is as noted in other posts is that they would not be able to distribute it. A USB Documentation project seems like the only way to go even though it may be a long road.
This is not about IP! It is about trying to patent something that everyone else who has a small amount of knowlege can do! I could set up one-click shopping. Patents are for processes that time was put into to develop. There is so much prior art that can be applied here it isn't funny. Just look at some free scripts for out there for cgi and you will find something that could be modified pretty easily. I believe in protecting IP, but this is something that was almost public knowlege.
I can't stand it when TV programs or Movies display stuff that is just totally impossible. I generally like the X-Files except when the do anything that involves computers because their writers don't know jack squat about what computers can and can not do. I'm sure people have posted et nausea about programs not being able to "jump" into other systems, etc. The thing that sucks is that less informed people might believe that this could actually happen. Although I would pay to see someone get hacked to pieces by a holographic rendered image.
It's usually difficult to trace, or, if you do trace it, it comes from some big spam-factory that, if you complain to, will just add you to all of their lists.
Wouldn't it be a shame if someone posted all the known network addresses of spam-factories and then they recieved a DoS attack? Wouldn't it be even worse if someone broke into their system and messed it all up? What a terrible thing it would be. I just hope no posts such a list on/. That would be terrible. Molog
A good GUI means next to nothing until WINE is more up to the task of emulating windows... Pretty interfaces don't win desktops, plentiful, usable applications do. Witness Windows 3.1: Aweful in terface compared to Macs and OS/2... Incredibly unstable. Lots more apps. Guess who won the battle for the desktop?
I have to disagree. Lets look at a few things. First of all emulating windows never did anyone any good. OS/2 emulated Windows 3.1 functionality (I was able to run pretty much any 3.1 app that I put on OS/2 Warp)I'm not saying that OS/2 died because it ran Windows apps. I'm saying that People aren't going to come to Linux just because they can run Windows apps. They have Windows to do that for them already. Linux needs easy to use apps that will bring people over to Linux. If we have to rely on running Windows apps then we have lost. Linux either stands alone or it doesn't stand.
Hmm, it seems that they are going with the Be look for their stuff or the screen shoot was of Nautilus using a Be like theme. Are they going to try to copy the Be interface? Just wondering.
I think he said to buy the Linux games out there. If companies like Loki are successful then that will inspire companies to go for a Linux port. Just buying the Windows version may defeat our cause becuase then they won't have to bother becuase we are buying anyway. I have bought SBII and RRT from Loki. Rather great stuff.
i dont know about anyone else, but this I_RELEASE_A_NEW ver. of my distro. every few months is getting kinda out of control. i mean, how can anyone stay current? IMHO, if redhat is to keep on it is going to find some way of offering a simple - powerful way of keeping everyone together.
Actually this would be a better way to get things done. I know that Red Hat had a utility that you had to pay for the service of using that would upgrade packages for you when a new one would be released. It would be really nice to see a program that could look at an errata section or updates and take newer packages and just put them on your system. Even have the utility update itself. That would prevent major upgrades and help you stay up to date. Just a thought.
Getting trounced by Windows NT on a networking benchmark encouraged the Linux developers to improve Linux so a single processor wouldn't be able to monopolize the network connection or the access to the file system, he said. "We had our asses kicked on certain benchmarks and we didn't want to have that happen again," he said.
After many people complained about the Mindcraft benches thinking it would undermine Linux, something positive happened. Mindcraft pointed out where Linux needed help and the developers worked on it. The fact that Linus doesn't casually ignore problems like M$ does will insure that Linux will be superior (if it isn't all ready) to the other OS's out there. Next time a benchmark comes out with everyone yelling "FUD!! FUD!!" why don't you just take it with a grain of salt and then fix the problem that was exposed. Sometimes getting a good old-fashioned butt kicking is good for the soul.
Note: I am not saying I support biased benchmarks just that we should encourage an honest comparison to other systems whether we like the results or not.
GTK definitely has some problems. I feel though it is better to use the Motif just from an ease of programming view. I like Qt a little bit more except for one thing. I don't like the QPL. With GTK you can make a commercial piece of software and not have to worry about licensing fees where you do with Qt. I don't believe that people should be charged for development libraries. I love the LGPL for this reason. What will help Linux, I know people disagree with me, are some commercial apps. I think they would rather use the LGPL the QPL. If the clause for paying licensing fees for proprietary software changes then I say Qt all the way.
I also take issue with your assertion that this sort of test is a lower standard. It is measuring other qualities. How well this test does that remains to be seen, but the testers are looking for leadership and the ability to work in groups.
It is very hard to test for leadership when playing with Lego's. Someone might be more assertive and because it is a simple task it would appear that they had leadership ability, when in actuality they could not handle a real leadership position. I think a test of this sort would have to be more complex and stress different areas then just making a Lego space ship or whatever. I'm not saying it is a bad idea totally but this to me just represents one more step down in education. I have seen my grandfathers' algebra books from school. I had it pretty easy... Until I took multivariable vector calculus.
