The impression I got from just the crap summary was that Sharepoint is idiot easy to install without any planning. This means depending on the individual who sets it up, it'll either work wonderfully for you by enforcing proper tagging and indexing rules or it'll become a pit that simply costs money because you can't find anything important with it.
That's not the Pirate Way. What they needed was a Captain, A second Officer, Master at Arms, Helmsman, Navigator and you certainly can't forget cook. That's what it takes to run each and every pirate ship we have, not some new fangled rank like President.
The whole thing is though, you have to bypass the AppLocker Whitelist function in order to succeed. That's the beauty of the thing. MS gets their AppLocker functionality solidly tested so that Windows will finally be locked down. I don't expect this to be a panacea cure for Windows but if I can lock a winbox down and whitelist only allowed apps to run (TPM all over) it means I can finally get rid of much of the damn security crud I'm simply forced to use since the system will be more secure.
No this isn't going to solve all of the malware problems but it should at least disable many of the damn viruses from running as they're not in the whitelist.
Acording to Legend. Vulcans early on, discovered the so called Placeboo effect and decided to investigate it's effectiveness. Turns out that the mind really does affect the body in many disparate ways and yet here on earth, people are only now beginning to realize that the mind affects the body and that the body affects the mind.
The first factor that has to be corrected is the entire Education System in the United States because until the many problems (rote memorization favored over critical thinking) is fixed, we simply wont have the bodies needed to do any basic research. The next factor that has to be solved is the Governments continual slide into Mediocracy and illeteracy that's been desired by the Corps and Politico's for the last 30 years. Sorry folks but that's at least 2 generations (not counting the current and future gens) that have been robbed of our Constitutional Requirement for both an educated and armed populace. Instead they've wanted sheep and now they've got them who don't care about anything except where their next fix is coming from (be it telivision, latest hip product, drugs).
Sorry to say but if the founding fathers were to attempt a revolution with our current tranqed populace today, they'd have failed and been executed as terrorists instead of hailed as hero's. In fact, General Orders to HighGaurd. Time to throw a Nova Bomb into Sol's Sun and clear the cockroaches before they spread to the rest of the galaxy.
Sorry but the Intel Atom is a 32bit only CPU. Also many of the low-end Intel CPU's (Celeron's and such) are also 32bit only. So Yes it's pretty damn easy to still get a 32bit only system.
First off, you need to know what you're placing in the container to determine how big it needs to be. The next is to ensure that you have multiple packs of Silica Desicent to handle any extra moisture (corrosion reduction). In regards to the container itself, it needs to be waterproof and possibly air tight but not gas proof as you'll eventually need to purge all Oxygen from the container using Inert Dry Nitrogen. Then simply don't open it until the designated time (birthday gift is a great idea). Another way of introducing Dry Nitrogen into the case is the use of Liquid Nitrogen and allowing it to evaporate. The advantage is it will drive all of the oxygen out of the case and ensure a very slight overpressure, which helps keep moisture from entering.
OTAP and UPNP from the beginning on any Linksys/Cisco hardware. Personally I see absolutely no reason even in a Home network to enable either of those features for just this possible reason. Sure it's a bit more effort to configure things using a wired connection. The main advantage is I don't have to worry about a badly implemented version of UPNP (lots of apps include it) that can screw MY internet connection up. Hell I don't even want the potential for someone to even use UPNP to configure my router so they can dl Porn or other garbage.
Except the damn idiots they banned were fraudulent accounts. In other words they didn't buy them fair and square nor did CCP get paid for them. So where is the hypocrisy or are you another of those people who think the world owes you a living?
flash wants to grant access to my mic and camera to every damn website in the fucking world? Shouldn't it be denied by default and ask the user before granting that permission? To me this would certainly cut down on some of the flash vulnerabilities because now it's accessing other subsystems such as the MS Speech setup.
Thank god you're not a bookkeeper or CPA because the definition of a fixed cost is anything that does not vary in cost for at least (1) one accounting year. This means that Payroll can be a fixed cost because you already have a budget for that if you're large enough. In the case of AOL/IBM or any other large company like them, payroll is pretty much a fixed cost as they already know how much they're going to spend on it over each year's period. It's also the reason that divisions have layoffs when the company is doing quite well - It's called a budget and yes it's a fixed cost.
Even I, as a small business owner understand what in hell a fixed cost is unlike you
Blasphemy you say!! Well I'm an Office 2007 user so I know what the damn ribbon looks like. From what I can see is that they took the idea behind the ribbon of grouping commonly used features into clusters and unlike MS they went with large enough Icons with decent contrast to be easily visable on a high rez monitor (1280x1024+) like what I use.
So before everyone goes apeshit about this proposed change, take the damn time and actually compare the stinking ribbon with this and you'll see that the change doesn't resemble the ribbon. What I'd like to see is this being offered as an optional customization for those who appreciate its usefulness.
This wasn't a bad idea in general, just badly implemented. What they should have done is offered this incentive to anyone buying a model that meets a 30MPG rating from the EPA as it would have included Used Cars. Doing it this way would result in more guzzlers being pulled from the market and being sent to the scrap yard where they can then be recycled.
