If theres something I can't live without [ie a sting album, and he's a media whore so I know he'll be the first guy out there with copy protection], I'll download the MP3 and be a pirate:D.
Download the MP3 from who?
If it's protected, what makes you think you'll be able to get MP3s of your favorite tracks? Sure this 'copy-protection' scheme will have a work-around, but I can imagine it would put a large dent in how many copies are floating around Kazaa.
in some organizations the costs associated with a specially locked room, time/money/effort maintaining boxes is more cost than percieved risk that some internal user in a 50 person company may decide to try to hack sendmail 8.9.
Of course most places that have a locked computer room can administer those boxes via ssh anyway from the comfort of their desk and not the teeth-chattering cold of the computer room in winter. So you can indeed lock a machine away physically and just communicate with it over the network to do everything you need. Remote administration of UNIX machines, firewalls, routers, switches, UPSs is a great thing.
I do heartily disagree about the software expiry thing too. I like to have nice stable systems and know that the versions of the software I'm using are tried and tested. I use Debian. apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade for security updates is great and beyond that I don't need any help keeping software up to date, even software I compile myself (e.g. Apache, mod_ssl, PHP, MySQL etc.). That's what announcement mailing lists are for if you don't want to keep checking the websites yourself!:)
PS: Noone in their right mind should be running sendmail anyway:>.. QMail rules!
Nah, just a decent Linux box running Samba and lprng, works very nicely thanks - AND I don't have to worry about it crashing and losing all the users' files.
Bah.. and ICANN's stupid form comes back with 'the following fields are blank: sessionid'.. stupid lot.
I guess you can email the address registrar-info@icann.org and complain about verisign. It's crap they're sending out those mailings, I've had some of them too.
Noone at your company thought of using something like Citrix terminal server? if you NEED windows that is.. A nice Linux desktop 'terminal server' type approach would be even easier to maintain.
The Amiga's math capability was limited, so 3D was bound to be better on the 386 (probably you had a 386 with a 387 maths co-processor). Anything before the Motorola 68040 had to have a 68881 or 68882 maths co-pro to be decent in maths at all. When you got to 486's at 100Mhz or so, the PC just pulled away from the Amiga in that department.
Vista Pro was fun.. the reason I got a 68030 + 68882 for my old A1200.. ah, the days:)
I'd be happy with just ONE static IP at home and just NAT the rest:)
Who the fuck cares about toasters and answering machines? And besides, if they come in on certain ports for like answering machines, forward those ports to said machine.
Instead of a room full of people working away furiously using mouse and keyboard - (grinning and laughing inanely when they frag their opponents) we will have a room full of people just sitting there (still grinning and laughing inanely when they frag their opponents).
Everyone just head towards the pillar of light from the reflected sunlight of a billion DVD/CD discs.
If you arranged them around the sides of the grand canyon and focused them on the center, you could probably get the whole thing to ignite.
And if someone deletes the CVS repository? ... Anarchy!!! :D

(R)edundant (A)rray of (I)nexpensive (D)isks.
3) Band Aid was a fund raising concert for starving people in africa.
No, that was 'Live Aid'.
Surely if these are valid Trade Marks, then there's nothing wrong with Mozilla, Bugzilla-the-defect-control-mechanism, or Davezilla.
Maybe they asked permission first?
Since Dr Evil said it that way in Austin Powers :) ... Humor, you know? :)
Yea right, Sony saying sorry..
Whatever.
You think they'd use their heads.

No, MCSEs are so stupid you CAN get them to line up in a row first.
MS servers are ideal for file print servers

We don't have a single windows server here.

No no no .. QMail .. only use sendmail if you don't mind running around after security alerts.
.. on Debian Linux, of course.
Yes, QMail is nice
Or use QMail and have a nice, peaceful, time of it all.
Yea, they sell you new eyes when you screw yours up trying to read their website.
:>
Makes perfect sense.

I agree with you.. Sounds like public safety to me :D

Surreal.
We are Counterstrike of Borg.
Imagine, MS having a monopoly on Spam!
As long as I read my mail with Pine, they're quite welcome to it too...
Reminds me of the HOTAIR: Postal Experiments, which was on Slashdot a while ago.
They actually managed to send a brick, but yes, it had to be wrapped.
Hmm.. I posted my 'go figure post' before seeing yours. :) It is kinda amusing how the Amish seem to be embracing technology..
Yea, at least I've seen Amish people with cell phones.
Go figure.
