Interesting post, I would say most of the contact I have had with environmentalists where with the extremists. To the point where I do not want to be called one, or be considered one, but what you are saying is more along the lines of what I think the way it should be. One has to look at the whole picture. Do you have a web site that I can look at for more information about your approach? Thanks for your time.

We Christians do share the faith on the net, but like non-believers, we don't like spam either, so what we do is put up web sites. For example my churches site is www.FirstTrinity.net and a Christian radio station I like that is streamed over the net is at www.kfuo.org. Both have 2 propose, one to spread the messaged to non-believers, and two to give believers some info about what is going on at the church or some entertainment. So there is no need to use spam, besides spam will just be deleted, if some one ends up at the web sites, they got there on their own so they have a high chance of actually reading what is put up there.

Be careful on how you implement this, there will always a group of people that will not be able to use the feature. Lets take you example of yahoo registration, which is a word that is done via a picture. Well there is a group of people that have trouble registering at yahoo, the group of people who have that problem are the blind. I remember I had to go over to a friends place to help him register for yahoo because their screen reader can not read a image.
How could there be a group of people that have problems with that, well lets take some one that might be mute, they can hear but can not talk but they have a TTY setup but that can not work on the collect call, so they have a recoding of a person saying "yes" to accept now the call is complete and they can hook up their TTY devices and continue on.

I found that Jabra makes a bluetooth headset for non-bluetooth phones, but it only works for audio it does not do data. Here is the response I got from them when I asked about the headset.

The Bluetooth profile supports audio but not data. Sorry.

Also if I read the article correctly we could just hook up our swage systems to the factories and have tons of oil produced a day. Of course the gas companies might not like it one bit, it will drop the price of oil to record lows, if it is very cheap to make. One question will we get paid for the shit we produce now??

People Please have a real busness model to work with. The economy is shity as it is, we do not need you to do the same thing that happened in the dotcom time frame to do more harm to the economy. What I mean just don't start a WiFi company and expect that you will become rich with out doing any work. First look at the market you are looking at and see if the market will support the company, not all places will generat enoph revenue to justify the startup of a WiFi company. Also remember you will have to secure the network ( may I suggest pppoe ). Why do I say this, because you don't want just any one to use your network with out paying you. No the internet should not be free (as in beer). Before fire off you flame or mod me down let me explane first. The internet has costs associated with it, bandwithe is not free, the needed hardware is not free, then there is the mantance of the hardware, then there is the security level. All of these will add costs to the setup. A company will have to bring in a large sum of money to cover even a small matropistic area. Also are you going to use only one of the wireless tech, customers might want all of them, there that costs even more. I would say that it would be best to use only 802.11g, yes the costomer will have to shell out a large sum of money upfront for the technology, but the company could save on a few less access points. Plus less physical hardware to setup, and access when something goes wrong. And less in the form rent the the owner of the location.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to see this happen in my area but there are many considerations to take into account.
I would like to ask how much you are going to charge for the access. You will have to charge a high e enough prices to make a profit but not so high that people will find it cost too much for them, thus making it only a nitch market for us geeks.

I would say that the application will dictate the size needed. For mp3s you will need larger sized flash memory (with this I went with a 20Gb Hard Drive mp3 play because all the flash memory ones were to small). With a PDA that is used only as an organizer, you can get away with a cheaper smaller one. (Here I have only 32Mb total storage on my pda, but I also use it for a bit more then just an organizer, I also have a map, ebooks on it[see below] and internet applications on it[web, email and aim] ). For an ebook reader you probably can get way with 8Mb (I use my palm pilot for my ebook reader, but still prefer a paper book much better then an ebook, The only books I have are books that I don't read as a book but are there for reference, and use only 5Mb) So I would say the function will dictate what size will be needed.

I read on it that they want to put copy protected mp3s on it, I not sure this can be done, BUT (this is a big but here) If a normal mp3 play can play them (and in this I mean that if the ones already on the market can play them, and all OS can read and play them) then I don't see the problem, they are giving us what we want, we will have the mp3s for our players and our computers. And the small artists can still put their music out on the net for people to try out. I for one say this is a win-win, also I will not have to spend the time ripping all the tracks, I can just copy the pre-encoded mp3s. I say it is win-win because the RIAA gets the protection they want, and we get our mp3s.

I think for the benefit of the Iraq people it would be best to either, us the existing standard and what the surrounding countries use. But if they want some of the benefits of the CSMA as they say in the article, they should at lest do a dual implantation of it. Why? Well so the Iraq people can chose what standard they want, the one they don't go for will by default die away, I am sure they probably will not go for CDMA since it would not be useful outside for the boarders of Iraq. Can CDMA and GSM phones exist in the same area? That is the big question that could stand in the way of my idea. But this is all thinking and we should be consternating more on the war that is going on now then rebuilding, yes we also have to look at humanitarian aid now, but that is still different from rebuilding.
