  1. _All_ MPAA ratings are only advisory on Revenge of the Sith a "Blood Bath" · · Score: 2, Interesting

Why single out PG-13... _all_ MPAA ratings are jsut advisory notations with no legal basis.

It is not illegal for a youngster to go to an R movie. It is not illegal for theatres (or anyone else) to show R movies to youngsters.

I think only in the last 10 years have theatres started to really enforce the age restrictions. But these are internal policies, not law.

Additionally, I believe there's no law prohibiting youngsters from seeing NC-17 movies based on rating alone. If the NC-17 movie contains pornography, of course, then that would be punishable under other laws.

    (IANAL, of course)

$20 for a controller that only works with 1 or 2 games is over-priced. 'nuff said,

No, not "'nuff said". You sound like you think you have the definative gamer opinion. Surprise, dude, you don't. Maybe you can't afford them on your allowance, but somebody must be buying them, because they keep making them.

And what over-priced controller trick are you talking about? Whenever Nintendo has released a specialized controller in the past, the controller+game combo price has not been more than $20 beyond that of a standard high-end game, and I don't think any have even been that much, except maybe the SNES SuperScope.

I think I'm pretty well-rounded and don't see any grand deficiencies in my skills, other than my relative youth.

Like GameCrazy - I love that place. They have old school games! And the employees are familiar with them! (At least, at the one near me!)

I recently grabbed my bro's Genesis and got a replacement SNES from eBay... there's just something really appealing about the classics. Maybe it's because I'm old. I also got a NES and 2600.

That's just stupid. Businesses can't afford to keep rereleasing the same stuff if there's no longer a great demand for it. At the very least, warehousing is expensive.

Look at Disney's home video scheme. Every 10 years, they pull something out of "the vault" and sell it for awhile. Are you saying they shouldn't be able to do this? The law should force them to continually make and stock copies of everything they ever produced?

When you produce a run, you lose (units*prod_cost). Every sale reduces this by (price). When MS loses money on a unit, that means (price I stand by my original conclusion: buying an XBox and no software to spite MS is dumber than not buying it in the first place.

  12. Re:Constantine on Joss Whedon to Write/Direct Wonder Woman · · Score: 1

I'm a fan of the comic Hellblazer that it's based on. Whether his performance was good or not (haven't seen it, but most accounts I've heard, good or bad, say he was the weakest link in the cast), he is perhaps the most un-Constantine-like actor they could have chosen. It's not that he's not British and not blond and doesn't look like Sting. That's not what I'm talking about.

It's that Keanu constantly has an innocent, stunned quality that is the antithesis of the character. Keanu shines (comparatively) when his character is thrown into something he's not ready for and knows nothing about and is supposed to portray that. Unfortunately, John Constantine is not one of those characters. If John is thrown into something, he acts cocky and comes up with a half-cocked plan that will somehow risk or cost the life of someone who trusts him. If Keanu did a good job, I'd say that the screenplay disrespected the source material.

For some creepy shit, pick up the Hellblazer: Son of Man collection by Garth Ennis.

This was probably 10 years ago (him and my brother would have been in 5th or 6th grade), but one interesting bit of trivia is that he was the butt of jokes by the other kids. A bunch of the neighbor kids were into collecting basketball cards. Some of the crueler ones would put common cards back into the pack and glue the top together, and they'd sell or trade them to Adam.

As I heard about this through my brother, it was portrayed that Adam was hella gullible. One pack had a card from the wrong brand in it (e.g. a Topps card in an Upper Deck pack); the other kids told him that it must be some error and might be more valuable. Whether the kid actually believed it or just went along to avert more bullshit is a question for him.

Stories like this were pretty common, and I wonder what that does to a kid, having no good friends around.

Now, I'm not saying that's an excuse; he's a total stupidass for what he did.

The GBA has a number of titles that can be link-played with only one cartridge. Usually, you can only play mini-games or other small features this way.

For instance, in my Kirby & the Amazing Mirror game (which rocks by the way), there are 3 mini-games that can be played up to 4 player with only one cart.

You can also play the main game with 4 players, but for that each player needs a cart, which makes sense, as each player can explore the whole game world simultaneously. The slave GBAs would need to load pretty much the whole game world off of the master, or at least a sub-world at a time.

I can't think of any other games that can link without more carts, but I know I've read about some in the past. I believe some of the Mario ones, and perhaps the Zelda one.
