Sadly; One could argue that you are learning a response to dealing with anger is to indulge in a pseudo-violent act. This may be case of a learned response..
Dont get me wrong, I think people are responsible for thier own actions and a game, let alone a computer game, cant make you perform an act. I was just playing devil's advocate a second there..
Yeap.. as a java developer I can tell you I know practically nothing about SWING / AWT, except that I like it that way..
Java is improving as a pretty front end over the years, but it is not it's strongest point.
I stick to the fun stuff anyhow.. I cant draw but I love parsing xml, talking to sockets and databases, and all the other back-end stuff that makes the pretty stuff work..
Justice League is also really well done, however there werent enough episodes made for an initial run
JL is good stuff... but why oh why does wonder-woman fly? Thats not the wonder woman I grew up with..

That depends on if thier Raw formatted data retains HTML Markup like color definations.. then you also have to worry not only color'ed font tags, but opening up.css data that may not be stored in RAW data..
To get an Accurate color would be pretty hard.. you could just throw out all the.css stylesheets, but since it's the recommended standard these days, you could skew the results away from the brighter colors most cutting-edge site designs use..
We adopted here where I work (a utility) becuase of 2 major reasons:
1. It's Cheap (compared to other IDEs we looked at like HotJava (CA's EJB IDE), WebStudio, and even Allaire's offering (which is just Homesite with a plugin). You can get a JCreator site license for what some other IDE's want per individual license.
2. It does do that nifty code completetion. Most of the time I dont use it, but sometimes when I am referencing a home-grown class and not 100% sure of the case, etc of the method/object/etc, it's great..
I'll admit that it took me a while to even getting me to use an IDE (color syntax highlighting was all I really needed), but some of the other features of JCreator just are pretty cool..
According the the wired article.. and I Copy and Paste:
"The only committee member who voted against the final bill was Rep. Ron Paul, a libertarian-leaning Republican from Texas. "
Wheres the discrepency?
To bad Every member of the Legistlative has a unfortunate habit of attaching riders to 'easy-pass-bills'...
Unfortunately, because this topic is so popular, the chances of it getting Vetoed by "Doctor President Mr George Bush, President of the America" is nhil...
As far as gambling...
Personally I dont like online gambling, but I also dont think it should be illegal..
Anyway.. now is a good time to drop your party allegences and side on the side of Common Sense..
Dont be a Democrate or a Republican.. be a citizen with concern of the panic legislation that is forming.
Welp.. you could say that HyperTextMarkup (HTM) is the file, written in HyperTextMarkupLanguage (HTML).
But I have to say that the most common reason was for 8.3 filename compatiability.. I personally used version of 3rd party programs like HotDog Pro that were compatibily with Win3.1 (still common back then)..
I have to say Wasteland was on of my Favorites of the earily 90's.. (C=64 and IBM PC.. dont know about Apples/Macs)
It was psuedo-unoffically reborne in alot of peoples hearts as the very good 'FallOut' series.. (although I dont think any offical linkage between the 2 exist).
Who can forget Karatica (sp!).. old C=64/Apple ][ side-scroller where all you did was Kick and Punch.. very nice..
Actually I know some people that work at a similiarly named ISP.. unfortunately they get alot of Luser mail destine for 'Gator'.. so sad..
On a side note, I wonder if the Gator people paided IP rights to the University of Florida for likenesses (Orange and Blue with an Alligator)... the Gator page used to have a more predominate alligator there.. ah well..
Also, there's the fact that over time each player tends to create multiple characters, each of which has a separate bank account and inventory, which dilutes the supply of platinum and items.
Dilution would only be true if there were a near-finate amount of Platium to be had.
Since each character has the ability to tap the unlimited amount of money, the dilution factor is near-rock-bottom.
I'd say that a better source for an article on the VR-Economy would be Ultima Online, since you have people that actually make their living supply goods.. although the same Dilution factors apply, there is a more V-Consumer to V-Consumer interaction.
Actually, I really like how Visisimo lays out the results.. Especially for when you use it to Search Ebay.. groups them nice and neat..
However, the base searching tech is the same as DogPile.. (ie: just grabs it from other engines).
It's bad enough when cops with no understanding of physics are given radar guns and the ability to hand out tickets. (Did you know that radar waves won't reflect from a stationary metal surface, only a moving one? That was the testimony of a Baltimore County cop who ticketed me last year.) Now cops with no understanding of software failability are being given buggy software and the ability to drag people off at gunpoint based on its output. The fun's just getting started.
So I suppose you know exactly how every peice of electronics, software, electron-gates, atomic-interactions work?
Just becuase I dont fully understand how a 386 computer processor switchs a 1 to a 0, doesnt mean I dont know how to use a computer, etc..
Now, your particular example is valid, however, the base reasoning is in err (IMO).
Well:
1) Pirating TV signal that is subscription based is considered a form of Theft. [I'd say because in most cases you have to specifically do something to pirate it.. if it was just an Air-feed (ie: reg TV), then you can't steal it.
2) Services like DirectTV are not, by any means, something you HAVE to have. It's a luxury.
If you dont think they have good service/programming, dont buy thier service, and try to convience others (rationally) to not buy their service.
This is a concept called the Dollar-Vote.
