and, in turn, ruining half of your OS. i'm not here to get into a "is it right to imbed IE into the OS" discussion, but taking IE out of a windows operating system screws up half of the things (sure, mostly eye candy) that explorer does.
if you don't like IE - don't use it. but ripping it out of your OS is asking for trouble.
say what you will about MS and windows.. but with the recent release of XP and now this 'alleged' new bugfix/security fix campaign - windows is defiantely becoming a VERY good OS. i know i'm posting this in the wrong place, and yes, i don't like the way MS does things most of the time. but, you must admit that xp is a very fine operating system, and if microsoft does in fact spend all month cleaning up code and fix some of the big holes in this software, the next incarnation of windows will be even more formidable.
..the article. the computer monitor adapter threw me off guard, along with some of the other accessories and such that come along with it. $199 is a bit pricey, but i may still pick it up. like everyone else has said - a 40gb HDD, usb keyboard/mouse, network card and so much more... not a bad deal really.
i don't really know how all of the legal angles work when it comes to NASA's liability - but here's my theroy:
lets assume this satalite hits a house - the cost of a lawsuit/repairs/etc are FAR less than building in some sort of self destruction devices, and paying people to maintain such a thing. i think the NASA people are just taking their chances hoping it lands in the ocean or in an unpopulated area, and if not - they're prepared to pay whatever the cost may be.
its looking really good - every release gets a lot more reliable, and has slowly taken over #2 from opera, and is now getting close to giving IE a run for its money. one thing i wish i knew how to do is make a nice solid, simple theme for moz though - i'm not too high on any of the themes i've seen so far.
regardless - this is not the mozilla devolpers jobs - they're doing a great job with the browser! the performance fixes they are referring to are also much anticipated - speeding this bad boy up would shut up a ton of critics.
you probablly shouldnt. most of the improvements are just to get the average user over to the NT side of the windows world.
i use 2000 as well, and actually even got in on that preview program MS had earlier this summer. while i think its a solid OS, with a lot of good improvements, it didnt do much to sway me from getting rid of 2000.
if you use 98 or ME, or have problems with 2k, then i do reccomend making the jump to XP.

unfortunately it raises a lot of privacy issues. people that get caught for the whole virus bit are in trouble no just for being malicious to another's machine, but for gaining unauthorized access. no matter what the intent would be, you would still be making changes to someone's PC without their consent.
i havent used DOS in a while but i think you got even that command wrong. the switch comes after the destination drive to format... format c:/q is the proper command.
did you play madden 2001 for PS2? i couldnt bear to look at the graphics and play 2k1 after i touched madden. granted, much credit must be given to the sega sports team for writing a game that can compete with madden after only 2 years (madden has been going strong for years now). Both have their strong points (2k1 has the best in game commentary i've ever heard) but overall madden is too in depth and much more detailed than 2k1.
this isnt really as bad as it sounds. from what i have read and been told, basically you will install the software, then have approximately 30 days to authenticate your software. you don't have to do it online either, you can call their customer service dept and they will authenticate your software by giving you some sort of unlocking code. while this is a hassle, especially to someone deploying hundreds of Whistler workstations, maybe it will finally cut down on pirated MS software.
(besides, you know that cracked warez versions will be made very soon after they RTM the final build...)
well yes, i think MS is aiming their.net strategy toward businesses, and rightfully so. thats where the bulk of their revenue comes from. but if there is not an option to buy a hard copy of my software, without subscription charges, then i doubt i'd do business with them. that is why i said that this may be a good chance for some open sourced or free products to gain a foothold in MS' market share, mainly in the consumer market. But, then again, it seems as the general public does whatever MS tells them to do anyway... so we'll see.
well said. i think this will drive alot of uses (such as myself) toward more open sourced programs, maybe even all the way to linux finally! ive been going back and forth between the two for a couple of years now, but having MS make me subscribe and constantly pay for software will drive me and many other new users to a linux distro, so get ready!
i echo that, besides, if an artist is 'unknown' as the above post says, how would you go about finding said artist?
im getting sick and tired of people trying to justify napster by saying that its used by independent artists to become known.. sorry but its just not the case.
first of all, since this is netscape's "preview 1" it is not feature complete (i.e. no skin support YET) from what ive heard the final 6.0 wont be out for another few months...
and to uninstall you only need to delete the following c:\program files\netscape\netscape6 c:\program files\netscape\users50 c:\windows\mozregistry.dat
not THAT hard people... its not a final release if youre going to whine about trivial things about unistalls and whatnot, DONT download it..
in this pre beta, you were forced to download a 16mb file or so, and you were given the following options: FULL INSTALL (mail/news, navigator, net2phone,AIM, java2,flash plugin) MINIMAL INSTALL (navigator, Java2) JUST NAVIGATOR (no java2) CUSTOM (choose as much or as little as you like) I installed the full version and played around with the AIM built in... its a good idea i suppose but it really seems to slow down the whole browsing process on my machine (400hmz,128mb ram).. but all in all, its really headed in the right direction. ive been using it since i downloaded it a few days ago and its only crashed once!!!
thats not a vaild argument considering how much smaller denmark is comapred to the US! thats like saying "the US is more technically superior because california has DSL at every home" even if every home in cali was wired for DSL, what percentage of the US would that be?
as long as i still get my cable access at my house, i'm happy =)
well said - average joe computer user doesnt want to actually sit down and learn iRC commands, let alone search through thosands of warez/mp3 channesls to find what they want... just go download a client, install it, and in minutes youve got about any mp3 you want.
sounds really interesting, and alot more convienient that using a vcr to tape all of my favorite shows... is the system in 'beta' or something now? when do they plan to offer this to everyone?
it stikes me as odd that the media is making a big deal about this build of windows being on the net.... for as long as i can remember, you can go to a 'warez' channel on IRC and easily find any windows product on the market. ya know, if windows would let windows be openly beta tested, maybe more of their bugs would get worked out =)!

thanks for brightning up my morning, that was rather funny.
isnt that galeon?
i think its just a bugfix, it's still nowhere close to mozilla's speed and memory footprint though.

there are a few screenshots of the upcoming whistler on the following review page.

basically MS redid the start menu and made it more attracive to the average joe schmoe's eyes.
