But tell me why do I always get to hear /after/ such a "swift ordeal" on slashdot. Isn't there somesort of website that announces these kinds of contests way-back --infront-- or whatever?

    Yes, I know that there's nothing new about exploiting another machine that's been hooked up by a company that's in desperate need of some cheap advertising (though some press-agencies seem to disagree), but $till I would be happy to be informed in front, if you know what I mean;

It plagues my mind sometimes to hear these things afterwards, it's a bad trend. I'm not the only one: some people are even writing basic scripts that r00t any vulnareble machine in case there's a contest running on it, they leave subtle hints inside their scripts so the people who had their contest machine r00ted know who to send the pricemoney to, you all know who I'am talking about!

What if you bionic arm would act on your impulsive first toughts after being annoyed or arroused by someone.Instead of pulling your middle finger to another roaduser, the car might try to hit this person.

Sounds like the ultimate bachelors tool to me:

-you can train it to get you a new beer (with the robot arm), doesn't need any explanation.
-you can train it to recognize places and objects: really handy if you drank too much of those beers. "where the hell is my bedroom? - please follow me sir.." or "what's the name of the broad in my bedroom?"
-you can have it send email: "send got sick excuse email #34 to work"
-you can have it play mp3's: it can also recognize people, combine those two and next time a skirt walks into your place it'll start playing your 70s-sweet-luvvin' mp3's (already did that, just clap my hands twice to start it)

basicly it can do a lot of things a girlfriend can do, some people will find this highly argueable and they will come up with things like sex and stuff. Well I suspect you can have handsfree pr0n-session with the thing as well. (Or with the thing and your girlfriend at the same time and even record at the same moment).

Tonight I was coincendently looking for good software for my own surveilance system. I remembered a rather impressive program I had seen demonstrated on cebit a couple of years ago: the software grabbed faces on the fly and it added them to a database then you could select "evil" people and an alarm would go off when they passed a camera. Also you could see stats on the people that were in the database about when they passed it for the last time and stuff like that.
I was delighted to see there was an evaluation version available, too bad it's for nt-clones only, but if you also happen to have a video-capture system, I'd say it's worth try.
The program is called Face It and you can download it here

I've been using matrox dualhead videocards for quite some time now on my studio machines. It's really handy for extending the cubase desktop on various screens, because there's too much information for one screen.
It's very important that the computer runs rocksolid for high end audio-applications, even the chip-set on the motherboard can be the cause of a lot of problems, that won't show up during non-audio applications. Luckely the matrox drivers a really solid, compared to other brands.
I was just ready to order a non-agp dualhead card in order to attach more screens to this machine, but now this card shows up and I will deffinately buy it as soon as it comes out.

I was searching for this item last week, because I wanted it for my new house, but I couldn't really find it, perhaps someone bookmarked it, or knows a simular light?

There's no mod-chip available for the xbox which let's you play "backup" games.
Many people are waiting for this, a plus is that by the time this chip comes out the price might have been dropped.

I'm not sure if such a chip will come, don't know how the copy-protection will work, but my guess is that it uses the same meganisms as the current pc games, which will probably mean that patched isos of games will soon be (or might already) be available on the net.

I don't want to buy an xbox, because I think most Japanese software companies will exclusively make games for the Japanese consoles and face it they make the most original games most of the time, that's what a console is about.

Yup. The article primarely mentions about mobile devices like palmtops and mobile phones.

Well you must have a surface to write on, I don't want to carry a hell-of-a-large mobile phone with me, so I imagine you could also write on a table or whatever, most of the time I don't have a flat surface closeby when I need to put something in my phone, so that's not really handy.

With palmtops, I thought most of them already had this feature.

To replace a regular keyboard/mouse combo sounds quite stupid: I can't imagine writing myself a "4" everytime I want to switch to a rocket-launcher.
