Back when most data recovery and disk utility applications didnt work on vista (and many still dont) I found one called r-studio. It managed to recover a whole lot of data of a damaged flaky 5TB Raid 5 array, which is pretty impressive considering it was the only application at the time that could even recognize it as a drive, all the others just call it a damaged volume.
As far as I know its still the only one that can do Raids, at least as far as I can find. It also allows many customization options of searches and donest over simplify things too much. It takes forever but it finds any potential damaged file systems and then lets you use whichever one you like to recover whichever files you like. It can also be used to recover deleted files.
As far as I recall its pretty cheap, at least compared to a few out there and worth a try. But with all recovery and security software, I find the information and their website extremely generalized and vague about what exactly you can do, so I always download the software first to make sure it can do what I want, which 90% of the time it cant, and then if it works I buy it. Its not the most legal practice but if they dont offer demos and wont be specific about what their software does its the only practical solution.

I just got 20,676 in 3Dmark Vantage. I can run crysis max settings 1920x1200 with 4x AA and i get 40fps. before I couldnt even have everything max at 1920 with no AA, same GPUs but a e6700 dual core. so it made a huge difference for me and was worth it.

of course, the govenrment should not attmept to set strict requirements for parents to follow, i was more repsonding to the many comments i see about "children have no right to privacy" (i have seen that a few times) and the idea that parents are immune to public scrutiny. The story i gave was an example of what happens when the government allows too much personal liberty in a situation that the child is being clearly and objectively harmed. Sometimes the governemnt does need to step in and set rules because not everyone is the upstanding logical people we often like to beleive they are when we get all idealistic about personal liberty.

There was an interesting and disturbing story posted on somethingawful about a guy whos parents' and their friends are high ranking officials and many are into something called "unschooling" which basically means homeschooling but instead of learning real things you dance around sing songs and bullshit all day long. its based on the idea that the child will learn when they want to learn. The children only see people in their family group. Among the children this guy met, his brother was like 13 and couldnt speak properly and was completely illiterate, a lot of the kids would only speak to their parents and were so shy they would run when they saw a strnager at 10 years old, and basically were all without education and fucked up for life, or at the very least had some extremely tough times ahead to get back on track if they managed to escape that system. The guy had called social services a number of times but they refused to do anything because it was the parent's right to homeschool their children and deem what is and isn't harmful.
According to your point of view an abused child should never tell anyone they are being abused or complain and if they do you should pay no heed because the abusive parent's judgment is immune to public scrutiny and the ideals of proof.

I think im the only one to point out that with a jailbroken iphone 3g or 1st gen with 2.0 firmware the installer cedega has a quake package to download, its pretty cool. the controls are a little difficult mainly cause it doesnt support more than one touch at the same time atm but its pretty fun and runs at full speed. has a similar one on my old ppc device, they even had quake 2 and 3 for pocketpc, 2 was too slow to play though and 3 was a slideslow but still, thats pretty cool. you could also play multiplayer online over a cellular conneciton too, that rocked.
I think its more sort of the historical value, than the painting's contents being any more valuable. Just like original copies of on the origin of species are worth a lot of money. The reason i use that example is my grandfather who has dementia mentioned today in passing he had one... I couldn't get any more details out of him but i must track it down.
