I'm very impressed with New Lines special edition DVDs so far. Criterion doesn't really do a lot of extras, some of their DVDs don't even have the trailers, but some come with interviews and such, so it's really a crapshoot. Criterion isn't known for the 'fully loaded' aspect of their releases, they mostly concern themselves with quality movies and transfers. Infinifilm has good extras on their DVDs. and Superbit does the hi-def hi-bitrate schtick.

Well, that's fine. The idea is to get all the movies in one nice box so you can keep them together as one unit. I'll be buying the cheap regular editions, and when then inevitable extended edition 3 movie box set comes out, I'll spring for that and replace the 3 boxes I'll have so far.

I actually really dislike when series are not released in a box. I know some of the early TV series releases (like, say, Lexx) came out in individual DVDs, a couple episodes per. It's a real PITA to 'collect em all', and I hope that model is dead for good.

Yeah, we had something like that as well, using Perl on NT actually, with the Win32 modules. Automatically provisioning from a central client db, turning off and fixing permissions for several class Cs worth of virtual hosts spread over 4 machines. Instead of having basically a full time person creating webs and changing passwords al day long, we just scheduled the scripts to do it automagically every couple of hours. There is some pretty good command line support for IIS (even IIS 4 and 5 that we were using), you just gotta dig through some docs and help pages and get used to the metabase and the data model. It's just like any other task. Only losers and Linux bigots would just give up and say it's impossible because it's M$ Windoze.

I imagine with IIS6 and VB scripts this task would be even easier to accomplish, I just didn't feel like learning all that stuff, and wanted to reuse our existing Linux/Apache provisioning infrastructure and code.

I'm not sure how digital cable works, but with IPTV (or TV over DSL/phone) it's sending only 1 channel your way. When you change channels, your set top box sends a signal to let the box downstream know, and it subscribes you to a different stream. So you don't have all the channels barreling down your line at the same time like with regular analog cable, there's noth enough bandwidth for that.

They are meant for quick, straight-forward control of direction, speed and aim.

Desktop LCDs are pretty damn good for gaming, just choose carefully.

Look for some good specs. High contrast. Low low refresh (~25ms). I got a Viewsonic VX800, and I highly recommend it. It's DVI, so none of that pixel mapping nonsense. Pixel drawn in video, pixel sent, pixel displayed on screen. Don't be tempted to save $50; get the real deal.

Make sure it's bright. I had to turn down the brightness to almost 50% initially, but as time goes on the backlight will get less bright.

For modern high-res (1280x1024) truecolour high detail games motion blur does not hurt anything. It's just barely noticable, but if anything it adds a quite pleasant motion blur effect. I was playing the new Unreal single player game, and I got my LCD midway through, and it looked pretty much the same after the switch.
