You can imagine a call to Windows tech support from someone using Windows that has had the Start button removed.
I don't know. If they worried so much about that problem they wouldn't have put "personalized menus" in win2k and office2k. This problem is the first thing I thought about when I first saw that "feature" was on by default. I get a few calls a week where I walk people through turning that off.
Ummmm.... no... take a dualy 1GHZ and a gig of ram (which is NOT that expensive now days) and you will be able to have 30 - 50 clients running normal apps
that is pretty much the diffintion of Speakeasy.net DSL service. It is expensive, but they are geek friendly. I think they purposely make sure they are turning a profit on your account. This ensures they wont go out of business and therfor a more reliable line.
Anyway I had them hooked up for the past few months sence I moved and am very pleased.
First off this guy is not a senator. Therefore he does not represent the entire state of Virginia. I haven't verified this but other rumblings in this topic state that he is the rep for the Southwestern area of VA. Besides Blacksburg and VA Tech that area of VA is decidedly rural and non-urban South.
Second I think that your point that this representative might have these companies in his district and that somehow make his potentially corrupt is crazy. The reason we have particular districts elect particular reps is to EPHPASIZE the interest of those districts!!! If we did not want to emphasize these differences we would have national elections for every senator and rep.
For instance, no one is going to look out for the auto industry like reps in Michigan. In the ebb and flow of congress these guys should go to battle against the airline guys from Seattle, the computer guys form Silicon Valley and the rep form any town USA who wants a new damn. I am not naive enough to believe there is not any corruption surrounding this process, but it is our process. And it is the way our process is SOPOSED to work.
Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all those others that have been tried from time to time.

I think I will just now start every post with a little "IMHO" just so I don't have any problems. This has to be the most sensible thing I have read about U.S. courts and "cyberspace" related law in a long time.
Call me silly but in my opinion a growing population is a good thing. Probably part of the reason I am alive today;-) . Now a situation of over population is a problem, but not necessarily a growing population.
disadvantages of the industrial revolution:
less worker necessary -> unemployment...
Again call me weird, but I am glad that the efficiencies that have been found for growing food free up so many workers. This is what is probably enabling me to make money being a computer geek right now.
I am not someone who likes "revolution" for the sake of revolution but some of those points you made I just had to comment on.

If there is a way to Mod someone "dickhead" lets do it for this guy, just because of his mis-spelt inflamatory sig.
Actualy I liked the previous rules reegarding stacking. If you had multiple units in the open field then you are right the "biggest" unit would defend all units in the square. But if you built a fort, or had units in a city then "stacking" would work.
I sold a copy of NT server 4.0 on ebay that I won at a seminar once. Although this was three and a half years ago. I saw no reason to belive that I was breaking any law by selling a box of software I had not registered, used or opened. It did have a big "not for Resale" sticker on it, but I realy didn't think that had any binding agreement with that stickers. I recieved a good $400 for it too!
I remember on the Commodore 128 with the 1750 (512k baby) RAM expansion cart. I had a word processor (Busy Bee Writer I think it was called) where you could load the spell check dictionary to the RAM disk first. This was oh so much better then spell checking with the dictionary on the floppy. Yes even with a interleave set to only 4 on the 1571 it would still take about 20 min to get your way through a 10 page paper with 20 or so mis-spellings. The RAM Disk would knock this time down to about 5:-)
Microsoft offers the NT 4 Option Pack as a free download. Among other things, this update adds Internet Information Server 4.0, the last version of IIS released for Windows NT. You can find the download page here, but you'll notice that Microsoft couldn't be bothered to package the files into a self-extracting archive. Consequently, you'll have to separately download all 52 files. Or you could always just upgrade to Windows 2000, which has IIS 5.0 built in (nudge, nudge).
I ran in to this thing about a month and a half ago when rebuilding a NT 4.0 server for a client. This was one thing to really piss me off in addition to everything else that day. In my rage I sent an e-mail to bill@microsoft.com with the URL of the offending page and attached a copy of WinZip. Ofcourse all I got was a bot inresponse.
Yeah I hate it when "linux" jumps out and shouts at me. Last night I heard Linux in the other room yelling at a poor old Commodore 64. Bashing it as just another Microsoft OS with blue screens. I had to step in because that bastard Linux was getting a little caried away. Damit.
I have a pen pal in France. Occasionaly I send her gifts. A few times I have wanted to send her a movie. Not always something new eaither. Just imagin a French girl watching the Blues Brothers. But because of all of this zone crap I haven't even attempted. Now I know I could try to find a zone 2 disk of a movie to send to her, or try to find a no Zoned disk... but I don't really want to go thru all that trouble.
And I know the MPAA cares about lost sales. They have lost AT LEAST A WHOLE $50 from me;-)
But if people start taking ownership of water by say colouring it with dye and taking legal action against anyone who tries to resell that water it would be mad. (watermarking data).
Isn't this was Coca-Cola is? Coke is good. It dosent make me mad. Although I guess I can buy a bottle of coke and try to sell it to someone else and coke dosn't get mad at me for doing this.
I don't know what I am talking about, I think I need more caffeen.
Well when I go to the next firebrand book burning I will take every portable CD player I can find with the 30-second antiskip buffer. These devices are obviously satanic and deserve the fiery death that they will get. I urge all patriotic defenders of Metalickca, P Diddly Doodle, and the Backside Boys to join me in this defense of the American way.
Hehehe. I won a 10 user license of NT 4.0 server about 4 years ago at a trade show. On the box it had a big sticker stating "Promotional copy not for resale".
I promptly got a little steam going from the kettle and pulled the sticker of and sold it on E-Bay for $400. Who is to tell me I can't sell that. This was pre DMCA too, but I just don't understand how anyone could tell you not to sell that. I didn't even open the package. I think I ended up buying the sofa in my living room with that money too.
Just stipulation but I bet you that Microsoft took a tax write off for $995 or what ever it is they where trying to sell NT for that year. Kinda a situation where in one instance they want it to hold value and the other instance they do not want it to hold value.
Actualy there is a virus out there that does this all be it very ineffeciantly. It looks for open shares on 9x systems named "C" and loads dnet on the system. I actualy removed this from a users system at work yesterday.
What version of IIS are you running? I have never seen this green arrow. I do a whole lot more NT / 2k administration and consulting then I care to admit to. Maybe this is something related to PWS?
Hey, just plugging the link to my brothers site with h2k2 pictures. http://www.opticaldelusions.net/28a.html

Why do you keep posting the same thing? I mean you must win a prize for have a post being redundant because of your own previous post.
Karma whore.

Whoopty F-ing do. My life is now complete that they are going to make the fourth in a series of bad movies.

I intercepted it before it ran so I didn't get a chance to check the stats. Thought about it later thought.
Oh and feel free to check my DNet stats for rich@tekkie.org. I am about to hit my millionth RC5 block by the end of the month.
Bah, anything being sold as "something the french are doing" has always had a hard time getting to the USA, and that's no news!
Mod this guy up high... That was one of the best things I have ever seen. That IBM guy has some balls :-p
Great, now the KGB can read Harry Potter for free!
