As the owner of two dogs, sign me up. I demand environmental offset credits for the offal that my dogs prevent from going directly into landfills and being converted into methane. Additionally, I want additional credits for the conversion of said otherwise-useless offal and meat byproducts into environmentally useful high-grade fertilizer. And a program for harvesting this valuable resource - maybe funded by a tax on stupid university professors dumb ideas?
Denied. The dog is a fine producer of methane and the landfill is a pretty poor one. Additionally, dog feces are a public health hazard and should not be used as manure.
I also want another credit for the carbon offset from being able to turn the heat down at night - because happiness is a warm puppy. Dogs are just as good as an electric blanket. Actually, they're better - they continue to work during power failures.
Denied. The dog never turns off and is wasting its heat, as well as being an inefficient heater. In addition, the dog is obviously a workaround for the mandatory rolling blackouts This is unacceptable
Also, I should get an additional carbon credit for every kilometer I do with the dogs dragging me around on either roller blades (summer) or a sled (winter). And both investment credits and a subsidy for the purchase of a dog-drawn cart.
And for the bonus round, you can always grind up those professors who wrote this piece of trash as a quick way to make a buck; my wolf probably isn't too fussy about who he eats - he chews EVERYTHING, and I'm sure their carbon footprint is larger than his. And, since they're already producing shit, why not cut out the middle man...
Will be taken into consideration, in the meantime it is recommended you feed yourself to your pet.
If you ask me, DRM isn't even there to prevent the torrent style book piracy. Its to prevent the rampant sharing amongst friends. Makes the argument quite different in the end. You may bring forward the idea that you would lend the book to a friend in the first place. But if you could just copy it over, your book recommendation that may lead to a few sales would instead turn into a whole group of people sharing off of one purchase.
they have no idea what it takes to make money on the Internet
Compared to who, twitter? Also, the WSJ subscription service seems to actually be working and paying off from what I've heard. This success makes it hard to dismiss News Corp.'s ability to turn a profit off the net. I feel dirty defending them, however, so let me end this by saying Rupert Murdoch is an asshole.
NPR out of American University might be pissing me off with their pledge drive right now, but nothing made me happier than when Prairie Home Companion now longer polluted the airwaves.
Yeah, I've considered getting a e-reader for awhile just because I want to have tons of books and read more. The problem is, I fear I might fall into the trap of "I'm going to buy this exercise equipment so I exercise more."
Sounds like you might not like the initial adds because you've been pulled into the label of the consumer. Who else would decide to buy this straight off the bat and start the snowball than the hordes of young digg idiots LOLOLOLing at the RIAA. Ubuntu Ubuntu Ubuntu. Ron Paul 2012.
Also I have heard about the idea of a education-tax, the basic idea behind it is that education is free for the student (the government pays for the tuition fees and gives a hand-out to the student for living expenses - up to a certain period, or with performance checks on the way), but after finishing the study the student pays a percentage of their income on top of normal taxes for the education they enjoyed. The period this is paid depends on the time spent studying, e.g. three years tax for every year of higher education. Quite interesting idea; too radical though for most governments to seriously consider.
Folks take the view that education should be encouraged. Measures like that could discourage education(compared to free for everyone, tax everyone).
"a CT scan can increase the risk of lifetime cancer of about 1 in 2000" These individuals received a dose of only about 8x, and the median age was 70. Overall, chances are this won't have killed anyone.
If the wheels and the lights are enough to keep people entertained, then why aren't businesses with a bunch of wheels and lights but no gambling around? I don't think I come from a position of Solipsism when I say that.
Whining about political correctness is the same as whining about insulting someone and having them take offense.
I really do not understand how you can complain about popular opinion directed against you, and, in the same post, support a dismissal of the importance of popular opinion. Do you think before you type?
Previously I dismissed the "difference between men and women" arguments. This post made me consider that there may be another factor in that however, it is possible that men push their bosses more towards F/OSS. Still doubt its the main factor, and have no idea if its even a factor. Still something to consider.
For the time being, I doubt we will have much more than anecdotal evidence. Who is going to submit a peer reviewed study based on a properly conducted survey for the F/OSS community?
With the lack of that, we have to fall back on what we see happening in other industries and situations. My experience goes about as far as community college classes on sociology and group theory. I wouldn't trust what I say as far as you could throw me. And I'm 6'6" and over 300 pounds, so that ain't going to be far.
Great deal of goldfish don't either. I'd imagine this is the classic goldfish in a round bowl scenario.

You could if you paid some guy to set up a proxy.
I'm sure if he pirates their offering, we can still enjoy it and pay for it ourselves as well.
Makes sense when you think about it.
So nobody has to look up what the hell hes talking about: Incest.

Shameless plug, I'm writing this on a system76 notebook and couldn't be happier with it.
I'm wondering how this is news at all. It was obvious that this was a major problem with whole disk encryption.

You have too much goddamn disposable income.

Would make more sense to have a backup battery.
No kidding, its not like man in the middle attacks wouldn't happen on self hosted email.

Yeah but if you haven't been training your medical skill, it won't do much. Might not even lower it by 1 rad per second.
John Stuart Mills fanboi.

Right, but in this case the suspension of disbelief can be directly harmful.
