  1. Re:Nobody Upgrade During a Depression on Ballmer Sets Loose Windows 7 Public Beta At CES · · Score: 2, Informative

Economic issue aside, MS has said it will run on computers that can run Vista, meaning no upgrade in hardware is necessary. Cost of entry to Windows 7 is therefore a lot smaller than from XP to Vista. Also remember there was a long period of time (~5 years) between XP and Vista so a hardware upgrade requirement made more sense than with Vista to Win7.

replace Vista with Windows XP and replace Windows 7 with Vista and your post is just as valid. These are the same complaints that people made with Vista.

I have always thought the use of the word green is overloaded and meaningless. What does green mean? Does it mean sustainable? Does it mean it is biodegradable? There is no standard for what these words mean and there isn't federal regulation on a standard that the companies must meet. The only way I think to cut down on energy and resource consumption is to consume less. See story of stuff and Wall-e for examples on our materialistic society. Unfortunately, the kind of self-restraint required to be thrifty and frugal is too much to ask for most.

I like the Canadian system. Go to school for free, for as long as you want. Find something you really like to do instead of being hurried out the door asap. After graduation, don't want to work? Fine, go to grad school, again, pretty much all paid for except very little cost. Yes, you still have to do well and excel to get into grad schools but you being there has much more to do with your desire to be there, rather than your ability to secure a fellowship.
