I had a similar experience as well. I think I died once against the first big daddy because I inadvertently damaged him while I was chasing a splicer and he rushed me before I could hide. After that, killing the big daddies was always straight forward enough. I'd just stock up on ammo and health packs and then make sure I kept something between me and them. The freeze / electrifiy splices let you freeze the big daddy and take pot shots at him. I'll admit it's intimidating the first time but it's not unreasonably tough.
Lame modding aside, I agree that the simplest solution is to switch to year-round DST. That was my first thought anyway. People in southern states don't understand daylight savings time because they already get a ridiculous amount of sun... but when you live up there in the north, getting that extra hour of sun during the summer / spring is *really* nice. Unilaterally changing your own hours doesn't solve that. School isn't going to accept the fact that you want to show up an hour early and leave an hour late and most bosses won't either (especially if your business hasn't even opened yet at that hour).
I'm no nuclear physicist... but I know that one of the reasons anything nuclear is usually shied away from in space is because if the rocket carrying it up there blows up on the pad / on its way up... you've basically just detonated a dirty bomb.
Once you reach outer space and are going a certain speed, am I right when I say you don't have to continue propelling yourself through the air?
Uhh, what air?:P
smart remarks aside, Mars is *really* far away and even when you're going really fast it takes quite a while to get there. You'd basically need the same amount of fuel to return as you did to go in the first place... if you're lucky and you happen to leave at the optimal time when Mars is closest to the Earth. I have no idea how often we're at our closest to Mars so I don't know how long that interval would be. (Too lazy to get real numbers.)
Of course you'll also need other supplies to make the trip home as well, you'll need food, water, oxygen, etc. Although you'll be growing your own food on Mars I don't think you'll have the space to do that on a small spaceship returning home.
I'm not saying it's impossible, you just end up having to worry about twice as many supplies as well as creating a vehicle that has the ability to both land and take off from Mars.
Torture has long been known to be an ineffective way of extracting information from people. There are other, more psychological, methods that give you much better information. Sensory deprivation, etc. You'd be better off creating a fake environment and convincing the guy that he's really with you and that the *other* side had erased his brain to try and turn him into a criminal or whatever.
That's why we need this device, so that she can forget to forget it. One should be issued to you when you get married, along with your marriage certificate.
C&C Red Alert came with two discs and you could lend one to a friend for multiplayer. It was great, I got tons of my friends hooked on that game that way. Some execs just "get it" and others don't...
yeah geez GP what's your problem. Doesn't everyone live near a major metropolitan area? Oh, what? they don't? Oh, sorry. (Insert retarded claim that you can use satellite instead... anyone that's *really* used satellite knows that you might as well just go back to your dial-up.)
Wow, their site is a little out of date... they have information on there about using their services if you've got a Win95/98 or NT4 box... The site's design in general is like a step back into the late 90's.
That was my point exactly. The banks aren't helping right now but they weren't even necessarily the problem. There have been many documented instances of brokers forging people's documents so that they could get loans they could never afford.
Even as a relatively money savvy geek I still found the process of getting my first house daunting to say the least. There's tons of room for people to get taken advantage of there - and it happened a lot.
The variable rate loan you got screwed with is just the start. There are people on interest only loans that aren't even paying off all of their interest. Their loan's value is actually *increasing*. Broker's got their commissions a long time ago though, so it makes no difference to them...
Could this be contributing to our global economic meltdown?
Oh geez, no, don't be totally ridiculous. I realize this is slashdot but come on. The housing crisis is largely the result of shady and illegal activity, just like the.com boom was. (Yes, it was, how else do you explain start ups convincing people they have a solid business plan and then spending all of the money on parties, furniture and lavish perks?)
The ribbon appears to be the "next big thing" in Windows UI design. The Windows 7 screens I've seen have even included redesigned Paint and Notepad with the ribbon. This is a pretty big step considering the last time Notepad and Paint were updated was... ummm... yeah, I can't even remember. I'm not saying Paint / Notepad are going to magically make Windows good again, just that they're really pushing the ribbon.
At the moment it doesn't do a whole lot for you... however, in Maximum PC this month (and other places) people have pointed out that Google's got a patent for putting data centers out at sea. Out there they'd be using containers. So using them here on land may just be a first step to eventually using them as a fast way to load up a ship with processing power.
Yeah, I actually like Office 2007 much more than 2003. Once you get over the fact that a few things are in different places you realize that the ribbon actually does allow you to do a lot of tasks more easily.
yeah, but this is a whole new level! I think if someone's capable of pirating the entire globe they should really be awarded some kind of Nobel prize but I guess Microsoft still sees it as a bad thing because it includes their software too.
I think the coupons are for $40. At least that's what the ads on public broadcasting say. As for quality, well, DTV works like all things digital... either you're getting a signal or you're not. It's not like analog where you can sort of kind of get a picture. With digital if you're not getting enough of a signal to show the picture you're not going to see the picture. So people that were getting 3 good channels and 5 crappy ones probably aren't going to see the 5 crappy ones anymore unless they buy a bigger antennae... which is kind of lame. The over-the-air HD channels that you get for free are nice though...
huh, I've had vista since Beta 2 and I've never had trouble running dual monitors on it. I've had trouble with SLI... and bad nVidia drivers... but never with dual monitors.
UAC was a good idea in theory, but in practice developers didn't write anything to work with it and you end up getting a million warnings and it sucks. Thankfully it's pretty easy to turn it off.
Network speeds are something I can't defend. I've never seen issues with Internet download speeds but if you're using a network connection to pull files from another machine it definitely sucks. SP1 fixed that (mostly).
What's really impressive is his computer setup. That's nucking futz. The trackball mice are brilliant - when you've got that many mice / keyboards you clearly don't have room to actually move your mouse... so the trackball is a great idea. Wonder how much he spent on HARDWARE just to fund this craziness.

The Governator owns a number of tanks. Including the one he drove when he was in the military.
Troll, Really? wow.

Unless you're actually talking about insurance (which I suppose you technically could) the word you're looking for is "ensure". </pedantic>
Thank God I'm not the only one around here...

What's a movie? ooooh just looked it up. Sounds interesting. I may have to try and find one and try it out.

You could fix the "who cares" part by forwarding calls to her number to the FBI or your local phone company.

Yeah... Live! search is proof that the whole, "If you build it they will come" mantra is a big lie. Curse you Kevin Costner!

Holy crap where do you live!? I paid 575 to live in a crappy two bedroom apartment - and that was relatively cheap!
Actually, it's "Grammar" not "Grammer"
- Local spelling nazi at your service.
