I use these services for personal use indeed. There's no industrial secret (or any secret) in my personal email. But my business stores everything in house and email communication with key partners or customers is on TLS.
Is my business the only one ever to realise that blackberry stores your emails on their servers, and that the patriot act gives US government the right to read it? I don't understand why so many businesses overlook that.
That appropriate word is "avant-garde". Nothing non-ASCII in here.
(not that anyone cares but well... you're a surrender-monkey snail eater spelling nazi or you're not; and I am)
And the blackhat standing by the exit door with a 50$ RFID-reader gets my account as well.
I work at a company who works on the cellphone side of the thing. It's been part of the specs since the first drafts that transfers require a manual validation (press a button) to occur. Did you really think you were the first to think of that.
I especially like their "solution" for illegal downloading from work:
What do company employees risk?
In the case of illegal downloading inside companies, an alternative measure to the ISP subscription cut will be proposed ; that is to say, the installation of digital protections like firewalls on employees workstations in order to block downloads. Although, public places where it's possible to connect to the Internet (public libraries...) will also be concerned and will have to put in place a protection system to prevent illegal downloading from their computers.

1- Put nice sentences together and try to reinvent the wheel
2- Mess up the implementation because you understand nothing to IT
3- ???
4- Blame someoneelse (next government?) for the complete failure!!!
I was going to mod some comments as Flamebait until i realised the whole article and most of the comments should me modded as such, then gave up.
Especially the first comment makes me tired. It's just a few words long, is obviously a flamebait, but got +5 insightful. Pff...
I, as a westerner living in a democratic country and believing in Freedom of speach and such, am more than tired of seeing my peers giving great lessons of Life and Politics to the others. Speaking out opinions is good. But shutting up and thinking before speaking also.
I know i'm getting horrible modding on this one, but I don't care, that will partly prove me right.
I don't agree with the argumentation, but i do think the Wii is good for the parents.
That is because the Wii records which games have been played for how long in an easy to access message and there's no way to remove this log. Should your little boy have played Manhunt 2 or some so-called "dangerous" games, or just a regular game for the whole day, during his absence, the not-too-silly parent knows it.
As far as I know (but I may be wrong as i never played XBOX360 or PS3), no other console does it.
Now, on a modern PC, the load times in Half Life are so short that you won't notice them - you'll get a really fast blip of text saying "now loading", and that's about it.
Dude, i feel life is so unfair reading this. When I still played HL2 loadings on my computer were so long that I used to roll a joint and smoke half of it during it.
If you can justify to the national ISP that unmonitored Internet access is a business requirement and are willing to pay your access more expensive you get your unmonitored access. It is not illegal, it is not bribery. I know it, my company does it.
What kind of communication about security did you do with your users ? I'm wondering if the reason why this worked is because you have so little users (20+ workstations) and therefore you had enough time to make them VERY WELL aware of security risks, maybe by spending time discussing with the one people who did not quite get it.
Although I do believe false feeling of security is one of the greatest enemies of security and I find your approach interesting, i'm not convinced this would work in a much bigger organization, in which you don't have the time to go discuss with each user individually, and where the IT security guys seem to be so far away.
Oh and I can't imagine myself explaining this approach to some accreditation auditors (even after making them drunk and happy).
He has been shot several times with one bullet stuck in his head. According to authorities, this last head shot is a clear mark of russian hit men. Bwehehehe, shouldn't have spammed agent 47. Did this guy sent spam for baldness treatment that didn't work ?
I'm reading this discussion, and i'm seeing people arguing that Apple laptops are not overpriced and then fire up Dell and Asus prices.
OK... Tell you what, i bought a new personal laptop last month. A 60 go IDE 5400RPM HD, basic intel gma graphics card, pentium M, 512mo DDR, for 450$. Ridiculous you might say ? Well, it's running (Debian) Linux with XFCE, and it works a lot faster than those 1600$ laptops you're talking about (including my work laptop which is exactly of one those), and in case of those XP, or even Vista PCs, a lot more reliably. When Windows PCs or Mac owners ask me where did i find such slim and powerful piece of hardware and for what price, I gladly explain.
OK it's not as beautiful as the MAC, and lacks features compared to it. But hey, it's 1000$ less. And i could still add a few features if i ever needed them by buying them separately.
PS: C'mon, why did not anyone else say something similar yet ? It's Slashdot !
I leave in China. My co-workers and friends know it... but it's not something to talk about, even if I live in a relatively free-minded area of the country (i.e. here you don't get executed for talking about it in public, just moved away (for your own good) by guards). It's part of the overall acceptance of one's fate.
I don't know why all of you guys seem to hate Vista so much. It seems blabbering against Vista is one of your main activities (along with Bush, MAFIAA and so on of course).
But, man, Vista is just great : it gives us a good laugh almost every day recently ! What other OS could do that ? Hmmm ?

Aaand thanks to that article we now have people thinking there's actually a EU President like there's a US President.
Well yes, except that they'll build them Chinese style: by the thousands. I bet 10000 not so stealth jet fighters would beat any one's asse.

That's because there are about 5 patriotic French who read Slashdot. All the other ones are too old to know what is Slashdot (or Internet).

1. Create product
2. Program stocks shortage on launch
3. Let headlines say "product XXXX sold out in XXXX hours !!!!"
4. Profit...
Reminds me of the Wii.

How long will 2 AA batteries last shooting so much power ?
