The venerable 410 and its successors used a 13 pin Atari-specific interface called SIO (Serial Input/Output), just like every other Atari-specific device. It's a little trickier than just feeding in a standard cassette recorder input/output like the other computers. Plus the Atari tapes could feed in sound from the other track of the tape (which made load times mre berable). As an Atari owner, I was glad when I didn't have to load things from tape anymore, and pretty much abandoned tape when i got my disk drive. You might want to find a 1050 or XF551 and use that rather than attempt to retrofit a standard cassette tape to the Atari. Or if you want, find a broken Atari tape drive and study it. I think you'll find there's more going on there than you realize.
Good luck with whatever you decide, and welcome to the world of Atari.
Speaking of which, I haven't played Atari today. Need to get it out and rectify that
Killing reverse engineering doesn't scare me half as much as giving validity to shrink-wrap licenses.

If you're thinking of going, (or even if you're not thinking of going), make an effort to go to CGE. This is the mother-ship of classic gaming shows, and the place to meet the people who made the classic games a reality. You won't be dissapointed.
After the bang-up job you did on Taito's Puzzle Game Franchise (who decided it was a good idea to use some baby blowing bubbles on the cover?) I think a game console would consider itself lucky to not have your titles grace it.
Actually the first Virtua Tennis is a pretty good and fun game. Too bad Acclaim are responsible for the distribution. I'm sure they'll do something to make it completely unplayable.
Any time you see "daunting technical issue" when related to financial software, read "it'll cost us money to fix, and we'd rather implement some proprietary measure where we're guaranteed to make money rather than spend it for the perceived convenience of the customer".
Instead of giving these companies free advertising and publicity, make your own fiction, and make your own characters. Who knows? Someday you might be able to tell companies where they can stick it.
I'm tired of people getting punished for showing loyalty to a particular brand or franchise, so until they wake up and realize they're hurting themselves, I'm not going to spend any energy promoting hostile companies' brand or franchise. Let them do the work.
For your reading pleasure, I bring several paragraphs which would like a word with you:
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Amendment VI
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.
As if we didn't have enough distractions with kids screaming and cell phones going off, now we'll have to deal with idiots tapping codes into their Palm devices with the volume turned up high.
I recommend anything by Herbie Hancock very highly. The Best Of... albm from Blue Note Records especially, for a taste of where to look for his earlier work, and His work with the Head Hunters for some serious funk. Future Shock is a good foray into early synth sounds, and you'll recognize at least one song on that album, no doubt.:)
I'm one of those people. I get a straight 28.8K connection out of my modem. I'm also unfortunate to live in an area not supplied by a cable company. My only options are Satellite (expensive) or ISDN (expensive and difficult). DSL is great, but I'm waiting for the next big thing where I can actually take advantage of it.:)
I dunno... $7 for a CD single with 1-3 songs (one of which might be a remix) vs. $15+ for the full album. Doesn't take Alan Greenspan to determine which is the better value there.
Just remember kids... we created these media monopilies so you don't have to worry about complex choices and hard moral decisions. Just twitch when Clear Channel tells you to. Also remember to support their advertisers, and nobody will get hurt.
Actually the toothpaste works like a micro-fine sandpaper, so it doesn't fill the cracks (unless you have some rather honking scratches in your CDs), it just smooths over the crack and the surrounding area.
I just moved into a community where the only option I have is 28.8kbps dialup (no copper, no cable, and satellite is just too damn expensive). I'd love to have a choice of ways to link up to the internet, but unfortunately I don't. Where I used to live had DSL, Cable, and even Ricochet (remember them?). Oh well.:)
I'll admit learning Blender is a real pain in the you-know-what, but the community is top notch, and the documentation for it really makes it easier to learn. (And it's available in the online store for less than $20). Granted, it doesn't have the plug-in support of Maya, and it's a little more difficult to get results, but once you're there, the pay-off is tremendous. Plus you get Blender's amazing game engine to boot.
Are you looking to pursue a career in 3D artistry, or are you looking for something to just play around with? If you're looking to do this professionally, you might want to use Maya or 3ds Max. If you're just looking to get your feet wet, or don't want to spend yourself silly, then Blender is the way to go.
Leave it to Microsoft and HP to turn the sleek "I want it" of an Apple into something that looks like a cheap rip-off for a kids toy company. If that's the best they can do in the design, they need to get out and get some fresh ideas.
Puyo Pop is a must-have anyway. Go Arle! :)
Good luck with whatever you decide, and welcome to the world of Atari.

That sucker looks HUGE, and yet they still haven't put a numeric keypad on it. What's the deal with that?
My 28.8k connection at home would like to beg to differ with you. DSL? No copper. Cable? Ha ha.
Yes, Virginia, people on dialup DO exist.

Work the words "on the web" in there, and you'll not only have a business model, but a guaranteed patent as well.
That's "Aye", not I.

Replace the batter and the pitcher with robots, and I still won't give a damn about baseball. :)

You are correct. I was one of those members who helped buy the rights for blender to become open source. :)
