I find Gnome makes the type of computing that requires a desktop environment very straight forward. Likewise for Fluxbox and a handful of other window managers I've used in the past.
When I need to do something else with my system I can just drop to bash and get things done the efficient way. I mean, I'm using Linux, where system configuration is all done through plain text config files.
Tightly coupling the desktop environment with the entire operating system just seems like a slightly broken approach under Linux. Your power user doesn't need a GUI, most every day users don't need their environment cluttered with power tools.
Yeah, but honestly, a driver paying attention and maintaining a preference for a truly safe braking distance isn't jumping on the brakes the moment a car slips into the lane in front of them.
Slamming down on the brakes like you describe obviously increases your odds of getting rear ended in certain situations, especially if you're driving below the speed limit. But the reality is, you're a cautious driver, you see the person indicate to pull in front of you, often taking advantage of the fact that you're going under the limit - themselves wanting to drive on the limit or above it. You aren't going to hit them, so just maintain your speed. If you know you've got someone up _your_ arse, tap the brakes so the person behind you wakes up and realises you're behaving less predictably than earlier.
Most likely, the person in front is going to get further away as they ride the limit and stick right on the tail of the person in front, while you stay safe. Less likely, you have to ease your speed down to a distance you're comfortable with. Even _less_ likely is the car infront of you has to suddenly slam their brakes on - in the moments after switching lanes - to avoid killing someone, and you smash into them. But since you're so careful, I assume you had your eye on the road ahead anyway.
tl;dr, grandpa? drive defensively, drive smart, don't act unpredictably unless it serves your interests to draw attention to yourself on the road.
Sounds like a box thrown together from random used parts left over from upgrades. What do you suggest; the GP.. what.. sells the 6600 to downgrade to something of a similar tech level to the CPU?
It's "in the spirit" of Wolfenstein, and has totally destructible environments - for example you start in a little cell and using your knife you have to chip your way through the bars to get out. It's neat to see this alternative tech continue getting explored.
Mmm, trollicious.. and if I might feed further- I switched from Ubuntu to Vista Ultimate on a 2 year old laptop as my primary home computer.
I'll probably switch back, or to something else, but I've been pretty happy with Windows for the last few months. It all depends on your needs, expectations and resources.
I think a lot of athiests would prefer that the opinions of religious people be completely disregarded.
In that light, it's sort of funny really, taking issue with the vocal Christian being chosen as the E3 keynote speaker, not that the same guy is, in fact, a state governor.
After checking out the wiki link in the GPP, I realise I've seen two of that guy's films, but I can't say I would necessarily automatically recognise the characters in the same way I've been culturally programmed to recognise Mickey Mouse's silhouette or the sound of Mario collecting a coin.
Nationalism of any kind is brainwashing if you look at it like that, which may well be the case, but it's not necessarily the act of totalitarian oppression some people are ready to make it out as.
This pattern is way too regular to represent a binary encoding of any large symbol-set like an alphabet. Could be compressed according to frequency of symbols. But that would assume we could dig a dictionary out of the rest of it.

The only remaining question is how did they get so many light years from eden? Or rather- how did we?
Clearly the bible creation story isn't about our planet. Maybe this leaky work of fantasy/science fiction is more plausible on another world.. or in another dimension.. or.. nevermind.
I don't know about that, it's only relatively recently in terms of human history that these "youths" weren't the middle aged people of their society.
Now that we're industrialised and people expect to live for more than 30-40 years, people spend their first twenty years of life treated like children, and so they act like children. Big, strong, indomitable children.

Yeah its interesting that the poster read librarian and immediately assumed female and "mild" education.
I guess you probably simplified the process for brevity, but- what's to stop people putting multiple votes in the box?

Get real.
Still being pursued as a weird niche. I was absolutely amazed by Voxelstein 3D, http://voxelstein3d.sourceforge.net/

and worth a fortune, in a decade or so!
Oh no, you don't understand - it's got "Rounded plug levers" which "help prevent breakage."

Your post had it all, and now your response to moderation really shifted gears and made this seriously epic
I applaud you.
Think more in terms of: cultural impact.

In Soviet Russia, everything is the opposite in Capitalist America.
.... I feel dirty.
Are you saying more people have moved to XP from 2000, Linux and OSX because of Vista, than the apparently increasing stability of the OS itself?
Cite some references or something? I find this odd.
But we're made out of water!

Perhaps you're one of the many people with an insecure wireless network using the default admin/password combination?
Or perhaps you're one of the many people clever enough to use someone else's insecure wireless network to access the internet?
