Wasn't Microsoft going to release Windows XP under a 'Software as a service' license and requiring monthly (annual?) fees? But I'm sure Microsoft's legal teams will find a way around it, they alway do.
Sorry, but I had to. I had already hit the karma cap and it was just depressing to not see my karma go up anymore when I had posts getting modded up to +5 or +4. So I figured some goatse.cx trolling would knock me down a little.
Still not quite as fast as IE, but with the Enable Quick Launch feature checked, Mozilla is finally becoming competitive
Maybe it's just the type of system, but on my box, the with quick launch enabled, it starts up sooo much faster than IE. I click on the icon in my quick launch tray and the window just displays, about as fast as if I just had it minimized (roughly 1-2 seconds from click to start page displayed). Clicking the the IE icon in the quick launch tray takes a while to load, well, the window displays instantly, but it still takes a few seconds for the start page to display (roughly 5 seconds from click to start page displayed).
Without quick launch enabled it takes about as long to load as IE from click to start page. Granted that with IE you get the window instantly and then wait for the start page, and with mozilla you wait for the window while watching the splash screen, but when the window displays the start page displays immediatly.
I love Pappa Johns online ordering system. I first tried it a year ago, and you couldn't use coupons, but now they list all their coupons/specials and it's very convienent and I've never had a problem with it.
But the main reason I didn't use the online service was not because I couldn't use coupons, it was because I couldn't use 'coupons'. After we figured out they didn't check coupons, we just started making up our own based on what we wanted. So if we wanted two larges with two toppings, we'd call them up and say we had a coupon for two large two topping for say 12.99. We kept dropping the price a dollar (we started with 15.99), but 12.99 was as far as we got, since we got busted at 11.99:). Oh well, I have since moved and got a higher paying job so I don't mind as much using normal coupons.

No fair! I posted the same thing at the same time (With even the same subject, scary), but I'm #28 and you're #26 so I'll probably get moderated as redundant. Oh well, I suppose I can't stay at the karma cap forever.

On AT&T Speech Labs website, they have a little demo where you can enter you're own text and have it play for you using their software (30 word limit). Way Cool!!
They also have recorded demos you can listen to, but I thought the interactive demo was pretty nifty.

how to copy and paste. I knew I had read all of this before. Most of the paragraphs look like they were directly copy and pasted out of that new york times article.
Or maybe they just ran the KatzBot on that NYT article. In which case I'm very disappointed in the KatzBot, I didn't see 'Corporate Republic' mentioned or even post-Columbine, maybe the KatzBot is broken.
--BEGIN SIG BLOCK-- I'd rather be trolling for goatse.cx.
Well of course not. After all, the article did say modern browsers. I'm sure they're probably refering to mozilla or Konqueror since we all know that IE universally sucks and Netscape is dead.
--BEGIN SIG BLOCK-- I'd rather be trolling for goatse.cx.
I never said I wouldn't try to reduce the amount of mail I get. But it doesn't bother me to the point where I would want laws against it or legal action to be taken against anyone who sent me an unsolicited e-mail.
--BEGIN SIG BLOCK-- I'd rather be trolling for goatse.cx.
Actually, I just don't have any friends. Last week I probably got about 10-15 calls a day and I don't recall getting a single call from someone I knew. My girlfriend in Belize who usually calls me every week didn't even call:(.
--BEGIN SIG BLOCK-- I'd rather be trolling for goatse.cx.
I haven't figured out why the online community is so uptight about getting unsolicited e-mails and having companies selling out their e-mail addresses to people. About 80% of the mail I get at my house is unsolicited and 95% of the phone calls I get are salesmen. How did they get my number/address? Most likely the phone company (or credit card company) sold it to them and this is a very common practice. I guess I just don't see what the big deal is when e-mail is so much easier to delete/avoid than unsolicited real mail and phone calls.
After all, e-mail is checked when I want to check it and when I see any subject asking me what the state of my sexual arousal is or offering me a university diploma or just something from 348djkea23@yahoo.com I know I can easily delete it. It's not like a phone call where I don't know who's calling me and I kind of have to answer it right then. I do have caller id, but that's an additional service I have to pay for and most of my friends are out of state so they show up as 'unavailable' along with all the other salesmen.
For unsolicited mail, I have to handle it no matter what, I can't just leave it in my mail box forever. But with e-mail I never really have to see it and I can delete it without having to ever give it a second thought and it's gone gone and not just taking up space in my trash can or recycle bin.
Perhaps someone here can enlighten me.
p.s. I'm sure I have more to say on this topic, but I really need to be getting back to work:).

You're missing the fact that the tags have to be paired. Ensuring the tags are paired isn't a problem, but ensuring the tags are paired optimally is where the difficulty arises.
Consider: <B><I>Hello</I></B>World&l t;B><I>Foo</I></B>
Should be: <B><I>Hello<PL>World</PL>F oo</I></B>
But how do you know if it's more optimal to go with a PL tag vs closing the B and I? You would need the array to go further down and see that you will need the B and I again so you don't bother to close it.
This is the problem I'm running in to now:). I'm writing my entry in Haskell and I have a fairly decent optimizer except for these cases and it's currently a 110 line Haskell program.

After all, ICFP is tommorow, and I can't work on both at the same time. Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait until sunday afternoon to start cranking on this one. Or I could just say screw ICFP since this one has potentially higher rewards:).
when I read the following paragraph from the article:
"Windows has always been designed as an open platform that creates new business opportunities for many third parties, including some of our toughest competitors," Krumholtz wrote.
I suppose that explains their open api, their open standard for COM, their open file formats, etc. And here I guess I had them figure wrong all along.
According to their philosophy, Freenet is about freedom of speech. Anonymity is an aspect of this freedom and so is privacy. The option of anonymity is required for freedom of speech to exist (a more detailed explination is on their page). A person should also have the option to have their speech be kept private so only the indended recepient knows what is being said.
In case it's not clear, I am agreeing with you that Freenet is about anonymity, I'm just saying that privacy is also an important component to Freenet.
As for the differences between Freenet and privacy tools, they do have different end goals, but the same premise of free speech.
