  1. X64? on In Test, Windows 7 Vulnerable To 8 Out of 10 Viruses · · Score: 1

So which version of Windows 7 was tested? TFA does not specify. Was it X64?

  2. I'll tell you who on Who Installs the Most Crapware? · · Score: 4, Insightful

    Who installs the most crapware?

    My mother does.

  3. So? on Leaked Modern Warfare 2 Footage Causes Outrage · · Score: 3, Insightful

I heard there's a game where you can carjack people and then run them over with their own car, leaving blood streaks on the road. You can then pull your car up to a prostitute, pay for her services, then get out of the car and cave her skull in with a baseball bat and take your money back.

Kinda makes the getting shot with a gun seem a little nicer by comparison.

Actually, not a bad way to poison a bot's intelligence. Its been done before, with hilarious results (well, if you like 4chan-style humor), with a chatbot called Bucket. It was designed to pick up the basics of the English language and conversation techniques from random internet users.

    Then 4chan found it.

http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Bucket has the full story, along with quotes and screenshots.

I've been hard-working member of an IT staff for a while now, and I do sometime feel as though all the glory has been sucked out of a "glory hole" of some sort.

We really should have a staff meeting about it. Firm action is clearly needed.

I have an idea that I think could help keep Slashdot from embarrassing itself even more than failing to ask Blizzard about bnetd - use a spellchecker.

  12. Fuck Wikipedia. on Wikipedia Approaches Its Limits · · Score: 4, Insightful

I stopped contributing to Wikipedia years ago. If you write an article, no matter how well-written, there's a good chance over 9,000 deletionists will pop up and go "HURR HURR NOT NOTABLE" and either speedy delete, prod, AfD, or some combination of the above. Those who cannot create instead focus on destroying.

  14. None of the above. on What's In an Educational Game? · · Score: 1

I'm looking to have fun in a way that is utterly disconnected from the real world. Civ4 is about as "educational" as I'd be willing to mess with. It gives you the history behind the units and buildings in the civilopedia, but that history is 100% optional to look at. If the game stopped me with a message like "Did you know that ancient bronze-age spears can take down a B-17 bomber if they're thrown real hard?" it would come across as obtrusive and/or preachy.

Who, exactly? Anyone who doesn't know what they're doing will blindly buy anything. Anyone who DOES know what they're doing will install any OS they like.

Or was the submitted actually suggesting that netbook buyers were actually LOOKING for Vista?

Anonymous hates people, but loves cats (as evidenced by Caturday and the entire "lolcats" phenomena). Their most recent target is the evil Cheyenne Cherry, who put a kitten in an oven and roasted it alive. Anonymous went through a lot of effort to get as much info as possible, but jumped the gun at first. The NY Daily News reported a 75-yo retiree with a similar name had her phone number posted, and the result? "They're all saying, 'You'll burn in hell,' 'Who the hell do you think you are?'" Bernadette Cherry, 72, said of the 75 calls from cat lovers."
