...why spammers continue making money is that people continue to click through to their sites. People still are sending their credit card numbers via non-SSL enabled pages to them. People still seem to believe their manhood/member can be 3"-6" longer in mere weeks.
There have been studies in the Boston area, where I live, that demonstrates a few simple utopian rules that would significantly reduce traffic in the area- one of them being that if people allow some space between themselves and the car in front of them, much of the traffic congestion could be avioded. On the spam issue, if people stopped falling for the ads, got a little educated, and didn't allow themselves to be so easily deceived, then the problem would be significantly reduced and only the most illegal of spamming would make itself obvious.
You're exactly right. The same thing applies to cars. I look at crazy cases and think "rice" the same way I look at a Honda with a 3 foot aluminum wing on the back.
I lease a RaQ3 from Interliant (formerly Sage Networks) and I was cracked with some scripts that someone ran. Luckily, Interliant knew about 3 of 5 exploits, of which 2 were used on my box. They were able to patch the holes and no data was lost. I have also found that when I have problems with the RaQ, the support for Cobalt machines at Sun is almost more helpful than the service at Interliant. Mind you, it sounds nighmarish at this Communitech, but I can certainly recommend Interliant as they have an unlimited bandwidth policy which I have not seen changed nor have I seen any radical unannounced shifts in policy. Regardless, sometimes it's definitely easier to bypass the ISP altogether as Cobalt is friendly and knowledgable and able to help as a RaQ customer...
Sure, the overall look might be Mac, Windows, Linux- but I used to work for a major studio and I know for a fact that most computer systems they show on screen for TV or movies are basically mockups. Where I was Director was popular because you could make pretty windows and progress bars do what you wanted them to do. I don't think I've ever seen a movie or TV show that depicted a real OS functioning for any period of time. Remember "The Net"? The graphics in that were terrible. It was a Mac-like director movie, basically. I also love Jurassic Park, when Nedry is talking to the guy at the dock and it's a Quicktime movie playing made to look like a live shot from a camera. Don't get all excited for something that isn't quite all there.
Now that M$ has conquered everything in the USA, they can move to Canada and wipe out all the little insignificant tech companies. Besides, M$ would be admitting defeat.:)
Well Apple is using Apache for personal web sharing. A little tweaking and I'm sure you won't be needing those IIS boxes anymore. Picture a graphic design business that also hosts websites using load-balancing and people's desktop Macs as servers...:)
Are there any other machines similar to a Cobalt RaQ or Qube that can be rigged to serve? These net appliances seem to accommodate surfers and such but what about really cheap internet servers?
I've been selling school bandwidth with wireless networking hardware for almost a year now to people in the immediate vicinity to some of the dorms. I can see that as being internet theft but using a cable within a building is silly to be called theft. What I'm doing is definitely theft but based on my tracking of traffic the people that pay me for a 24/7 connection don't use much at all. None operate servers and they are all aware of the rules that I lay down for them.
Is there a phone, with a high coolness level such as this phone- which is available now? Not one of those lame email phones but something truly cool/different...
I have to say that Radio Shack is certainly at the bottom of the pile. We all saw how the Apple stores in CompUSA worked, I can only assume this will be much of the same, except with even worse products.
Personally I'm taking a "wait and see" approach to this. I have no doubt in my mind that whatever comes out of their development labs will be cool as hell, but the rumor mill will just churn out more and more as the time draws near...
As for Intel, it could be a killer chip but does Transmeta have what it takes, even with a killer chip, to take on Intel in the short run?

What's your point?

Badly-performing broadband is faster than great-performing modems.

Software is like a pair of rabbits...give it time.
