I Wanna Watch Cartoons!
aztektum writes "Since Saturday's tend to be slow days and it is Saturday morning I thought I'd send along Cartoon Network news. Ain't It Cool has a breakdown of Cartoon Networks 2002 itinerary." Several of the
shows have been mentioned here before (Pilot Candidate and Gundam 0083 are
both enjoyable so far. As is YuYu). Mentions the arrival of new DBZ in september.
Also lots of non anime bits including Justice League (Many new episodes!).
Also new Harvey Birdman, Brak, and Sealab 2021 although Space Ghost seems absent from the roster.
Anyway, there are a lot of other shows mentioned too, but those are the shows
that I have commanded tivo to snag ;)
would be a much better replacement for Nightline than Dave Letterman.
1) he doesn't age
2) entirely removed from the depressing world of news and politics that Letterman insists on finding funny
3) Is actually funny
Goat sex free since 2001
I can't wait for SeaLab 2021 though. The funnies part of the whole show is during the end credits. I really enjoyed the time travel episode where the alternate Quinn's were forced to fight gladiator style.
Justice League is also really well done, however there werent enough episodes made for an initial run.
Well I can't wait till they start showing the new episodes.
I/O, I/O, its off to disk I go, with a read and a write, and a bit and a byte, I/O, I/O, I/O, I/O
good animation (anime quality), good stories, and characters. only cartoon that's worth watching for those without cable tv.
Here's something to try if you're bored. Cartoon Network is the only channel on my DirecTV lineup (besides the PPV movies) which I can get in Spanish. You go to the menu and change the Audio Language settings.
Not all the shows come in Spanish, but a bunch do. It's a good way to learn. I actually prefer Dexter's voice in Spanish than in English. Johnny Bravo, Scooby Doo, and lots of the old Warner Bros. cartoons work too.
cartoon network was one of the channels I really started to miss when they got encrypted here in europe :-(
time is a funny concept
First of all, they're definitely putting a lot into one channel at once. They're going to be cutting a lot of ratings-grabbers. And with all this stuff, I have a nagging feeling in the back of my head that the show that has fed me my energy for the past year or two will be gone...
SCOOBY-DOO.
I know I sound like an idiot, since it's such a big hit, but it's one of the last old-school programs left on CN. Looney Tunes is the only other big old-school cartoon on there, but it's dwindling in how much airtime it gets. Scooby is too, especially since they gave some Scooby time to WB (which sucks, because they cram so many commercials in).
Scooby-Doo is likely to be the last holdout with Looney Tunes, finally being abolished back to Boomerang. However, very few people get Boomerang. To solve this solution, I still think CN should separate into three different entities and make them all as availible as CN - in fact, they should all be availible as a package for the same price, or just slightly more. Here are my ideas for the separation, found under the last CN story a few days ago...
Maybe I'm paranoid over Scooby's possibly leaving, but if you've noticed all the CN changes over the past year or two, you should be afraid too...

If you haven't followed the Dragonball Z series I suggest you check out a few episodes. The only complaint I have is that Toonami replays episodes out of order and all the episodes are cut. It is better to buy the DVDs. At least they are going to finish the Majin Buu saga.
That show rocks. I don't know why, probably just the combination of crappy 60's cartooning with today's humor. It's worth a watch, given it's only 15 minutes with no commercials.
13 new episodes each of current series AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE, SEALAB 2021 and THE BRAK SHOW
There are three of my favourite shows on TV, I even grabbed some soundbits from Sealab for my Radio Show.
adults who watch cartoons use the information to talk to little boys. I think you can take it from there...
This is what a subscription to slashdot.org will provide us with? Some lazy ass telling us about cartoon lineups?
I only bring this up because I woke up this morning to four hours of fresh anime that had arrived overnight. I have more of it than I have time or inclination to watch.
:)
I can get all the cartoons I want by p2p. In the case of "the Simpsons", I can see a new episode sooner if I turn on the boob tube (well, my tuner card, anyway) but I already see most of these toons (the ones I actually want to watch) subtitled by fans long before cartoon network gets around to rebroadcasting them sans anything raunchy and with lousy voice talent.
It isn't even that much trouble - taken as a total, turning on whatever software and running it overnight is less time than I would spend watching commercials if I watched them on TV. Why would I ever?
Seriously; what value added does Cartoon Network provide?
I think that US anime is a coal-mine-canary for the whole audio-visual-content industry; which is an appreciable slice of the boysenberry pie which is world economic output. That which is a minor annoyance for dedicated geeks to do today will be routine for any consumer no more than ten years hence. So - are video pirates like me (Yar!) going to appreciably sour the audience for Cartoon Network's anime? Or, is it nothing but good fan recruitment for anime generally?
Hard numbers would sure be nice, if some blessed sould has them - searches on google spit back mostly links to slashdot

