Second for the GT series on PSx. 2 had the best car selection, but 4 is a much better all around game.

  5. Re:Games are NOT a problem on Vista Licenses Limit OS Transfers, Ban VM Use · · Score: 1

Allright, that's one. DirectX (DX) games are hamstrung on Linus for 2 reasons: The DX API is having to be reverse engineered, and Video card manufacturers aren't being particularly helpful for in driver creation. I can understand why both issues are there, but to say "well, this one game runs fine after a few patches" just ignores the bigger problems of replacing a Wintendo with Linux.

This doesn't even include the DX10 stuff that will be Vista only, yet another hurdle to overcome.

I play games with my wife and father. I don't want to have to screw around with "oh, wait a minute, I can't see your machine on the game browser" type of nonsense.

Now if the game producers would write to an open spec like OpenGL or the like, the DX problem goes away. Thing is that, from my understanding, DX development is *much* nicer than OpenGL, as it provides you with hooks for damn near everything: Sound, userland control (gamepads, joysticks, etc), network, and video. From a development cost perspective, this is a no-brainer.

Convince MicroSoft to open the DX API hooks to where the WINE/Cedega devs don't have to reverse engineer it, then a Linux box may be able to become a Wintendo replacement. Something tells me that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Audio/Video connections still fail from time to time, just like notwork connections. When I worked for a big A/V firm out of OKCity, our service techs would tear installers a new hole for not leaving some sort of service loop (usually at least 6", preferably 12") on every connection inside of a rack. We eventually started using deep well Panduit inside of the equipment racks: It leaves the rack looking nice, yet gives you a place to shove a service loop that's out of sight.

  7. Re:Neatness is good, but ... on How a Wiring Rack Should Look · · Score: 2, Insightful

Uhh... "cutting out the patch panel" causes a massive amount of headaches when dealing with building wiring. Moving connections around is *much* easier with a patch panel than hoping that the wire coming out of the wall is long enough to get to the bottom of the rack. This is just one example of why it's nice to have patch panels.

IIRC, it's because of the power output of ethanol is signifigantly lower than diesel and gasoline, therefore to make the same amount of power with ethanol, you have to burn a bunch more of it. Measured in joules, I think the output of burning ethanol is roughly half that of gasoline, so to generate the same power, you have to burn twice as much of it.

As someone who played the game, and rented the DVD when it hit my local HollyWood Video, I must say that the idea for Advent Children was pretty cool. The execution was really poor, tho. It suffered the same problem Spirits Within did: Overly predictable, with insufficent explanation for major story arcs.

One of the things that I've come to appreciate recently is really good villians. The best way to create good villians is to make them believeable. The X-men series is an *excellent* example of this: Dr X and Magneto both have the same goal of integrating mutants with society. Dr X wants to do this in a peaceful format, educating the public, while Magneto wants to force mutations on the rest of humanity.

Magneto has a noble motivation, it's just that his selected method of execution leaves a bit to be desired. *That's* a great villian.

The "we want to destroy the planet because it destroyed Jenova" just didn't float with me. Too cliched. Just like the money motivator, I find the character concept hard to believe.
