Different languages in different paradigms for different uses and programmers. "Success" is not the right word here, most of all languages are successful in their own niche, while some others will not be that qualified but will fit in every project.

On my last job, I used to BE the 'IT Department'. No meter if you outsource your IT Dept to IBM or pay a low budget nerd to do your stuff, you will always have a TI Dept.
I did the same a couple of years ago. Before using fedora, I had slack on my desk for a long time before I got lazy and wanted a 'easier' distro. But fedora made me disappointed, since it wasn't stable at all (so many unreasoned crashes). I stopped using it on fedora 5, and I don't regret of moving to k/ubunto.