...here you'll notice that there are no new Space Ghost scripts listed after 1999. I always thought that it was the best one, showing cluelessness at its finest. It's a shame too, but hey, maybe they ran out of ideas. You know how it is.

Adults taking cartoons this seriously is a bit... scary. I'm all for geekish hobbies but really... isn't watching cartoons writen and produced for 10 year olds get a little... boring after about 5 minutes?

If you don't mind the mindless, censored, cut for commercials crap they show on TV networks, fine. However if you want something of a bit higher quality, then I suggest trying anime:
1. Start researching anime on the Internet, find something to your taste, and give it a try. I suggest any Miyazaki flic for starters.
2. After that find a local anime club. Chances are that they have a nice video collection that you can check out for *FREE*. You'll also be introduced to every aspect of anime, and you'll know what to look for now.
3. Now you've probably noticed that fansubbed anime is quite nice in that you get to see material you would probably NEVER EVER SEE IN YOUR NATURAL LIFE. Start buying tapes from distributors.
4. IRC has numerous channels dedicated to anime and "digisubbing." I suggest you check them out.
5. www.streamload.com is a media trading service that has HUGE amounts of bandwidth. People trade anime collections now that are monstrously huge (over 1TB). Search for streamload trade forums on Google.
6. Go to Manga and Anime conventions.
If you get to this point, I doubt you'll ever turn back.
your parent is the first goatscx ascii pr0n that has made me laugh: I can still make it out!!!
Are the only ones I really like. Does any one remember OverCat from Underdog? He was the evil cat that lived in the heavens and would pound his fist saying "I want my milk!". I really like the old cartoons because they had appeal for adults too. There are a lot of things in those old cartoons that would go right over the head of a child or even teenager. The Simpsons are the penultimate example of that. Have fun tooning!
If not, why does it need an itinerary?
This is what they want us to pay for.

Anyone else miss the classic cartoons that just aren't on tv very much anymore. I personally thought Garfield was the coolest show along with the Loony Toons and all those. Now all the cartoons are crazy half anime techno thrillers. Just doesn't appeal to me like Willey Coyote and RoadRunner.
I don't think 54 episodes are enough to finish the majin buu saga.. they left off at episode 221(235j) and episode ?257(271j) Majin buu is still around and pretty powerful.
From what I understand the Buu saga goes all the way to episode 291j of DBZ after which DBGT takes over after the saga is resolved. But I could be horribly mistaken as I've only seen scattered episodes between 221us and 271j.
If anyone knows for certain where the buu saga it would be helpful. I know i'm going to be watching the new episodes when they come out mmmm... I'm watching the episodes the brought out last season for about the 7th time just because there is nothing better on TV that I know of.

Did you just call his mom a "goatscx ascii pr0n"? That's pretty harsh.
is my favorite cartoon
...Serial Experiments Lain. Considering it's another Pioneer title and CN and Pioneer seem to have a symbiotic relationship now, it's a natural. There is only one theoretically objectionable reference in the entire mini-series, and that's a reference to masturbation that can easily be excised and is not germane to the plot.
C'mon, CN...DO IT! Rev up Protocol Seven and link Adult Swim to THE WIRED!!!!
Knowledge is power. Knowledge shared is power multiplied.
See you space cowboy.

It's called HENTAI. At least learn the proper fucking terminology if you're going to troll, you dumb fuck.
Well this looks worse then pokémon. The official web site has some plot synopsis and pictures. I almost went into shock from the glucose level. I suppose I should give it a chance(I nearly turned off YuYu during the opening credits they where so terrible, but found myself liking the show anyway) maybe there is some kind of hilarious subplot to follow, but I somehow doubt it.
On the topic of space ghost and new episodes, I don't think that they have updated there page in a while but may have filmed a new episode(or two). I refer specifically to the episode featuring Tenacious D(yogi bear as satan is perhaps the funniest thing I have ever seen) and the old kentucky shark episode with the directors commentary over it. But these could just be old ones I had not seen before.

