well, it depends on your definition of populated. If I live alone in the middle of the wilderness, how much area do I populate? an acre? a square mile? the square footage of my log cabin?
Yes but it doesn't have to be for each possible game (which by the way is infinite), just each possible board position, which is very finite. Someday there will be a database of best moves for each position and the only way to beat a computer will be to come up with a better move for a position than the 'best move' in the database.
The idea is that if it has a name like Patriot Act people wont see it as being the same old silly government taking away the same old silly civil rights
well sure they could've called it the 'Big Brother Act' but how far do you think that would have went?
dreamcast used this sort of copy-protection (along w/ extra capacity gd-roms). then along came disk-juggler which could copy the physical structure and it was history.
I wonder how many cd-rom drives will be broken with this system.
That screenshot looked really nice -> much nicer than the RH8 screenshots I saw last week, I'm thinking about trying it (I haven't used linux since RH5). but the prices are confusing me. is it still possible to download a bootable disk image for free that I can burn and install from? any urls?
Exactly. Far from the heavy metal bad ass image they would have wanted, Metallica came off like a grumpy old man telling the neighborhood kids to get off his yard. Where was Lars' PR guy and why wasn't anybody listening to him?
what if your camera makes insanely large photos and you would prefer to have them at 1024x768 or smaller?
just change your dpi. 1800x1200 at 300 dpi is a standard size photo. odds are your camera won't have enough MP to print a full sized 8.5x11 sheet of paper (without interpolation).
Let's say you're a 14 year old kid and you're running a pirated copy of windows vs. a legal copy of linux. What happens when you grow up and get an IT job for a small company? you recommend using windows because you're familiar with it. The same is true for productivity software (office,photoshop...) but not games and definitely not music.
MIT has just about everything a student needs, you didn't need all of that stuff. Are you a kleptomaniac?
You must have missed the part where he was giving it away. Maybe the thought of kids growing up in the ghetto but with a copy of photoshop 7 helped him sleep at night. I'm not saying it's right, but I can understand the motive.
hate him all you want, but he's got be the most successful retard in history

but it's the number of possible game-states that's important, not the number of possible games because if you know the proper move for each state that will result in a draw every time you have the 'perfect play' that they're talking about here.
I would consider donating some free time as long as I DIDN'T have to do it from home.

We live in a capitalist environment, and we should allow the mechanics of capitalism work.
We live (Americans) in an environment that has already adopted the ADA. Why? because the mechanics of capitalism can't be trusted.
And I think you'll be singing a different tune when you're 80 and your rascal can't make it into the local supermarket.
I've always been partial to Span King.
So, why would white would be an advantage? Is it because white moves first? Or is there something more involved?
The first few moves decide what kind of game it will be. If you know your opponent's strengths and weaknesses it can be a very big advantage.

the last chip I buy until this blows over will be the fastest one that doesn't have this crap in it. can you tell me which one that will be?
The screens look better and use less power because they do not need a separate lighting source
imagine a gameboy with a bright screen that doesn't drain batteries *sweet*
you may already be an expert on slack.

Good point, outsider. If he'd only stayed in his seat he'd still be alive today.
:)
yes, but only if he got an *extra life*
He then went to the toilet where he later was found dead
why wasn't this story called "Go to the toilet... and die!?"
in that case you're forgetting about the meaty cheesy boys
The Monkees weren't a boy band so much as a postmodern satire of the Beatles
how were the Beatles not a boy band? at first I mean, not after they got all artsy

If there turns out to be a medical benefit to playing violent video games then we might have to worry about them being regulated by the FDA :(
yes some children probably shouldn't be playing quake, it depends on the personality type I guess. that's what parenting is for anyway.

How many pyramids have Westerners built?
Here they're called 'skyscrapers'.

Your wife will probably think it's sweet if you go out and buy Bejeweled for her, too.
:)
if she's been playing a pirate copy you can tell everyone you 'made an honest woman out of her'
