    In all reality, however, It's most probable that little will come of this. A university that is available entirely online is of little worth. Most colleges across the nation are starting online classes as we speak, so they fill the void already that an online university could hope for.

    I think that you missed one key word here: Free.

    Sure the existing colleges may have SOME online classes, but this one will be totally online, and totally free.

    Well, the existing hardware isn't exactly good enough to handle that capability, though.

    Honestly, do you think that *ANYTHING* worth viewing is going to be readable on that screen? Now, if they threw a bigger screen on there, it would be a totally different story.

    I download illegal mp3's because I will not spend 16 dollars on a cd that cost them some absurd amount of money, like 10 cents. Sure, factor in recording/marketing costs and it goes up, but most of what I listen to isn't marketed anyway.

    So, do you also pirate all your software, then? That's the same price as burning an audio cd most likely, except they sell it for an absurdly higher profit...

    Then again, maybe you see paying that much for this reproduced media as allright, because you're probably a techie that can sympathize with the many hours of labor that programmers go through, and the need to pay them.

    Well, record companies have employees to be paid as well... or do they not have a right to earn any money?

    what kind of computer you'd be trying to RUN that emu on, anyways... Given the fact that PSX1/N64 emus run slowly on anything but pretty respectable machines, you'd need one hell of a computer to emulate a psx2.

    Oh, and even if they *DID* make one, everyone would complain because they wouldn't have a Linux version...

    Just a thought, but why would the ID's need to be changed in addition to the passwords? Wouldn't a new (good) password be enough?

    If that's all they needed to do, the users themselves should be competent enough to handle that...

    Hm, I believe that you can make the fonts in windows as big as you want them to be. Go to the display settings menu, then go to settings, then advanced. There should be a font size menu... if you go to other, you should be able to type in any percentage you want in that little box.. (well, up to 500% normal size... which i HOPE is enough.)

    Also, about borders and icons.. also in display properties, if you go to appearance, you should be able to change those as well.

    Note: I'm using Win98... not sure if it's any different in 95/NT/2000 or whatever. (I'm ASSUMING that you're not still using 3.1 ;) )

    Well, how about putting all sorts of garbage in the files for the real DeCSS code? If both the real one and fake one have all sorts of garbage and different file sizes, won't that throw everything off?

    Also, you could put a bunch of comments in the DeCSS code itself so the file size on that isn't the same either...

    It's a cute idea, but it's not that hard to defeat. If I was writing a 'bot to search for DeCSS, I would just check the file size and a hash, and keep a list of "real" DeCSS hashes.

    If that's the way it's done, what's stopping people from adding a bunch of stuff to the DeCSS files to make ones of all different sizes?

    add a couple extra files to that zip... add some comments to the source... this could be done, 'ne?

    It is just me, or does it seem like SlashDot is becoming more and more a place to inform us about the need to fight for our rights? With all this stuff about UCITA, the DeCSS case, etc... It kinda seems like we're almost a 'resistance' of sorts...

    You are, of course, wrong. The scheme works like this:
    1) the software won't operate unless it is allowed to contact a remote server during operation. So if you want to use the software at all, you'll open the hole in the firewall.


    Oh, of course that will happen... Hmm, that would mean I can't use my new version of Microsoft Word without being connected to the internet? I seriously doubt it'll be like that.
