  5. Hire a DBA on Horizontal Scaling of SQL Databases? · · Score: 1

Most of the time, when someone says they're having trouble scaling their database, it's a case of a developer that has an incorrectly configured database. Installing MySQL is easy, but configuring it is VERY difficult. That's why you need a person with very specialized knowledge to properly configure a database for efficiency or throughput or whatever you're going for in your specific case.

It would be like saying that anyone can go to a hardware store, buy some lumber, and nail them together to create a rudimentary shelter, but if you want a *house*, something that will weather the elements and keep you warm and comfortable and secure, you need to hire a professional carpenter.

Actually, that's the issue. Google hasn't *officially* released 2.2 Froyo yet in OTA form (for the Nexus One which I have, the OTA is coming directly from Google), or as source code.

They *HAVE* released the 2.2 SDK, but that's for developing apps, which is separate from the OS itself.

Technically, yes, an individual could grab the unofficially released source and compile it for themselves. In reality, most people use a specific distro...In my case, I use CyanogenMod, which has announced that it will not start hacking on Froyo code until there's an official source release.

Gameplay-wise, it's not a bad game, but from a technical standpoint, it's a train-wreck (the PC version at least).

The memory usage is off the charts, even leaving Left 4 Dead in the dust, and L4D *loves* memory and cpu.

And the multiplayer is a joke. There is no anti-cheating system in place, and no dedicated server is available, so one of the players must host the server. Worse yet, once a round ends, the hosting player must re-launch it every time, so you can't just set it up and walk away.
