That thing you read was one of those no-story headline-and-a-picture things on The Onion. The headline was something like "Jonathan Lipnicki confirmed to play Dark Helment in Spaceballs Prequel" and it was accompanied by a headshot of the kid. It stuck in my head because I thought it was hilarious.

(That's the same kid from Jerry Maguire, you might remember.)

But yeah, The Onion, so no ground in fact.

My understanding is that MGS:TTS is just a remix of the original MGS (MGS1 plot with MGS2-style enhancements). My college roommate had the original and it looked like he was having fun. I remember much of it, actually (he beat it like 5 times), and I think the voice tracks are still the same even.

I still don't really understand... it looked fun! I passively watched a number of sessions of my roommate playing it! But it sucks so hard! I guess I'll just have to write off fans like you as a group of people I don't understand, like Creed fans and Star Wars prequel apologists.

Thanks for the tip on MGS for GBC, though. I'll have to look into that one.

Here's some advice: Take "MGS: The Twin Snakes" and sell it back. You'll save yourself endless cinema scenes (more time spent in cinema than gameplay) of terrible voice-acting and plot, and numerous rooms of not really engaging gameplay.

I know someone's going to mod me as troll or flamebait, but I bought this game since everyone raves about the series. I couldn't stand it. I kept playing, thinking that maybe it would get better, but it didn't. After beating Psycho Mantis, I finally came to my senses and quit and sold it. I couldn't even play long enough to get to the second disc! Is the whole series this bad?

I loved the NES Metal Gear, by the way.

I always thought referring to USA citizens as "United Staters" or simply "Staters" sounds much less dumb. As far as the adjective form, "US" alone works just fine.

Can you imagine having to be nice to Comic Book Guy, because his spending money is what you make in a year? And he can insult you fluently in your native tongue?

"Uh, yeah, but so's that one. And it's $200 cheaper, and it has some good games, and you won't break it while changing games."

"Are you gonna pay for the 200-minute plan? Oh, I forgot, you're ten. You're getting a GBA. Shut up and play Pokemon Fuschia. That's what all your friends are playing anyway. And what do you need a cell phone for?"

Maybe the N-Gage will sell in big cities and among technophiles, but I don't think it's gonna fly among the Wal-mart crowd.

  14. Skip the next gen. on Gloomy Outlook For Console Sales · · Score: 3, Interesting

Well, duh, consoles don't often need to be rebought; of course sales can't be maintained at high levels. But I think there might be a bigger picture.

How long was it after these systems came out that people were already wondering about the PS3? It seems like we're always getting ready for the next big thing. The problem I have is that it seems like we're not using our current stuff to it's full potential. The cycle seems to move too fast.

I personally would be in favor of the big three just skipping the next generation and doing their best to work on the generation after that. Wait until we're running out of new ground to break on the GCN/PS2/XBox before we start rolling out new stuff.

As a side benefit, maybe toward the end of the cycle we'll see more better games come out instead of unfun flashy graphics, as by then we won't be as awed by the graphics that the system is capable of. And we also get to save money on that system we won't have to buy.

Unfortunately, the nature of the market means that the next gen systems will come as soon as possible to beat the other guys. Too bad the big three all can't agree to not release systems before some future release date. The could make some big media event of it: Fifth-gen release day! Geeks everywhere salivate in anticipation!

Really, I think the best thing would be for companies agree to such a date privately, and then not talk about next generation systems whatsoever, so that we keep demanding support of the current systems as long as possible instead of anticipating the next big thing. (That would probably be some kind of anti-trust collusion thing, though.) There were some great late era NES and Super NES games, but nobody was paying attention anymore when they came out.

I know many won't agree with me. Please reply.

My friend's wife's family had a liquor store just north of the county line; they made a killing on Sunday, especially when New Year's Eve was on a Sunday. (Poor store burned down a couple months ago, but they're rebuilding!)

I'm pretty sure you can't buy adult magazines on the newstand in Ottawa County either.

Granted, new stuff is usually on sale to some extent, but if you don't buy it a month after it comes out, it costs $19.99 (unless it's old and/or crap enough that it hits the cheap bin).

Myself, I don't buy new CDs anymore. Used CD stores are where it's at. My music costs $8-10 bucks/disc and I usually find what I'm looking for after 2 or 3 visits.

I don't understand how mall stores can stay in business anyway, when there's usually a Best Buy or K-Mart nearby that will beat their prices by about 4 bucks.

    Serves 'em right.

I want to say that it was in Detroit somewhere, but I don't remember. It was at some Museum. Anyway, it rocked.

And then I saw "Beauty and the Beast" on IMAX at Chicago's Navy Pier. (Hey, my girlfriend wanted to see it. Lay off.) I was incredibly disappointed. Does the Navy Pier setup just suck, or is that indicative of IMAX in general? It was like a huge normal screen that I was seated too close to. None of that immersive experience I remember from when I was 8.

Is that all IMAX really is? Do I just suck?

Okay, this is almost on-topic, but if 70% of pages weren't coded so badly with poor html tools that fill html code with useless extra text, textual parts of the web would load probably 5 times faster anyway.

Christ, the simple proper use of CSS instead of old-school font tags can reduce a page's size considerably. And you're browser will probably render it quicker, too.

Actually, I think html pre-cleaners at the ISP side would be kinda neat (as long as they can be disabled at the user's desire). Hmm... Microsoft could capitalize on FrontPage's shitty html-generation... they could optimize their server software to fix for their crap FP-pages....