I've tried watching the cartoon network a number of times but I have never ever found anything even remotely entertaining. Just a bunch of crap like "Dragon Ball Z" or other "anime" geared toward four year old children. Scooby-Doo, a bunch of stupid "let's say stupid things and scream a whole bunch and we'll have a show!" stuff like Cat and Dog or whatever that is. Cow and Chicken. Maybe that's it. Or CHicken and Cat.. I dunno.
Anyway, I've yet to find anything worth watching on this station and don't plan to ever watch it. I think the last time I turned to that channel was about 9 months ago when I watched 5 minutes of some really stupid cartoon.
To find good cartoons, you have to watch the Action Movie channel late at night when they run good anime movies a few times per week.
Sorry to be a grammar Nazi, but it's 'Saturdays'... You should never put in an apostrophe to make something plural.
What happened to the original "Cartoon Cartoon"?? It was half an hour of short cartoons. They were clever fresh and funny. Oh Well....
Brak,"We've been playing video games all weekend."
Zoraks,"No, I've been playing. You've been getting a red ass beatdown."
God spoke to me
Space Ghost episodes don't circulate for months on the internet before cartoon network airs them.
;)
In any case, 90% of what CN broadcasts are reruns; I'm sure that viewership of reruns is where cartoon network gets most of its ad revenue - even for CN original programming. Space Ghost and Dexter's Lab, although available from Kazaa, haven't yet reached the penetrance of Tenchi Muyo, so I'm not tempted to just watch downloaded versions instead.
Obviously, to the extent that people have a fetishistic preference for television over downloaded viewing, that will provide a boost to TV even should the computer read your mind and fetch whatever you want to watch days before you know you want to see it.
Personally, however, p2p really has damped my interest in CN anime offerings - pretty much completely. For shows that I like but don't feel the need to watch as soon as they're newly broadcast - Space Ghost is a prime example - I'd prefer p2p as well, if they were widely available. I think this is a trend.
re: value added-
CN's editing - I prefer no editing at all - is "value added", if you like it. Services that CN does for society generally by broadcasting anime don't count as value added because they don't enrich the experience at the particular time that I watch the anime. To the extent that my friends might watch the same episode, whereupon we have something to talk about, I suppose that that qualifies as value added. I don't think that it is going to compete with p2p as technology improves, suffice to say.
Legal = value added? I'll just disagree philosophically. Sticking it to the man = value added
The good and new comes from no quarter where it is looked for, and is always something different from what is expected.
Has Genndy's excellent Dexter's Laboratory been cancelled? What, low ratings, or not enough resources to share with PowerPuff and Samurai Jack? It already sucks that they recently changed most of the voice actors and animators (why was that anyway?), sheesh... Also, will there be any new production of Big O from Japan (besides the meager 13 eps in existence)? Bebop's excellent, but from what I hear the end is quite final. Outlaw Star's also had a pretty good run. But Big O definitely needs more eps to flesh out the backstory and too see more interactions among the characters and such. The last ep left you excited and wanting to see more!

Personally, I'm looking forward to the new TMNT series coming out. It'll be done by the team that did Batman Beyond. The cool part is that it will be returning to the dark style of the original comic book. And no Venus!
An entirely CG feature film is also in the works.
I was fortunate enough to catch Welcome to Eltinville, and I must say it was absolutly brilliant. At the top of the article, it mentions the show and how many people wrote in asking when more episodes would be on, but there is no mention of the show anywhere in the lineup. What's up with that? Besides Sealab 2021, this is probably the best thing I have seen on Cartoon Network. I hope CN has some plans for new episodes and that it wasn't one of those one time deals.

Sadly, they make no mention of "Reboot". http://www.mainframe.ca/ Wish they'd bring it back...or sell the rights to SciFi channel.

I'm tired of waiting! I want to see the new dragonball z episodes NOW. I want to see the Two Towers NOW. I hope they play that Cowboy Bebop movie sometime...
