    Furthermore, if the works are done to be works, rather than coming from faith, they are "dead works," not works, and achieve nothing anyway.

    Which makes Luther's whole distinction pointless: both the Catholic version and his stated that works *would* come from faith. When A=>B, arguing whether it is A=>C or (A AND B)=> C is merely semantics . . .

    It helps to have a Nobel prize and write one of the most common textbooks for a principals class . . . the two or three largest selling econ texts produce serious money for the authors, but aside from that . . .

    Ity seems that all the books in my fields (statistics, economics) have gone to a three year cycle, with no purpose other than to defeat used textbooks. I've told book reps that I'd take the next book with a wirtten guarantee that it would stay in print for five years, ant they're just not interested.

    I've responded by allowing prior editions. In my stat syllabi, there are even alternate homework sets for prior editions.

    Also, most (but not all) universities have hoops to jump through before a professor can use his own book. These tend to involve giving up the royalties or proving that there is no viable alternative.

    About ten years ago, driving through Califorinia's central valley, a DJ announced "KGARTH---all Garth, all the time."

    I figured it for a gag, making fun of the overplaying of the singer of the week as he played a couple in a row.

    At about the fourth song, the joke was old, and I found another station (for crying out loud, he only had 2 or 3 albums at the time!).

    An hour or two later I checked (morbid curiosity). They were *still* playing Garth Brooks.

    Last time I checked, it was about a dollar a page to print photos if you used good consumables.

    Wally-world charges 19c a print, compared to the three that you can fit on a page.

    Plus you get the usual bits about that one slightly jammed jet that puts a streak on the page, or . . .

    It now costs *more* to print 4x6 at home. However, 5x7 and up still cost less--at least if they come out right on hte first try.
