I also had someone drop off a package on my porch. What's funny was that I knew it was coming that day so I was sitting at the computer pressing refresh on the UPS site like every 5 minutes. I go to do a refresh and a new entry is listed "Dr Porch".

    I'm thinking, WTF? Doctor Porch?

So I go outside to look and the $200 item I purchased is sitting on the porch next to the door, where if it would have rained it would have probably been ruined... And believe me, in Florida, it has a good chance of raining anytime even if the sky is 100% clear it could still rain in 30 minutes.

Star Wars Galaxies is an interesting case of a game using randomly generated content.

The reasoning was that many players would come from existing games which had already invested several years accumulating content.

These players would come to SWG, which is brand new, so it was necessary to "fill" it with content. The only way to do this without hiring a few thousand people to create content was to make it randomly generated.

While their work is quite technically impressive (their terrian generator got some kind of award), it will never compare to manually-created content becuase people easily detect patterns -- once they do, they cease to be interesting.

Until we get the technology to use something truely worth of the label of 'artificial intelligence', I don't think we'll see automatically-generated content ever compare with manually-created content.

All it takes is one idiot to ruin it for everyone else.

I swear that nearly every single intersection which has a "No Turn on Red" sign came about as the result of some idiot who didn't pay attention, turned on red, and killed someone.

5-way intersections always have a "No Turn on Red" sign simply because they assume the typical person will be too dumb to handle the situation correctly. What's sad is they're probably right.

We've had them here in Boca Raton, FL for about two years now. Initially they were way too bright, but lately I've either adapted to them or (more likely) they've dimmed a bit since then.

They're still notably brighter than the normal incandescent traffic lights, but at least now they aren't so blindingly bright at night..

I tried darting my eyes around to see if they have a refresh rate, and as best as I can tell, they don't appear to be refreshed. Perhaps a solution to the blinding problem would be to use a circuit which breaks them in by using an on/off refresh cycle which speeds up over a period of months.

Now as for the x10 wall switches that work in place of a traditional wall switch, there is a problem here since flourescent lights circuits don't seem to allow the small trickle of current necessary for the switch to recieve a signal to turn on or off.
