Yea, the AMD IGP is better and sure as hell offers better gaming performance but and this is the big fucking but, the i3-2120 offers far better performance in the area's that count for business/enterprise users. The CPU has enough performance that even with the crappy Intel IGP, they still do what's needed quite well while offering a much lower TDP and even that's becoming important to everyone.

I've been looking into this for a while and working up a build for the new year that's based on an Intel option. Much of the reason is that I'll be using a Xeon with the Intel 4000 IGP (good enough) as the TDP is 45w for the CPU while Passmark results show performance over 8000. The next best AMD offering is a meager 6000 for a 130w TDP and pretty much the same price. I hate to say that Intel is beating AMD in multiple area's and Performance per Watt is just one of them.

Yes it'll handle my desktop needs with the exception of storage but with a NAS at home, why do I need more then enough capacity to handle a limited set of local files anyway? The nice thing is the AMD APU is powerful enough to actually run my primary game (Guildwars), thus it is quite capable of functioning as a desktop replacement for me. Hell I rarely use word anymore since I've got OneNote installed and it offers the functionality that I really need from word.

One feature I use and depend on is the multiple desktop mode as I tend to configure each desktop for a specific purpose. Then they dropped all of that in favor of the god damn M$ way of a single desktop and crammed it down our throats.

Personally, I'm glad someone decided to keep working on fixing the bugs and various problems in 3 (Trinity Project) as it allows me to continue using the10+ multiple desktops that I've configured to support my various workflows. KDE 4 is so bad, I may as well run Win7 and forget about open source.

  8. Re:10% decline in quarterly revenues? on AMD Reportedly Preparing Massive Layoff · · Score: 1

To me, there's another just as important reason as Bang for Buck. It's the Higher TDP of their chips. For a large office, it's becoming very important to get a lower TDP chip that performs well and looking at the numbers, the Celeron G540 offers the most bang for buck at a nice 65 watt instead of the miserable 95 watts of any of the Athlon x2/x4 chips. Sure AMD has some that are in the 65 watt range but compared to even the low end celerons, their performance stinks and all of these reasons have pushed my decision towards an Intel chip for my next build. Even their onboard graphics are decent enough to handle what I actually do on a daily basis while allowing me some light/medium gaming. Of course, there's another reason and it's the quaility of the Open Source Drives, meaning I'm not locked into the MS or Apple camps and that's damn important to me.

There's a few entries and FAQ pages but docs simply don't exist. QT Torrent suffers the same problem. It's more common then not to encounter no docs with any app and that's just plain pitiful. I'll take a FAQ and Wiki over nothing at all but I'd prefer a decent set of general purpose docs. Detail can be easily provided by a FAQ/Wiki online with any examples and the latest information/changes there.
