    "... but it isn't teaching"

Go to hell. You and all your "get off my lawn / kids nowadays" buddies can seriously just go stuff yourselves. With comments like this you devalue everything learned and accomplished by schoolchildren / highschoolers in America. Stop tearing things down just because you don't understand. I have no idea why slashdot moderators allow comments like this. How about you a) do something about the education system since you dislike it so much or b) stop reducing the work of millions of childrens and teachers to "daycare."

But there's plenty of precedent for discriminating based on whatever statistics show. For example, the 16 year old boy can't help that he's 16 or a boy, but he still gets charged more for car insurance than 16 year old girls or 56 year old men. Insurance isn't made to be totally fair.

The important difference here is that google and technorati aren't governments, nor were their actions mandated by the government. I mean, it sucks for you that google doesn't like you, but it isn't the government's fault.

  5. Re:What else do they decide to forward or not? on University of Kansas Will Not Forward RIAA Letters · · Score: 5, Insightful

The letters don't come with the student's name on them. Rather, the RIAA gives the university an ip and time of an alleged offense, and sticks the university with the charge of tracking down who that student is. This can be quite a bit of work, especially when the RIAA waits longer than the university keeps detailed logs. At my university, nearly 30 students were to be notified, but because detailed logs were only kept for 30 days only 7 seven students got letters.

I'm glad you don't care where or how the aggregation happens, but who is going to pay the bills? If you use Amazon to find local books, what does Amazon get out of it? I think the real winner will not be the person who first creates all this aggregation, but the person who does it all in a way that allow profits to be shared.

But this sharing is where problems arise, as everyone thinks they're entitled to a larger share of the cash than the next person...
