  1. Weather, TOC, etc.. on Solar Cell Achieves 40% Efficiency · · Score: 2, Interesting

I pretty much just picked a comment here at semi-random to talk about.

Keep in mind a few things when people are talking about 'solar paneling a roof'..

    - Here where I live, we have a ton of pine trees.. they dump a ton of pine needles on my roof. I'd say at peak, almost .25-.3 of my roof can be obscured. That == instant cut of service.. obviouslly, i'd have to clean my roof more often.. are solar cells safe to walk on and do they stand up to abrasive brooms without degrading the surface quality?
Obviously the same would apply to Snow until it melts off (which takes how many hours during the day, of which you're getting far from peak efficiency from your panels with?
When it hits the rainy season, you have similar issues since your typical week is overcast?

    - Reflecting the suns heat is desirable in the warm months, but not in the cold months. Currently I count on the sun during the day to help heat my house in the winter. If I panel my house with the same goal of attempting to collect/reflect all that sunlight during the summar to save/run my AC, I also have to run my heater more often because my house doesn't warm up?

    - what the TOC on solar panels anyhow? I fully realize that the cost of replacement will go down as demand and technology increase.
I can get 10+ years from my current roof.. how often do solar panels need replacing? keep in mind they will be getting hit by (branchs | snow | heavy rain | leaves/pine needles | occasional base balls | people walking on them to clean them | cleaning chemicals | other forms of harsh weather such as hail and/or debris in hurricanes, etc..). Someone throw me some real-world numbers here?

I'm not trying to be a neigh-sayer, just trying to keep people aware of the every-day issues associated with such things.. i'm far from an expert on solar paneling, but these are some things that 'average joe' will want to know. And lets face it.. if you want it to get wide-spread adaptation, you gotta get the 'average-joe' vote.

  2. Re:what happened to PopTop on PopCap Goes International · · Score: 1

PopTop is probably busy with Shattered Union.. .. besides.. I much favored Tropico then RRT2.. RRT3 is pretty nifty, but the only thing interesting about Tropico 2 was the pirate theme.. the actual gameplay was kinda blah (it was developed by a different company....)

TBH, I don't play enough of the micro-games or whatever they are to be called.. (ok.. i do end up on Newgrounds on occasion.. but that's about it.. ).. when I first read this title, I thought it was about PopTop.. :(

Yeah, I was a little saddened to see only big name FPSes in there.. mostly add-ons and sequels.. Tripwire Interactive is a smaller company, but they are putting out a solid product, with solid distribution.

I do encourage anyone interested in the genre (WW2) to check it out.

(of course I got to disclaim here that I am on the staff for Red Orchestra)

Well if you choose Java, then you can use free Eclipse IDE which is excellent. Otherwise if you choose c#, the ony decent ide is visual studio which will cost you a fortune.
Oh.. the wonderful thing about something like Eclipse (an expandable IDE), is that there plenty of plug-ins for all sorts of non-java languages:
I've used the PHP plugin a bit, but can't say I've used a C# plugin much.

One place I used recently has been Magnatune.com.. they are teh good..
(price per album $3 -> ?? (you decided).. .5 to the artist, .5 to Magnatune)..

thier downside if they don't have the huge selection you'd expect of alot of places.. but IMO if you check out thier licensing scheme and the formats you can D/L (VBR MP3, VorbisOgg, FLAC, raw WAV, and AAC) it outweighs that.

  7. We already do that :p on Online Takeout Delivery is Back · · Score: 1

There's a local company here in our town (gatorfood.com) that does exactly that..

We probably have a better market for this since we are uni. town and the food service space is vast and popular.

AFAIK: The problem is the delivery drivers get the screws since they are technically contractors, and work for only tips.. which alot of customers do not do becuase the delivery company slaps on a $3.95 delivery fee.. :/

(I tell every person I meet that complains about not making money working for them to just go work for Dominos or PizzaHut as they will be garenteed money, and thier taxes will probably be easier too..)

  12. Eagle Games and some others on Fun Tabletop Games? · · Score: 1

I recommend Eagle Games.. they published some pretty nifty board games, most of which are quite excellent.
Age of Imperialism (converted to a PC game) is pretty solid.

"History of the World" is another good, and mildly innovative (in play style) game. I beleive it's put out by Avalon Games..

Aside from that, honestly check out some of the german companies..

"Zombies!!!" is a fun tile-based games based on zombie survival.

ok.. so I have some old (486->300k6 cpus, ISA expansion cards, 32-pin SIMMs, old minitower cases, etc..), but not enough to assemble into full computers..
The problem also arises that the 'common' charity cases (Schools, etc..) are pretty decent on the tech scale, and wouldn't want my old hardware.. this is a unversity town, so most the population already has more-modern computers..

It's all in various states of operational ability, and I don't want to try and find working PCs of that era to test out 1x SB16 or something..

Someone please let me know what I cna do with all this old junk?.. and NO, I don't want to make them *nix systems (I have older PCs doing that now already)
It's been an annoyance and I'm starting to get sick of it and looking into the garbage as a more viable option every day.

    Suggestions?

The author's views are correct, and IMO, the point he is trying to make is that there are to many dam n people out there that THINK they know the answer.. when they really don't.. and now they can make THIER answer the correct one..

While anime like Legend of the Overfiend is 'intersting' it does hold the same level of appeal to me that Bebop does. Its like the difference between watching the Drew Carey show, and a Sharon Stone movie.