Because Microsoft does not manufacture any computers. That HP you just bought that came pre-loaded with Vista, well the manufacturer is HP not Microsfot. Same for that shiny new Eee system you just bought except it's made by Asus and not HP or Microsoft so how do we split the Microsoft hardware division out and force em to sell without an OS installed?
The term Desktop Environment does not mean what you think it does. In the case of Sugar, it was not a DE but an OS (operating system). If they had gone with it as a DE like Gnome and KDE, running on either a stripped down Linux or BSD kernel, I feel that they might have gotten the cost down to that mythical $100.00 dollars.
Several Others have made the valid point that Sugar is an excellent educational environment and if the OLPC had pushed the damn thing world wide as an educational device with the ability to run apps from a USB stick and free development API, then I suspect we'd finally have a truly paradigm breaking system.
Yes I'm serious. I'd love to be able to keep my critical docs and settings with me and have the ability to simply plug into any damn system in the world and run my setup and this is what the OLPC could have done. Instead they got misdirected by MS and bogged down trying to do to many things. Becoming a JOATMON (jack of all trades master of none).
is what it takes to get the maximum lifespan from your archives. This means not buying the cheapest shit you can for your important data. Instead the only one who meets the entire specification is Verbatim media. Sure it's not the cheapest when it comes to media but in the long run, it's certainly cheaper then buying whatever happens to be on sale at best buy and if your data is important, then spend the extra money for quality media, which is exactly what Verbatim is.
In my normal useage, I now only buy Verbatim for anything that I need to ensure is archived for any length of time. Otherwise for a quick and dirty backup, I'm now using an external drive then burned to Verbatim media for longterm storage. For those cheap and rapidly changing ISO images, the cheap disks are sufficient (things like FC/Ubunta/Kubunta and other Linux Distro's) In fact, I've found that buying Verbatim Rewritable media has become the cheapest solution for the many test images I burn due to the quality of the material. I'm still operating on my first batch of 10 Verbatim DVD/RW disks (now pushing 5 yrs) because they've lasted through so many rewrite cycles. I've also used cheap disks and the damn things have gone to crap in just a few months.
Thanks for mentioning all the Windows.dll's that firefox-3.5+ is now loading. Means I wont be installing it at all and will simply have to suffer from IE8 on Win7-RC.
As a Gentoo user, I'm even finding that the only time I use Firefox is to access Google and a couple of other sites that have flash games I play, otherwise it's Konqueror all the way for me since it's faster.
Governor Schwarzenegger is Austrian, not Australian as you can tell simply by listening to his speech. He doesn't say G'Day Mate, nor does he properly pronounce "put nother shrimp on the barbie"
From a business standpoint, this actually makes sense as I'm not a network Guru or even an expert and if I were to get a courtesy visit from the local police informing me that there was an unsecured wireless AP on my network, I'd be thankful because the potential cost damage to me is so high. By Law I'm required to comply with the HIPPA (Health Insurance Privacy Portability Act) as I sometimes deal with health records. Fines for violating this act can range from 1k to 100k per violation and the courts decide what constitutes a violation (usually per day). That can get damn expensive very quickly and wipe you out financially, which is not a risk I'm willing to take. On a related note, as an SMB (small/medium business) I would like to be informed about something like this as it means someone could be accessing my computers (company systems) for what ever purpose they want. How do I ensure that I don't have someone violating the credit card companies new security standards? as they're not yet auditing at this level and such an audit is damn expensive? What about my web host for my online shop. Who's responsible for that Audit? The software vendor, the host or my web master? Who foots the bill for any break in and resulting investigation?
From a private citizens standpoint, as a common Joe Sixpack user, I'd also appreciate the police telling me that my router is insecure and if they provide me with a leaflet showing how to secure it (most common models in use) it would actually improve things. Hell they could even include information about how to set channels so that wireless routers don't all try to share the same channel in close proximity. This means better actual performance instead of why can't I connect to my router from the living room when it's in the back bedroom type questions. Of course as Joe Sixpack, I'd also be upset that the police are using this to cite me for any obvious violations that may occur at my home if they were to do so and as an American, it would definitely get them shot at and reviled for invasion of our privacy because they're now fishing for evidence to investigate us for crimes, such as those Marijuana plants growing in my living room.
Nope: what the real problem is, is they want to know where their stuff is so they can plan on being at the new flat to receive it. Otherwise, they can go to a ball game, museum or simply stay in their hotel until they get called the day after the truck arrived to deliver and their stuff is now in storage at the companies warehouse at $99 per month plus it'll now take them 4 days to get it delivered from the warehouse, meaning they spend another week in the damn hotel.

This is a classic example of Pick any two:
That's not the Pirate Way. What they needed was a Captain, A second Officer, Master at Arms, Helmsman, Navigator and you certainly can't forget cook. That's what it takes to run each and every pirate ship we have, not some new fangled rank like President.

Like the case made from Transparent Aluminum? Yes it does exist.
If you have an old copy of Win95 lying around you can even replace the slower Win98 shell with the non IE based Win95 shell...
Now that's a feature I wasn't aware of that just might make it worth while to get a copy as I've got an old system that is used to run MS-Wors 4.5.

You forgot DC, LA, Japan, France, UK - Hell you left out 2/3rds of the world.

is the position that Microsoft wants.
