Then those 99% of people can suffer the consequences. It's no different than asking you if you're on any new meds when you go in to see the doctor. If you say "no" and then they prescribe you something that mixes horribly with what you're on, it's your own fault for not saying anything.

The potential for abuse is far too high here. I'm sure that not all medical staff are happy with their current pay. Why not supplement it with some nice data grabbing? This also creates one very big target for attack. The more people's data you have in one place the more likely it is that someone's going to try and get it.

The GPs mention of the potential for abuse by insurance companies is right on. Look at credit - how easy is it to fix your credit score if it's been all jacked up? It's not. I can't wait for "health scores" that are similarly disastrous. That'll be all kinds of fun. :-/

What's the point? What kind of amazing formatting could they possibly be using for a simple text document? Do we have pretty pictures and graphs integrated into our bills now? Yes it is. Console gaming is different than PC Gaming. People running consoles don't usually want to spend a ton of money on the system, they want to buy fun games and play them. The graphics aren't necessarily the number 1 priority. I'd bet most PS2 owners still just own a regular standard definition TV too. Just more proof that gameplay will always be more important than graphics and lame gaming communities. The entire Wii system is built around this fact. Cheap next gen console = cheap fun.

  15. Re:Interesting/Disappointing on The Realities of Selling Independently Developed PC Games · · Score: 1

I think pricing is a big one. I rarely buy games as soon as they come out. I'm just not going to spend $50 on a game. I'll usually wait until they come down to $35 or less - and that's for a title from a big developer with AAA quality. For an indie game, I wouldn't expect to pay more than $20. I've seen some great indie games but very rarely do they even begin to have the depth and polish of a big name title. You just can't charge the same price for a Geo as you do an Aston Martin. People aren't dumb.

  16. Re:Interesting/Disappointing on The Realities of Selling Independently Developed PC Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

Yes, but musicians also get revenue from playing shows (which can't be pirated). A musician could make a living just from playing shows while all of his music is being pirated or given away for free.

This isn't true of software. Indie developers have one source of income - their game. If people pirate that game, that dev is not getting paid. I'm not going to get into a pissing match about whether piracy on a small scale actually ends up helping game sales. I am, however, willing to contend that music and games are completely different in this area.

I absolutely agree. People driving 50 in the fast lane, cutting others off, and failing to signal cause far more trouble than people just driving fast. I believe that the following too closely issue has more to do with people trying to avoid being cutoff (by people going much slower) than anything else. Old system was side by side lights that looked roughly like this:
x
x x
x x

Where the topmost x was a red light. The bottom left hand side lights were both left arrows indicating that they controlled left turn traffic. Green arrow meant you had a protected turn (as always). If nothing on the left was lit and you only had a green light on the right it meant you had to yield. There was a sign next to the light saying "Left turn yield on green" with a picture of the solid green circle you'd see on the right hand side of the tree.

This was replaced with a typical light tree with the addition of a flashing yellow arrow. I don't remember the exact configuration of the light because I've only been to the town a few times since it was changed. I tried googling a bit but I couldn't find anything that looked like the exact configuration I'd seen.

I agree. I've been cruising around the 'net since around the same time ('93/'94) and I've never accidentally found myself on a NSFW page. I've been rick rolled plenty, but thankfully there are no memes that involve duping people into going to NSFW sites and getting written up by HR.

However, I'm not going to say it's impossible. I know of people that have accidentally gone to whitehouse.com rather than .gov. A child learning about the Internet and trying to do a report on the White House could easily make the same mistake.
