This is very true. I have a bluetooth mouse with the original battery that came with it inside, and it's still working after 2 years of use.
Device with low bandwidth and little mobility requirements are very good with bluetooth right now.
Even the windows firewall can get advanced rules, as in, more in-depth than "allow this application to do anything". It's just not the first dialog displayed when you open the settings in the control panel.
Knowing that the french government use openoffice as their firewall, I don't think they are even connected to the real world.

Well, I'm not sure if I should respond to this post or the parent post, but modern graphic card doesn't have VGA port : like this (and it's already two generation behind what's current).
And yet my display is connected through a VGA adapter.
So, in order to get the shiny look of this new iphone, they introduced a serious flaw, that can be removed by putting the damn thing in protective case, that will totally mess the shiny part ?
Somehow I think this can't be right, one way or the other.
That's funny, both those articles linked to Steam on Mac, not Linux. Also, Steam on Mac has a performance hit because it converts all the D3D calls into OGL calls, rather than having been rewritten to OpenGL. Nothing to do with the BIOS/EFI.
I think the Source engine IS rewritten to OpenGL, complete with all shaders in GLSL and all... It it was only a port using wine-like things, it would not be so interesting.
Yeah, they could. But then they'd be doing the same thing that browser vendors have been doing for the object element since the 1990s. Then what would be the point of the new HTML 5 video element?
It would mean a standardized way to embed video (duh). Using the object element merely say "I want to play this file". It can be handled in various ways; having the video tag would mean a common, uniform interface which would detach the video playback from the browser but still have a single interface from browser point of view.
This would lead to some things, like, having a way to control the video through javascript without a handful of different function just to say "play", for example.
As far as I can tell, dm-crypt doesn't make my laptop unusably slow. I didn't run performance test on it, but in a day to day usage I can't notice a difference in performance since I've set full disk encryption with it.
There is inconsistency, but in chrome you just have to check a box to make the bookmarks always appear in windows and linux, so I guess the original complaint is somewhat invalid.
There is another issue; blocking cellphones also ban emergency calls.
Granted, in a theater there might be other way to call for help, but locking out security for some peace while looking at a movie doesn't sound good to me.
Wouldn't it have been possible for Google to contact the gmail user
How? The bank already e-mailed the user. The only extra things Google has is a potentially fake first/last name, IP addresses used to access the mailbox, and the mailbox itself which could be invaded for clues.
Google could have sent a mail that would've gone through the spam filter, with more chance of being seen than a "from bank" mail talking about "private account information" in attachment.
While I mostly agree with your post, there is something about Steam I'd like to point out : you can disable the autoupdate feature; until now I didn't see why they would put this option, but it seem to fit the case you're describing; get everyone to the same version, and disable autoupdate to avoid bad surprise.
It worked because peoples felt "better".
Most recent action from the French government work on this system:
1 - show how bad things are, with heavy support from every media
2 - use those media to advertise about a miraculous answer
3 - pass a law, using whatever it takes, even with no one to vote, even when it's against european laws, even when it's against the French constitution
This works pretty well for most peoples, because they see things getting better, and those who know how worst things are getting have no recourse.
For Hadopi, a lot of geeks/nerds as well as peoples behind internet providers know that it's plain wrong, but they have no word in it.
It also happen on other recent laws (about school) where peoples in universities are all against new laws, but "peoples" in general only see an improvement.
I'm no MS guy (anymore) but you don't become a monopoly in the market with a horrible product.
Yes, you can become a monopoly with a horrible product if you're (almost) alone on a market, and once it's done, you can keep going for a while without doing much until everything start collapsing.

Uh, it does; an update in webkit from some time ago allowed this in chrome too.

the engine could handle more funny stuff, like moving sectors, titled floor, and stuff I don't remember since it was so long ago.

I wonder how this "sounds to me like..." stuff works when lawyers get in the way...
Since IANAL either, I'm not sure about anything about this, so for some time h264 will remain off limits, at least until it's really made clear.
This might be an explanation : http://geekandpoke.typepad.com/geekandpoke/2010/08/simply-explained-dead-code.html

Thank you, I'm now getting the "think different" part.
It probably is, but for instance I can't use WOL because it requires a packet that can't propagate through a router.
There is the possibility of having a smart router that allow WOL packets; some of them have a "act as a WOL proxy" option built-in, for examples.

Extinguish hell ? If that's so, they're doing a good job by releasing something under the GPL :)

Well, I tried to install Flash 64bits on a shiny new windows system, and guess what, it doesn't exist yet. On linux, on the other side...

You're lucky; some people also like to play with their DS
What's the point of wireless connections like that if you can walk through them without bursting into flames?
I find it better this way

Also, one of those have a linux client: http://nwn.bioware.com/downloads/linuxclient.html
