You might look at the "prosumer" range of cameras when you want to graduate beyond your P&S. I just bought the Fuji FinePix S602Z, and it offers a lot of SLR features: ISO settings, Shutter Speed, Aperture Control, whitebalance, AF Areas, AF/MF. The lens is fixed which is the only reason I don't view it as true SLR, but it is quite a good lens with 6X Digital Zoom.
Working at an ISP, I can definitely say my tech support folks would rather deal with grandma and a stock dreamcast instead of grandma with (netbsd|linux) dreamcast.
I couldn't agree more here. I bought a Sony DTR-935 (since discontinued.. damn, it ruled) and cabled in my Onkyo DVC600 DVD player. Threw a Bose Center Channel (it sounded better at the sound stage, and is a good center all in all), Infinity RS5's at the front, and Infinity bookshelves in the rear. Makes for lots of neighbor frustration.
What about Circuit City employees? I was shopping there buying some of the digital Monster Cables, and there were two variants -- 3' for $30, and 3' for $70. (No doubt plastic fiber vs. quartz fiber) So, I ask the guy what the difference in the price is and he proceeds to tell me the $70 one is better shielded.
Like I shine Mag-Lights at my fiber cables.. *sigh*
If he's out to cancel the bid though because he suspects someones not gonna pay that kind of coin, WHY make the reserve that high? I agree, it's an absurd amount, but hey, someone can bid it.
Anyone notice in the bid history that the bid over reserve was retracted 10 minutes before auction end? And just look at the comments. This guy definitely wasn't legit.
On a [un]related note, it was pointed out by Avi Freedman at ISPCon (and I'm sure elsewhere) that UUNet AS 701 + Sprint AS 1239 = 1940. And they say they aren't fascist. =]
And/. reports that Reuters needs a better backend for their news. That, or they expire really fast and want you to keep up to date. *sigh* Guess I'll have to take the word of the poster here because Reuters doesn't want me to see it.
When discussing audio, square waves are moot anyway. A square wave by it's nature won't travel in an analog world on copper wire, which is likely what's running to your speakers. The only way to faithfully transmit a square wave down the line is to use fiber all the way, and I know your speaker cones don't connect to fiber.
{Free,Net,Open}BSD all support serial port consoles during the boot phase, something that Linux has been lacking. Just plug in a serial cable to one of your favorite/dev/cuaa* ports and there you go.

However, your reference to 1 standard method for connecting isn't true. You've got a number of methods for connecting. PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAP authentication. PPP, SLIP? Most of the time PAP+PPP will make you happy, but not always.
This sounds just like title V of the DMCA. You've got Title's I-IV which actually pertain to copyrights, then in comes title V, talking about Vessel Hull Safety in 200 foot vessels. I'm of the opinion that bills that go through the legislature should all pertain to the same topic. none of this mingled stuff.

The successor to the 6900: the FinePix S602Z. Brand new, it rocks. It has SmartMedia AND Compact Flash slots. You can use them both at the same time.
