Those with enough self control to not eat badly all the time and to exercise regularly are healthier. Those with enough self control to apply themselves to their schoolwork before playing are more successful. I would never have guessed.
When logging in from a different location (im my case I was on holiday, so I was on a different continent) I had to do this to verify that I was the account owner. I can understand why, but it was extremely frustrating and if I had been traveling without my partner then I would have been unable to use facebook for the duration of the trip. This was the only way possible to regain access to the account.
I also have prosopagnosia and managed to get locked out of my FB account. Luckily for me, my gf knows almost all of my friends and was able to identify the people in the photos for me. I'm not sure what I would have done otherwise as being without a facebook account is social suicide these days.

After listening for a minute or two I started to find it strangely relaxing. I think I'd prefer a different voice though.
Go get a bottle of beer after the screening in one of the bars that most airports have. Nothing stopping you from getting that on the plane, and broken glass is just as good a weapon as a knife.
I have absolutely no problem with people seeing my naked body. Hell, I know there's at least one pic of me floating around the internet somewhere (though I'm not happy about that, a 'friend' decided to share it without consulting me. I don't care who sees me naked, but I would like to know who those people are). I still object to the scanners though.
You want to know why?
It's because I have no say in the matter. Get groped, get virtually stripped, or don't fly. I should be able to decide who gets to see me naked, and I should also be able to decide who gets to touch me in that way. What if I'm wearing a skirt and g-string? You don't get to touch there without at least buying me a drink first! Not flying isn't really an option when I'm in Europe and I have family in the states that I want to see occasionally. Why the 'enhanced' patdown anyway? What's wrong with a regualar police style one? Much less embarassing and invasive, but obviously effective enough.
Okay, so my main objection is that people get the fantastic choice between being virtualy stripped or being groped, but I olso object on the grounds that there is no fucking point. If people are being caught at the airport then it s my opinion that security has failed. Are 'terrorists' really going to be stopped by this? Pre-9/11 levels of security plus the reinforced and locked cockpit door should be perfectly adequate.
Problem is, here (England) a hate crime is only when the race, religion, sexual orientation or disibility of the victim is a motivating factor.
This makes me uncomfortable, because it makes attacking someone outside of a mosque because you have a problem with their religion somehow worse than attacking someone outside a sci-fi convention because you have a problem with geeks.
In my mind this legitimises some kinds of hate. I'd be much happier if the whole hate crime thing was done away with, at least until someone figures out how to word it so that it's fairer and doesn't elevate only certain groups to having special 'victim' status'.
My mum doesn't own a phone, I lend her mine when she is going out and I'm staying home. She is a bit of a technophobe and has trouble even unlocking the keypad with two keystrokes, let alone entering a password!
A phone with this enabled would be near impossible to lend to her. I'm not saying it's a bad idea but it'd need to be something that can easily be disabled.
Very little that isn't urgent happens in UK hospitals at weekends.
When my Dad was in hospital with heart problems, almost all tests were scheduled for weekdays although obviously when he was admitted (on a Saturday, if I remember correctly) tests were being done straight away to determine the problem and begin treatment. As soon as he was stable and waiting for test results would be merely an inconvenience as opposed to a danger to his health, tests were only done on weekdays.
When I last visited the US I noticed that there is very much a 24/7 culture there, but in some places in England you will be lucky to find much more than a pub or corner shop open on a Sunday. If you happen to live near a supermarket then it will be open for very limited hours. I can imagine that to someone from the US, the idea that much less testing (and almost no non-critical testing) is done on weekends is shocking, but most people here don't seem to have any objection. This is not to say if it is right or wrong, merely to explain the difference and give some cultural background.
Can't afford it at the moment. This actually pays much better.
This is the first sit down job I've ever had, I've done a little work as a laborer and also factory work (assembly line stuff). Unfortunately it is minimum wage work but I find it immensely rewarding. At the end of the day I can step back and think 'I did that' and actually have something to see for my actions.
Here I can work for 40 hours a week and earn more than when I was working 55. If it wasn't for the money, I would be doing some kind of physical labor.
