Moral of the story: If you want a fast internet connection, don't live in the middle of nowhere.
Joking aside, a lot of the time it just isn't practical to get broadband out to people in certain areas. Besides sattelite (which is far from perfect, lots of latency and slow upload), it's really not worth it for these companies to put the infrastructure in place to serve the few amount of people that would use it.
If they could make extremely-long-range wireless, though... I'd love to be able to just run around anywhere and have a constant high-speed monthly-charge connection to my laptop. Mmm....
Yes, there really is no reason to have a reusable digital camera without an LCD screen. What's the point of even having it be digital if you have to get the pictures processed by the store anyway? Isn't the whole point of digital cameras that you can preview the pictures and that you DON'T have to get film processed? These cameras allow neither of those - they're pointless!
You can get film developed and put on a picture CD at a much higher quality than this. Why even bother having it be digital??
Blood and guns missing? We see those EVERY DAY on primetime television and in quite a few movies. Games use them all the time. Bouncing boobs? Fire up a game of DOA volleyball, turn on MTV spring break, watch the Victoria's Secret fashion shows on broadcast television, walk down the street, etc. etc.
Why they felt the need to remove things that we are constantly exposed to is beyond me.
(or they'd make political hay from mandating a no-evil-uses-with-EZPass policy, but this is Slashdot, so we all just assume a police state is inevitable, right?)
Ahh yes, our dear Slashdot, where tinfoil is headwear and 1984 is the bible.
Yes, but this is Slasdot, where everyone thinks that, regardless of law, they have the god-given right to distribute whatever copyrighted material they want and then yell and scream when people get in trouble for it.
That's most likely because we can see some benefit for the US in "teaching a man to fish" in countries that are developed, but we don't stand to gain any benefit from the third world countries.
No, he wasn't an art teacher. The ONLY thing he was there to do was to be the computer tech. It's just that he had an art degree.... and this is at one of the best school systems in the nation (Illinois District 211). Oy.
While I'm tempted to use this to silence those inconsiderate bastards in the movie theaters, there is a LOT of risk involved. How would you feel if, because of your jamming, someone didn't get an important emergency phone call and got fired / dumped / beaten senseless / etc.? If something were to happen because they didn't get a call, and it was found out that you were jamming the phone, could you be held liable for any proven damages?
Regardless of how rude it is for people to be talking on cell phones anywhere and everywhere, you have no right to decide for yourself, "They shouldn't be talking, so I'll stop them."
And besides all that, you don't magically get spam in your inbox like you do with Hotmail. It seems that right after you get a hotmail account, no matter how private you keep it, you start getting spam, while with Yahoo mail, I've NEVER gotten a spam in the three years I've had my private account.
They're actually opening up three new servers, which will most likely be almost all USA people since the Japanese probably won't want to leave their servers behind (they allowed emigration to the new servers).
But still, playing with the Japanese is a LOT better than not. Money is VERY VERY hard to come by in this game except through the auction house. Items that can be used for crafting go for a lot of money, and that is pretty much everyone's money supply. If there were no demand for that, the game would be infinitely harder due to crappy equipment/no spells, and it's already hard enough.
Then there's the fact that there are people to raise you when you need it, people to help with the subjob quest, etc etc. The Japanese players, for the most part, are incredibly nice and very eager to help.
I was disappointed when I heard that there weren't going to be new US servers, but once I actually started playing, I'm VERY glad we're on the established ones.
Heavy monthly fees? Most are $12ish/month nowadays. That's the equivalent of one movie with food. Seems a lot more economical to me to have entertainment for the entire month than for one night.

... for people who want to do some file-sharing!
>> Why not just pull IE from the market altogether and tell everybody to download Mozilla and get on with their lives?

[blink][blink]
Yeah, that's going to happen.
Unless it's a margarita!

Yes, we call it daytime.
The yellow face, it burns us...

... or does it seem like a bad idea to piss off someone who is building a missile?
Alex Chiu is going to make a fortune.
Of course, you have to install the spyware-enhanced version to get the spyware-free version, irony++.
As was Duke Nukem Forever, in order to add DX10 functionality.
They DON'T get some of the games we get, and almost all the time if they DO get them, it's at a much later date than us.
This is the UK we're talking about, they love to throw in random vowels.

The computer tech at my high school was so incredibly incompetent. We eventually found out why - he had a degree in ART.

For information on just about anything related to DVD/CD recording, DVDRHelp.com is a great resource.
You can actually get a DVD+/-R for under $100 as well (affiliate link).
