How is this different from the current state of things in the US, where you so often have to register with your own credit card? That seems like it'll cover virtually all cases.
Not that it doesn't really suck that players can mostly be tracked down to their real identities or anything, but that's a different story, I think.
It's not cells -- it's an object system called CLON. It's more along the lines of KR. It's prototype-based and emphasises the message-passing bit more. It's a much simpler system than CLOS (which can be nice in some cases, such as when you want to bring in strangers and have them extend/remix your game).
This makes me think we should probably address the problem of people being so saturated with memes, buzzwords, and tea, that they turn into useless lumps of anger. The best part of this story, of course, is the fact that all this bullshytt is being spread by the same people who were ecstatic about having absolute federal government control, up until a few years ago.
Yawn.
Art is a labor of love. Love does not require profit, and an entire industry that puts its entire weight behind commercial success and greed can only do harm to one of the arts that I love.
May they crash and burn. I really do mean that. I'd rather have ad-hoc groups of 5 or so people who really love the labor they put their time into.
The entire games industry was born out of this love, this passion. It's disappeared from big companies. People who once sat in their rooms hacking assembly on ancient machines, out of passion, are now being exploited into grinding their lives away on a schedule, their creativity mostly ignored in favor of a few elite designers' "market-proven talent".
..but I really take issue with the way in which apps have been split between gtk+ and qt. Choice is awesome, don't get me wrong, and I don't particularly favor either toolkit, since they're both free and have their own advantages (and they're both really popular).
What I take real issue with is the fact that I'll install some random app, and it'll either work half-assedly or look like crap because I haven't installed the config thing for the 'other' desktop. This has happened to me numerous times in the past. Most recently when I started using a gtk+ based DE (XFCE) from using KDE. The difference in the way some apps like firefox looked made me wonder why I never bothered to get gtk configured before. Likewise, I really like Amarok, and the difference in look from unconfigured qt settings to a properly-themed program is amazing.
I just hope one of them finally gives it up and dies...
By the way, I'm using a couple small chunks of XFCE in combination with Xmonad, and I think it's the greatest thing I've ever used.
Actually, the My Documents would be more like the C:\Documents and Settings\
/home/ contains the account folders for all users. My Documents exists on each user's account in Windows, and only really contains Documents (although a few programs have taken to dumping their junk in there as well).
...kinda like the idea of not having a massive box on my desk. This is more than welcome.. small form factor is nice.

Denying the effects of the embargo on the island just makes you look like an ignorant moron.
Here's a news flash for you, though: Pretty much any place in the Caribbean is in pretty shitty condition. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, a heavily capitalist US territory. The fact of the matter, though, is that when you leave the really nice touristy and/or metropolitan areas, the place is generally a shithole. There is much more to it than just 'ZOMG THERE IS A DICKTAYTOR AND HE IS COMMIE'. Hell, I'm more than comfortable blaming most of the troubles that Cuba (and most of Latin America's current troubles) on US imperialism and general involvement/abuse.
...the article is saying the male brain responds more actively to a specific type of game. One cannot draw a general conclusion from this. I'm not the least bit surprised that aggressive, competitive, territory-domination games are more popular amongst men, though.
This is an interesting news posting, specially considering what's been going on with the whole Internet Hate Machine vs. Scientology thing these past months. I don't think there's been enough thought into the implications of large, somewhat-cohesive online groups on RL. It's good that at least someone is paying attention.
I have a friend that uses his passport as his main ID. He showed it to me once: He keeps it wrapped in a couple of layers of tinfoil. It's one of those newfangled RFID passports:P
...a group composed of members of several -chan sites (4chan, 7chan, 711chan), as well as several other related communities like YTMND and Ebaum's.
Really, this is a joke. Channers will raid/invade just about anything, and Scientology is just their latest target. This is the exact same group behind the 'hackers on steroids' thing that Fox News reported on. Any claims they have about righteousness are just a way to justify their 'lulz'.
Love my R4. I downloaded this thing last night before I saw it on slashdot. It's pretty amazing. All they have ready so far is the GUI and basic gameplay. You only have two buildings (terran command center and a barracks) and you can only build SCVs and marines. There's a few enemy marines on the map to kill, and that's about it...
But it works amazingly well. The controls are more smooth and precise than so many other official DS games I've played. Basically, you tap on a unit to select it, and tap on something else to make it do an action. It automatically selects the right action. Selecting the units is really accurate, I never actually had to tap them more than once to get them to select. You can also do a drag-select, and that works too. The GUI, even in its early stage, is also very nice and responsive. When you select a unit, you get a little menu on the right hand of the screen with some icons for the actions you can do. The game even runs at full speed, with good sound output (with sounds from the actual gome... give me somethin' to shoot) and everything. I imagine the resolution is lower, but I certainly can't tell. They're doing an amazing job with this, I'm really impressed. I hope they carry on with it, and if Blizzard gets involved, that they hire them to do an official version, because this is going to be commercial quality if they keep it up.

Demand is essentially infinite...
