IE6 is litterally built in to windows XP. Every time you open an explorer window, it is working in exactly the way IE works. Haven't you ever typed "My Computer" or "Control Panel" in to an IE address bar? Haven't you ever typed slashdot.org into a windows explorer window?
I'm not sure why I should potentially lower my conversion rate by hassling people to upgrade their browser. That seems like Microsoft's job, not mine.
Maybe they could use the same features that redirect you to msn.com or bing to redirect you to a browser selection page, no? In the mean time, I will just keep including stylesheets for IE6 that do some graceful degredation. It won't look great, but it won't be illegible.
Besides, it seems like most IE6 users in this age are enterprise clients who can't upgrade until their vendors start supporting new browsers, or until the interprise itself gets rid of legacy programs.
There are so many OSS/FOSS repositories out there. I'd love to see them help foster the copyleft movement and get a directory of creative commons art, audio, video, and ui elements. It would both benefit Linux itself, and attract high traffic for people looking for stock photos etc. thus, ad revenue.
I said opposable thumbs in my original post, but you're definately correct. Upright walking - in combination with the thumb - is the real winner. Knuckle walking members of the ape family (all of them but humans) don't have a freed up hand to use the tools they make while walking.
In fact it's easy to argue that the random arrangements of nuero-transmitters and nueroreceptors in your head dictate from birth every reaction to every experience you will ever have.
The only thing that sets us apart from animals is a) the ability for abstract thought b) thumbs. If your argument was that computers need to be able to think abstractly about the world and how to combine things to make new things, then maybe you're on to something. If your argument is that humans are somehow not subject to strict hard rules on our behavior, I think you overestimate humanity.
If only electro-magnets could be set to "attract" and "repel" ferrous metals.
If we could do that, I bet we could harness the tech for cheap as hell space launches.
So i guess the moral of the story is salt your passwords and make sure you have a strong root password?
We can add some more common sense in there like "keep your os up to date", "don't give your password out to people", and "that nigerian prince isn't going to pay up"?
I can has security eckspurt?
That is nice, but I've had experiences with websites that won't allow the + sign as part of an email address.
Unfortunately, emails are one of the hardest things to validate with regex, and most implementations get it wrong.
Ok, yeah, I was born in the 80s and didn't see the movie in the theaters, but I saw the movie originally at a young enough age to have a lot of that same sense of nostalgia. Make of that what you will. It's just full disclosure.
The plot did suck, but not because it had a script that felt like "it was written by people who had never used a computer". Clearly anyone who is familiar with the Tron universe knows that Legacy fit in fine. It sucked because it was cliche, it sucked because it was predictable, it sucked because Kevin Flynn was played by The Dude (though, too their credit, they tried to turn him in to a monk, it's too bad they didn't pull it off). On a personal note, it sucked because neither Imax nor 3D added anything to the film, but I got suckered in to the insane ticket prices anyway.
Even so, it was a fun ride, and I can't wait to own it. I just certainly won't be paying attention to it for the plot, though. I'll probably just be using it to show off my HDTV.
Flat taxes are inherently regressive. Go national sales tax or VAT, that way people are taxed on sonsumption, not earning, and frugality can be rewarded.
They are ridiculously wasteful and artificially prop up the price of ethanol when we should be producing them with grasses and weeds instead of corn stalks.
Or how about the TSA?
If progressives use this weapon aganst them, they can be forced to put their money where their mouth is.
Whomever coined the word "Hactivism" has a DDoS with their name on it, as far as I'm concerned.
Hate, hate, hate, that word. It's neither hacking nor activism.
Firstly, I had my tongue planted firmly in cheek in the initial posting.
Second, just because something has a REASON for being phallic doesn't mean it is NOT phallic. Yes, a submarine, a rocket, an airplane, and a large blood engorged sausage all have reasons for their shapes, but all their shapes are roughly that of a penis.

I like this idea as well. If OSS/FOSS had a "brand" identified with it, it could be much stronger.

Legally, he is correct. Rationally, it's stupid that he's correct... But he's still correct.

Who says our brains work any differently?

Isn't that what people do with their hotmail account anyway? Throw it away?
how ironic. That should say "am" but I am on my phone using swype.
/. How can I contact your advertising department to get a sponsored pidt like this one?
I take this as full disclosure, not editorializing.
Just some FUD to sell an app.
And slashdot bought it, hook, line, and sinker.

Almost always when searching for breaking news, the top results are complete spam and malware.

Alright... I'll give you that.
Isn't a 747 about as falic a shape as you can get?
This was my first thought as well. 0 reason for anything else.
