  1. Re:An old standard on High Tech Baby Monitoring? · · Score: 1

Make sure your relative isn't a closet drug addict. We trusted my sister (3 kids of her own) to babysit our toddler during the day. My wife got off work early one day & went to pick up our kid. When she got there, the front door was open, and all the kids were sitting in the living room watching cartoons (thankfully). This was a second story apartment, any one of the kids could have taken a tumble down the concrete stairs. Thirty minutes later my sister showed up. Seems she was downstairs getting high with the neighbor (stupid crackhead).

Needless to say, she was no longer our babysitter. Now that we are divorced, we act as babysitters for each other.

I'm currently using Emusic, and loving it. I'm *re-buying* stuff. I mainly use it to replace cassettes (and some LP/7" stuff) that I have no way of playing. I've already "supported" them once when I bought my original copy. Whatever amount they get from my online purchases is simply cream.

New artists, and especially local artists, I agree with you and usually buy the CD from a local shop (I have no idea how they stay in business).

I typically use iTunes for music (as we speak) and WMP for video. If WMP10 is close to iTunes' experience, *and* will sync w/ my Archos MM20, I'll switch.

All 2nd marriages need a failed 1st marriage before they can occur. Not everyone who gets divorced gets remarried. The percentage of divorces goes up for 2nd marriages, I'm sure. It's the first one that's a real bitch. Then you know what to expect. You'd *think* you would also know what to do to prevent divorce...

However you look at it, that's a whole bunch of divorces.

I've thought about this. I think it's because Ad Aware has a "full" version they sell. Ad Aware also restricts it's "lite" version to home use only, companies are supposed to pay for it. Revenue = the need to update, so you get what you paid for. I know I stopped using it for a while, because they were holding back the def. updates for x amount of time on the free version.

S&D has always given me the impression that it's some dude in his basement, being way cool (from my perspective) and giving away his great little utility (for personal AND business use, if I'm not mistaken) and just asking for donations/tips.

I think we all know which of these scenarios is going to result in the most amount of cash, which provides incentive to update.

Plus, I've got this gut feeling that the S&D guy is getting sick & tired of it. (opinion pulled wholly out of my ass, I have no clue.)

I spend waaaay too much time in auto parts stores. I *always* give my correct address. Usually, I only need to give it to them the first time, then I'm in the computer. Why do I do it? #1, since I do spend so much time & money there, I don't mind getting coupons from them. #2, and the biggest reason, they have a record that I bought a radiator with a life-time warranty. When the cheap-ass POS blows a year later, I can take it in, they look it up, see that I bought it from their chain, then give me a replacement. No receipt, not anything else is needed.

WTF can they do nefariously with my address? Send me more junk mail? The only junk mail that makes sense is auto-related, which not only do I not mind, I can actively use it. That's more useful than the produce coupons I get every week. I suppose they could sell my address to someone who's selling sewing supplies. Wouldn't make much financial sense for the buyer, though.
