Didn't Nokia, Ericsson and Siemens (not sure about Siemens) agree 2-3 years ago to standarise on symbians epoc?
If they are still honouring this deal microsoft is going to have tough time getting their Os into phones as Nokia/Ericsson/Siemens probably have more than 80% of cell phone market, here in europe at least...
i installed win me and win2000 recently on my other computer so i could play games and havent experienced single crash on any of those in about 2 months.:(

experiments probably require orbit with high inclination. they are maybe studying atmosphere over arctic or are looking at aurora borealis. anyway launching it from alaska gives them inclination that they need.
problem is that many people are not going to be aware of this function. usually people who know most about subject are the people who have least time. they will come, glance at the comments, see bunch of "funny" comments and decide not to post because "noone is intressted anyway". it doesnt help that i can avoid to see "funny" comments, i can easily ignore them, thats what i do anyway. problem is that many busy people dont have time to go through all the "funny" comments just to find good thread on a subject.
anyway thanks for the suggestions, i hope people will start using it, i know i will:)
it doesnt say similar to the mars, it says between mars and jupiter + this star doesnt have to be as big as sol is. if it is smaller the habitable zone is much closer to the parent star.
i'm probably going to be modded down for this post but i'm going to post it anyway.
why does discussions about any science/space article has to be ruined by people who do nothing else but posts idiotic comments that has nothing to do with the article, and then some even greater idiot mods them up and we end up having like 10 comments who are at 5 Funny ? This usually kills all serious discussion on the subject. There are actually people who prefer to read something smart and not just your idiotic comments.
Goto segfault.org and be funny there!!! stop posting if you dont have anything serious to say!!!
too bad that some people first post and then read article just to get the first post:(
important thing about this discovery of the new gas giants is not the discovery of the gas giant itself but the location of its orbit and preferences it has that possibly imply smaller rocky planets in habitable zone.
actually i wander about this one too. as far as i know most of the mars mountanious regions are located on equator. shouldnt this make landing harder ?
But is a 100,000 year of water basin worth a costly mission to confirm it
you are missing the point. we are not sending manned mission to mars to confirm water. importance of liquid water existing on the surface of the mars is that our future manned missions are going to be much cheaper (we dont have to take water with us) while we are not going to have to be confined to polar regions of the mars.
actually lots has happened in last quarter of 20th century. for every year there is a more money being invested into r&d than the previous one. offcourse now we dont have any high-profile projects (star wars?) so its harder to notice improvements. i believe that most money nowadays goes into it and biotechnology. now that hugo project has been finished we can except huge influx of new medicine.
also it takes for a new technologies between 10-20 years to become widespread thus we mostly see applications that have been developed during 70-ies and 80-ies (minidisc, cd, mobile phones...)
"The Planetary Society was founded in 1980 by Carl Sagan, Bruce Murray, and Louis Friedman to encourage the exploration of our solar system and the search for extraterrestrial life.
The Society is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization, funded by dues and donations from individuals around the world. With more than 100,000 members from over 140 countries, we are the largest space interest group on Earth. Membership is open to all people interested in our mission."
so go to their site and apply for a membership. it costs only 40$ (30$ for students) for us in europe. its even cheaper for north americans. most of the money goes to various space related projects. as a member you will also recieve their magazine planetary report which is really educational and entertaining to read.
whats wrong with russian space technology ? when it comes to different types of rockets, russian once are superiour in every aspect to esas & nasas rockets. they are both cheaper and can carry much more payload into atmosphere. thats the main reason that most companies nowadays use russian built rockets.
i doubt that, suse was first to adopt reiserFS not because they were more cutting edge than mandrake or debian but because they were main sponsors of hans reiser and his company.
> As someone who can't use Linux (we have a WinME box sharing our cable modem connection), I have often wondered how compatable are such things as different file systems? Can a linux box read a PC floppy or HD?
if you mean windows/dos formated floppy/hd by saying PC floppy than the answer is yes, it can read PC floppy or HD.
> How about one for Mac?
not sure about this one , but i think it has support for mac filesystem.
> Can a redhat box access files from a Mandrake one?
yes. only difference between different linux distributions a) location of config files b) some distros are using bsd init (slack ?)instead of sysV init like rest of the the distros
c) packaging system d) amount of apps shipped with the distro.
> Can I get a linux box to access the internet through the Windows network?
i'm no expert in this area but i believe you can do that with the help of samba. try looking at samba.org for more info. there is also free samba book published by oreilly on their site. good luck
i'm using sid for 2-3 months now, which is "unstable" but havent noticed any problems. before that i was running woody and didnt have any problems with it either.
btw why do you want to upgrade to woody? i mean its not like you need cutting edge stuff for your firewall. you just want it to be stable.
did sony release any info when they are going to release it in europe? its cheap choice for apache/php/mysql server. ps2 isnt as noisy as my pc so its much easier to have it on 24/7

So you ask us to review it ?
well eu2 is even better :)
in the begining 2 teams were created at the same time. later "real" time was decided BUT many people continued being in "wrong" team.

there is no language called serbo-croatian. there is serbian that is spoken in serbia and there is croatian that is spoken in croatia.
However, the credibility of that claim was a bit low since it was von Däniken who said it ;)
:)
ah good old Erich von Däniken. I used to like his books and then i grow up....

well excuse is probably...
... their lame desktop, that is some kind of lame imitation of win95 shell that noone ever said anything positive off

From the article: "This is the only star that has a big empty zone in the habitable region around a star, the place where water could exist."
