The Chinese government is clearly fixed upon the value of censorship. Censorship is what they're trying to promote, clearly. Cutting naughty or unacceptable words out of daily conversation is their endgame. They're certainly not monitoring billions of texts messages to identify and locate dissidents, increase their understanding of social networks that may work against them, or to increase their control over their citizens. Censorship is totally what they're after.

Why was this modded down? The RIAA nailing someone for $2+ Million for sharing some songs is in no way comparable to the BSA turning up unlicensed software and fining the business $0.1 Million (sourced from the Grandparent's link). Kudos to Ernie for going all Open Source, but there is a fundamental difference that might explain why the BSA isn't the devil incarnate.

I'm also guessing that you know a hell of a lot more about Chrome OS than many of Google's own employees as you've never been entirely stupid when it comes to keeping tabs on your enemies. So either you're letting your own personal ego get in the way of your business sense while underestimating Google or you are asking a rhetorical question to spread uncertainty of what Chrome OS could be.
I'm not so sure that we can call FUD on this statement. I mean, at this point Chrome OS does seem like a fairly vague concept. Linux-based OS designed for cloud computing...maybe...and even then what would that mean? "Who knows what this thing is?" is a reasonable statement. Yeah it's Steve Balmer so you don't expect him to be a big supporter of the OS, but I'd expect that MS, Slashdot, and the internet in general will be spilling a lot of digital ink finding out what this thing is over the next 6-24 months.
Then after a reasonable 2-3 year beta period we'll be able to make an educated statement.
According to my fiancee, who works in the critical care ward of a local animal hospital, the answer is that dogs are more intelligent while cats have more "intelligent" instincts. The dogs in the hospital will actively plot, problem-solve, and scheme to get their way. The cats, however, will more or less react predictably based on their instincts. In non-strenuous situations (because the CC unit is not a happy place), those cat instincts come across as intelligent.
Your comment matches up with my experience with x64 Vista. Which makes me wonder if there's a significant difference in performance between the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Maybe the 64 bit doesn't actually carry the Black Plague after all?
So I can't tell if this analysis of the code indicates that the breathalizers in question are somehow flawed. Perhaps they're coded inelegantly or poorly, but do they actually spit out inaccurate numbers?
Not to excuse our government, but what other option do they really have? Put the multinational corporation's headquarters in jail? Hitting a corporation with a fine is speaking the only language that it cares about.
Would a 10 day waiting period plus a background check before getting a blog REALLY be that bad? Maybe some red tape and bureaucracy to pass through? An education course? Something?

To give an idea of how things work in a different industry, your local grocery store (in the US) is marking up most of their goods from 35-70%. That's after the manufacturer's markup of a similar number. Which is of course after the farmer/copacker's markup of a similar number.
Now yeah, your Walmarts are marking up goods 10-20%, but they're also making 50-100 points on the bureaus in the office aisle.
I'd tell you to take off your tinfoil hat, but there's apparently going to be someone beaming energy down from space and changing weather patterns. Apparently I'll be joining you in wearing one, how did you fold yours so nicely?
