Why are we arguing between two different retail computers? Am I the only one who considers computers to be nothing more than components? I'd save the money, and build it myself. I have noticed that for the last couple of years, it is getting a lot harder to build a decent system with commodity parts any cheaper than it would be to purchase one off the shelf. Using sites like tiger and pricewatch, I rarely am able to beat the price. And if you consider the labor to put it together and install whatever OS it gets even more expensive. 10 years ago, I would have agreed with you totally, now, not so much.
Of course, build it yourself boxes alway seem to be better than their off the shelf counterparts. So, there is something to be said of DIY.
Becuase I have bittorrent installed to download Mandrake, I *MUST* have illegal things on my machine?
I really don't understand why people use BitTorrent to download ISO images of Linux in the first place. It's MUCH faster for me to download from a web or FTP site and max out my DSL at 650KB/sec than to use BitTorrent and get a trickle of 20KB-30KB/sec on average. Some people download through BT to ease the load on the distro's servers. Downloading through BT only uses a very small download from the server, then all data is gathered from peers. A direct download of the file, while usually much faster is more expensive for the people hosting the file. I think it is part of the F/OSS philosophy to give as much as you take, or at least give what you are able to give, in this case you are able to give bandwidth. Most places where you can download either the torrent or the iso will politely request that you use the torrent.
Of course, I'm American, so I just take take take. Screw em if they can't take a joke.
Bethesda having the rights to Fallout can only be a good thing. The only complaint I've ever had about them is that they beta test on paying customers. But it seems that everyone is doing that these days. For what it's worth, I never really got into the fallout games. I loved the idea, but the gameplay just didn't do it for me.
Guitars have notes? Power cords? You must be delirious, everybody knows that a guitar can only make 5 distinct tones all by itself. Once you feed that into your computer, then you can make all kinds of crazy "music"./sarcasm
There are a few groups out there that aren't too bad. But most of this crap isn't even worth listening too. It's no wonder I've slowly moved toward talk radio.
My original post was supposed to be a bit tongue in cheek, but I guess it didn't come across that way. But I did notice that my 2 year old laptop doesn't do anything at all with a fresh XP install,(no sound, no wifi, no everything basically, video drivers are there though) But just about any linux distro I put on there works fine out of the box. Except arch, arch linux sucks.
Windows out of the box usually (in my experience anyway) doesn't have network drivers. That would make it a bit more secure than a linux box that did have those drivers.
He talked his way into jobs, and was fired when they discovered he didn't know how to do 80% of what he said he could. I thought I was the first to figure that trick out.
If they come to take my computer, I will shoot. My property is mine, and I have every right to protect it. I think there is even a constitutional amendment about that.
I think a lot of it has to do with going public. Instead of worrying about making a good product and turning a profit, they have to worry about INCREASING profit. It can never be good enough. They have to constantly make more and more money to keep the stockholders happy. Eventually, they have to screw the customer for the sake of the stockholder. One of the many reasons I will only buy stock in a company I do not patronize. As a stockholder I need them to screw their customers as hard, as quickly, and as often as possible. This is not the kind of company I would do business with, but as long as I make 5% or more per year, I'm happy.
So the question here: Does the Gutsy kernel have the HPET patch applied?
Nope, Powertop asks me to install the patch, or set it up in my Bios, so I can only assume it is not setup on my clean install of tribe 5.
well the F/OSS community would probably like it, but who cares what they think.:) Wow... I mean... Wow... I'm going to have to bookmark this as the finest example of flamebait ever.
You're only gripe is that if Microsoft changes its way of business, you won't have anything to gripe about anymore. Kind of like if we solved the global warming thing: hippies will be silent. Pretty good flamebait, I'll admit. Although I didn't intend it as such. It was much more of a "from MS perspective kind of thing. Either way, You're wrong, I have no major gripe with MS, or F/OSS or, anyone for that matter. I use both linux and windows. Both have their strengths, and weaknesses. But the concept of MS scrapping their kernel, and building a Desktop Environment for linux is laughable.
You are completely insane. No way would MS ever do anything like that. It is far too risky. Dual booting is nearly impossible from a windows standpoint. If you want to dual boot, screw you is the work from the MS camp. Build a separate DE, that is even more impractical. Why would they change the way the entire system works, but keep all of the bad stuff about it.
neither of these points would ever cause anything but more problems for everyone involved... well the F/OSS community would probably like it, but who cares what they think.:)
... In other words it doesn't matter how much of the official standards IE supports because IE is a standard in its own right. As a fledgling web developer myself this is the most frustrating thing. I am trying to build a site using only standard tags and very basic instructions. These pages look great on firefox, but some images do not render properly in IE. Seeing that I don't run windows this is even more of a pain, in that I have had to install IE into my linux box, just so I can test these sites out with IE. Now I have to make sure to check them on several versions. IE6, 7 for XP, and 7 for Vista to make sure the pages render properly. I build the site testing with firefox, so that isn't much of a problem.
I love the Wal-Mart Greeters! They usually look like recovering crack addicts, but they ALWAYS give me a Wal-Mart Smiley sticker!:D
You get recovering crack addicts!!! You must be in a much wealthier part of the country.

As always, YMMV

Now I feel old.
Appetite was the first tape I ever bought, I was 7 years old. Calling that classic kind of depresses me.
They don't call us Mass-Holes for nothing.

Merry Christmas TrollGoons.

10 points for whoever can spot the huge flaw in this quote!

Yes
All of this clever banter just gives me the urge to fuck
Don't worry, you'll still have yours parked in front of your mom's basement.
if you've studied your floyd properly you'd know that pigs could fly.

who cares what Pluto thinks, they're not even a real planet.
Back of the bus Pluto, we're not taking your shit anymore.