There is this amazing other concept that if no one buys a product, that product will either improve, or die.
As stated in this parent, there is no such thing as 100% secure.
Security is a matter of conveince. How inconvient do you want to make it for a cracker?
IE: It is highly inconvient to spend 4 CPU Weeks to crack somebodies Hotmail password (little reward (generally)), but it is worth 6 CPU months to crack DVDs, (Greater Reward)
If you make your system highly inconvient to crack, then you elimate 99% of most crackers. The 1% left will be those the have grudges with your system/company or want to 'crack the uncrackable'.
Most low-profiles companies will generally not have enough of a reward for the remaining 1%.
Obsecurity in just another method of introducing inconvience.
"That is essentially no longer possible in the Western world, today. Employers no longer pay in cash, so you have to have an account with some sort of financial institution,...."
I'm sorry but that is crap. You can receive you paycheck as a check, and cash it at the bank your employeer uses. Then you have cash, and are much much much less trackable.
If you want to be private, you can.
Why dont people realize there is such a thing as 'your dollar vote'.
Not every finance instution will be doing this just becuase they can.
What you need to do it find the ones that are not, drop any you have that do, and use your dollar vote.
That is one of the fundemental concepts in a Free-Enterprise society.
To many people put up with crap from businesses, and are unwilling to change where they bank, shop, what they buy, etc..
And as for not having a choice with the whole Ma-Bell thing.. I know several people that have dicontinued standard telephone service in favor of only using a Cell Phone. Also, there are many many ILEC's around that are not Ma'Bell puppets.
Oh, and if you every heard/visitied Clark Howard ( http://clarkhoward.com ) he points out alot of this type of thing.
"Downloading the program from the University of California at Berkeley, called SETIhome (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), was both a violation of written TVA policy and computer security, and future violations could result in dismissal, managers told the guilty employees.
"
This makes it improper the the employees to do this.
"
Richard Chambers, TVA's inspector general, said: "If you're allowing others to tap into your computer, you have got some additional risk there."
"
This is a fact. It's true. Oh yes, It's true.
However:
It is correct that SETI@Home poses pretty much to real risk, but since it was a violation of exsisting policy, and if they are that anal about security (a good thing really).
For those that work in large office enviroments, you know how much junk users stick on 'thier' computers (most of which is unstable 'neat-ware'.
And that is part of the issue. Many users do feel that they practically 'own' the computer, when in fact it is the companies, and they can govern how it is to be used.
The problem here is that there is a country that cannot face history.
Similar problems (especially with Nazi's) occur in German and many other countries.
Not to say that America doesnt have it's share of problems.
Sounds like Verizon just doesnt want to install a DSLAM on the other end of the Fibre (that is, your end). Admittedly they are not cheap, so you might end up in one of the all-to-common Pockets (packets?) of people square in the middle of town that can't get DSL. [Of which I am one in my town].
Actually Betamax is still kinda popular in some regions..
And it is(!) a Superior format to VHS for image quality.. it's just the company didnt have as much marketing smarts as the VHS ppl did at the time.
Sometimes the Best does not always Win. (How long have Laserdisc's been out? they still never really seemed to catch on... so why is it DVD's ARE? weird..)
Mainsteam? Probably wont happen anytime soon..
I hate to break it to you but most people do not care if IIS (whatever that is, they say) has a Buffer-Overflow (whatever a buffer is, and however you overflow it, they say) error that gives them Root (Foot & Mouth? Is that like Ringworm? I hope I dont contract it.).
On a side note, TechLive (as in TechTV (or formerly know as ZDTV) did in fact mention this several times during thier Tuesday Broadcast.
If you watch mainstream media, all you will get is Mainsteam news. Use your Dollar-Vote, and dont support things that you dont want to support.
Dont get real TV? Bug you Cable/Sat company.
Long:
If I, as a student, call another Gay Student 'Gay', I am not breaking any rules.
If I however, cause physcial harm to that student, then I AM breaking the rules (and should be punished accordingly).
What this particalar person did in the ASK/. article was Incorrect. He could have done worse, but what he SHOULD have done is
1) Not pretended he has a weapon. (this is WAY bad.. if you rob a bank Pretending you have a gun, you can still get Armed-Robbery. How many stories do we hear about Cops shooting people becuase they had authentic-appearing firearms?)
2) Not present pretense that had it been a weapon, they would be dead.
A better solution would have been to, after the first bully mentioned 'Gun' (the 8th dirty word apperently), call that person on it. Bring it up to the school figure heads that the 'bully' was talking about having a 'Gun'.
(Essentially reverse the situtation).
Some of the better things my folks taught me was that Bully will get bored with you if you just dont react to them.
Also, the kid in question, if he can prove it, file Theft charges against this band of ruffians for loss of property (Diskettes, and the 'Breaking' into his backpack).
This wouldnt happen if we had CAPITOL punishment in schools.

With only 1 box, you only have to worry about maintaining... 1 box.
Also maybe the person only needs a second 'computer' occasionally.. or some other strange condition.
(maybe they just want to know for the heck of it)
Although you are correct that it may be more economical to have just multiple boxes.
Check out Empire Earth..
Kinda like an AOE (IE: 'RTS') game, but you go from Prehistoric age, to 'the Nano Age'..
