There are two types of US plug, grounded and ungrounded. The grounded version has an arrangement similar to the U.K. plug but the grounding pin is round.
It should be noted that even the ungrounded plugs in the U.S. are now polarised. I believe the pins used to be identical or maybe not. Either way, grounded is better as even with a polarised plug, it is sometimes possible to insert it the wrong way around (if you push hard enough).
Where U.K. plugs *really* *totally* suck is at 3am in the morning and you're heading to the bathroom/toilet and you have left the vacuum cleaner out with the cord uncoiled and you stand on the plug. Particulrly nasty if you're running. OTOH, if you step on the U.S. plugs, they bend which is a pain but at least not painful.
So did I when I lived in the U.K. Most peoples bathroom light switch on with a ceiling mounted corded switch (there are exceptions).
FWIW, yes the lower voltage in the U.S. does reduce the risk of electrocution but increases the risk of electrical fire as more current has to be pulled to produce the same power output. That is why for majpor appliances, you guys have to tap 220V.
Oh, and as for individual transformers, sure, if you really want to have junk on poles and visible wires everywhere, fine. But I would prefer to have a single transformer serving multiple houses from a distance away and underground cables. It would certainly make the little town where I live in TN a lot more picturesque.
but if someone in japan ever took a speilberg movie and dubbed it and cut out parts of it and threw in little bits about eggnog in the dubbing becuase they thought it would reach a new audience he would be one pissed off man.
Forget the Japanese. I wish he would leave his works the fuck alone.
Oh, I see what you mean. I thought you meant unit-lengths. In which case, they are both the same. But yes, the sphere does have greater "surface-to-mass"
My father and father-in-law died by drowning. My Uncle died by falling off of a ladder. Both of these things are frequently used as comedy devices. Do I make a fuss about it? No. Do I laugh as loud as the person sitting next to me? No. Do I see the comedy in it? Usually.
Just because something is tragic does not mean it is not funny.
The QL was misdelivered and mismarketed but what killed Sinclair waas Clive Sinclair losing his personal fortune on the Sinclair C5 then selling his name to Amstrad who just used it to market a few more versions of the Spectrum then run it into the ground.
The QL was far aheaad of what PCs were offering at the time (as were the Amiga and Atari ST)
In TN, it's optional. I opted in because back in the UK, I had to use my NI (Like SSN) number so infrequently that I could never remember it. I even actually wrote it on my (paper) driving licence (which doesn't have a photo by the way) so I would at least have it somewhere that I accessed frequently. But here, I have been called to use my SSN so often that within 2-3 months, it has been burned permanently into my brain.
Wake up people, you already have a national ID system, now the government is just looking to consolidate it.

Yeah, just what I want, to have to carry my passport around every time I have to step out the house.
It wouldn't be so bad if the INS actually got off its butt and issued my greencard. It's been over a year now, I had to go down to Memphis and waste a day getting my passport restamped back in November (and then, even though my wife had called up a couple of days before to find out where/what/how, the damn stamping office was closed so we had to make a fuss until we got it stamped).
It's no wonder that terrorists are wandering around on expired visas. I bet half the visas that are expired in this country are because the INS hasn't renewed them when they should. No wonder they aren't chasing expired ones, it would show up their incompetance.

They have been providing correspondance degrees in the UK for many years and have just started offering them in the US (They have actually been available for a while but it appears they are going more mainstream)
They likely will have a bit of a credibility problem at first but they *are* genuine and their degrees *are* real.
I don't do Sony. On the other hand, since I still have some PC and Dreamcast games that have been sitting around for months that I haven't even played yet, not having a PS2 is no big loss for me.

Hmm, the subject of this thread and the contents of your sig promote a disturbing resonance.

You may want to look at the Open University.