For me, the money wins out at the moment. Good question though
And on the other side of the genetic issue. My brother has been prescribed medication to help with weight loss. The change in my brother is amazing, he's 15 and does lots of sport outside of school and goes to the gym three times a week. He has been doing this for years and ahs had a very closely monitored diet. Less than 2000 calories per day and minimal sugar and fat. Within a month of starting this medication there was a visible change, and now, 6 months later, he looks like a whole different person.
I should probably try something similar, I exercise 8 hours a week at the gym and walk a couple of miles per day to and from work. I eat under 1500 cals per day and am obese going by height and weight.
When I go back to university I will work out for at least 16 hours a week and maintain the same diet, and will be a healthy weight.
It certainly is genetic for some people. Not just the thin ones but the fat ones too
It's much cheaper for me to live on ready meals and noodles than it is to buy fruit and make meals from fresh ingredients.
Some days I wish they charged by the calorie.
Even worse is that preparing a proper meal takes longer, which is a problem for poorer people who tend to have less free time, especially if they work two jobs
A farming job may be less varied, but I would argue that it was more rewarding than many of the boring jobs today. It is so easy to spend a lifetime working and not see anything real produced or even get to interact with many people.
System maintenance - if I do my job well then no one knows I exist and I see nothing tangible for my efforts.
A lot of people probably feel the same way. I would love to be able to step back at the end of the day and actually be able to see what I've done
1. Can I watch you have sex with your spouse? Sure, If you can convince her. she's shy.
2. or read your bank statement? I have two. Which one? And not the account details, just the transactions.
3. Can I have your exact height and weight? 5'7". 182lbs
4. and maybe get a glance at your mental health records? Depression. 2006-07
5. Do you mind if I videotape your grandfather's funeral? Yes. You can't do it unless you give me a copy.
6. Got any love letters left over from Junior High I can read? I never got any. sorry
All of the above I am perfectly happy to share. But I think the point is that I am choosing to share it. I would certainly have a problem with people just taking the information without asking for it.
Privacy- the right to choose who knows what.
I have plenty to hide, just not those things and I'm willing to bet that you have an entirely different list of things you don't want to share
Most bumper stickers do say something to the effect of 'i'm better than you'. With or without the 'stinking infidel' part.
Guy on my street has 3 of the damn things (not religious ones). He's 40 something and they are the obnoxious kind that you'd expect of someone in their mid teens. one says 'Yes, I do drive this way just to annoy you'.
Sometimes the urge to key his car is almost too much to bear (apparently others aren't able to keep that urge in check judging by the sides of his car)
Maybe seeing so few of them here is why the hatred of them is so strong
I may be a bit of an ass, but my girlfriend wanted to stick one saying 'kick her in the cooter' (which a friend had given her) on the back of her car because 'it amuses me'. I'm prone to childish bursts of temper and find it highly inappropriate and not at all funny so one blazing row later and it's not going on her car. Okay, there is the context.
Maybe they have it a little wrong, those who see stickers get pissed off and start to drive more aggressively, so the drivers with personalized cars are on the receiving end of some road rage, which could then cause them to respond in kind.
I know I get pissed off and drive like an ass when I see that kind of thing but if I was asked about it without having bumper stickers in my mind I would think I was one of the most conscientious drivers out there
Only our monthlies are copied offsite, the daily and weekly ones are kept in a fireproof safe at the opposite side of an (extremely large) building to the server room. I consider this appropriate for what we do, but not ideal
It's only been recently that any distros have received much publicity outside of computing circles and are losing the reputation of being "only for geeks" or "really hard to install".
The biggest thing standing in the way is support. Who do you call if something goes wrong? That is very offputting for quite a lot of people. Then there is the fact that most PCs are sold with XP or Vista pre-installed, so why change? They feel that it is like throwing money away.
In it's favour, as more people are using ubuntu (the one that most people have heard of) word of mouth is causing others to be interested and think 'if they can do it so can i'. I'm expecting to see an exponential growth curve over the next few years
As a precursor to military action, something like this makes sense only if idiots are running the show.
What if it was a group with limited resources aiming to elevate international tensions? Some group that wants a war, but without directly involving themselves
I tried pinging it and wasn't successful either.

I honestly have no idea. I only understand why most people don't see it as surprising or a problem, but it doesn't actually make sense to me either.
