people complain about slashdot rerunning stories. have you looked in the newpaper recently? There are full of repetitions and dupilicates, sometimes much more frequently. How many times have you seen violence in the middle east or northern ireland? How many times can you read about some crappy Martin Lawrence movie? All the slashdot editors are doing is trying to keep up with the newspapers.
didn't Madonna release some sort of electronica music album recently? Actually, if I remember from interviews or something, didn't she claim to invent it?
But in all seriousness, there is a pretty decent article on rollingstone.com about top DJ's and the rave scene and so forth.
On the theme of dieting, did anyone else see the hot dog eating contest this past fourth of july? The skinny Japanese dude schooled the Americans, downing 50.5 hot dogs AND buns in 12 minutes. The American guys outweighed him by at least 200 pounds, but this dude could pound those dogs down. It has something to do with the absence of layers of fat, which allows the stomach to expand more. Something to think about
How can porting MAME to an X-box possibly be either illegal or damaging to Microsoft?
Microsoft's business model is to lose money on the console and make it up on the games. With this mod chip, people could buy the console, and never purchase a game, costing Microsoft millions of dollars. That is how it is damaging to Microsoft.
A decade? I seem to remember seeing a kickass video for Do The Evolution, which I know is newer than a decade. Nice Todd McFarlane animation, and a rockin' song. I've heard that it wasn't an official video, though. Can someone confirm this?
It's an uphill battle, that's for sure, and the DivX team is sure to come up with new features in a year. But does this open codec have a chance to overtake DivX? This could be another mp3/ogg debate, but more choices in video codecs is always better.
Well the fundamental difference is how long you keep the sample. If I listen to the radio, once the song is over, it's over. There is no rewinding it and starting it over. And if you borrow a CD from a friend, they will want it back eventually. Its the timelessness that has the record companies running scared.
Techie fans are more likely to be legally conscious and aware of their rights and the copyright law. I, for one, download (pirate) MP3s, and see if I like the artist/album
Since when is it in your rights to download the mp3s in the first place? True you may end buying the album or deleting them, but you still didn't have the right to download them in the first place. Whole versions of songs shouldn't be used for sampling the artist/song.
I believe there already was a movie called Solaris and this is just a remake. The imdb confirms the existence of a 1972 Russian space epic by the great Tarkovsky.
The browser war is far from over. The Mozilla team should be fighting to make it the best browser possible, regardless of the competition. Just because MS has a stronger market share doesn't automatically signal the end of the war.
Once modern albums contain more than 2 or 3 good songs and 5 trash songs, then my money might start going on new music again
This sounds more like the problem stems from the artist, not from the industry. Instead of demanding lower prices, why not demand higher quality from the artists? I know I would pay 20 bucks, maybe even more for Led Zeppelin 4, or PInk Floyd: The Wall, if I had to buy them again. The RIAA doesn't make the music, they market it. Attack the root of the problem.
Ill take a joystick or gamepad any day for my long marvel vs capcom 2 battles.
On a side not, has anybody found a game where a powerglove-like controller is tops? My ex-roommate once tried to play street fighter ex2 using the playstation glove controller. Long story short, I ended up having to buy him a dozen wings because he actually got a hadoken off in half an hour of using the glove. Then he went back to the standard controller and kicked my ass at the game.
Look around sometime and notice how many people are wearing glasses or contacts. I'd bet that as little as 200 years ago the numbers were less than 10% of what we have now
I don't think it's the fact that we see more people wearing glasses. It's the fact that our ability to detect flaws in eyesight have increased, and the fact that the people who need glasses have easier access to them.

Is because it was not screened for critics in the weeks before it opened. Studios usually do this when they know they have a bomb (quality wise) on their hands, and that all the negative reviews that come out before the movie opens will hurt its box office take. If a studio doesn't prescreen a movie, it is usually a sign to stay away, because the studio that fronted the money doesn't have confidence in the movie.
what about the O.J. Simpson verdict? Does everyone remember where they were when they heard the result? I know I do. Ms. Rogers' computer science class on the second floor of Albany High School.
I have found the cuecat to be a reliable keyboard extender. I like to lean back and keep the keyboard on my lap, but the standard curly cord provides too much pull. The cuecat's cord is nice and long, without any resistance. Saved me from having to buy an extender.
It seems to me that it would be better to teach skills that would help us in the first 10 years of employment.
Do you have any idea what you are going to do for your first 10 years after school? That's quite a long time. Knowing a variety of different subjects is pretty useful if your original career plan doesn't work out.
I put my case out on the street and wrote "wang" on the side of it with a black marker. I saw the garbage man come back with a lead vest and tongs to haul that baby away.
Does anyone remember that show The Critic, with Jon Lovitz? They had a movie parody about Jurrasic Park where the dinosaurs were so smart that they could dislosdge a key from a lock and have it fall on the newspaper. Then when the dinosaur opens the door he has a pipe and speaks with an english accent. Good stuff.

The sound of one hand clapping is being smacked in the face.

Why not have slashdot offer posts numbers 1-10 on each story? You could have them at a permanent +5 without the ability to mod them down.
if I remember correctly, David Duchovny shows up in a pink speedo sometime during the second season of Twin Peaks.

So now you ignore ads from some other company.
I'd like to see Star Wars: The Erotic Adventures of Jar-Jar
