    1) No.

    2) Questions end with "?". You know, that funny-looking character just to the left of your right-hand shift key. You have to hold down shift to get it.

    3) Sentences must be ended with one (and only one) of the following punctuation: "." (period) "?" (question mark), or "!" (exclamation point). End a declaration with a period. End a question with a question mark. End a sentence meant to convey excitement with an exclamation point.

    4) Sentences must begin with capital letters. Use your shift key again. The only exception I'm aware of is with the name of a Unix command, e.g. "ls will list the files in the current directory.". That's a very unofficial exception.

    5) Yes, I would like fries with that.

    1) That's disappearing.

    2) It-apostrophe-s is a contraction for "it is". "Its", on the other hand, is possessive. Counterintuitive, but that's English for you.

So to recap, you should have written "disappearing up its own asshole.". Have a nice day.

I've been configuring computers to use the crap OEM wireless config utilities, only because MS's util is even worse. In particular, MS's tool doesn't show a list of all the WAPs in range; instead, it will just pick one for you.

I wish I didn't have to do this, especially on newer Dell Latitudes. With those (can't remember if these particular ones have Dell or Intel wireless) a big popup comes up every couple fscking minutes alerting you that there's a WAP nearby, wouldn't you like to connect? Now, you can turn off the onboard wireless with a physical switch, but that's different from how everyone else does it, so lusers must be Edjumicated. At least I don't deal with PhDs, heh.

If you try Ubuntu, make sure to grab and install EasyUbuntu. It installs all the proprietary/nonfree codecs like MP3 and DVD, plus stuff like Java and Flash. Ubuntu is also very good at detecting your monitor, so you shouldn't have to worry about setting X modes. Further, nVidia and ATI drivers are included in the base install and are kept synced with the installed kernel, so (to coin a phrase) It Just Works. I can't say if its mouse-detection routines work better -- mine is just a 3-button w/scroll, but that was detected immediately & works fine. Synaptic is a pretty good package manager, but I can't compare it to yum since I haven't used it.

Have you tried KDE? It has a more Windows-y interface than Gnome, which IMO is closer to Mac OS X. There's an Ubuntu distro called Kubuntu that uses KDE instead of Gnome, and EasyUbuntu works with it as well.
