Russian General: They can't launch their missiles. They signed the agreement!
Seriously though, IMHO this move is to make the Russians feel comfortable with the US and ease their feelings about a missile shield, etc. As crazy as it sounds Russia really does think the US could strike first and try to take out it's old foe. It's not crazy to the people in charge. They feel a bit weak and are trying to make a come back in strength. You can see this with increased force strength, updating weapons, and the military probing of it's enemies cold-war style by flying bombers into places they shouldn't really be, unless they want to send a message. That message is - we're a strong Russia and we're still here.
The second benefit of this is to simply ease proliferation. The idea that we'll be at our knees if we cut our nuclear forces is incorrect. Our conventional forces might get bogged down playing policeman in the desert. But total war? You better buy your coffins in bulk because war is all the US is good at. If the battle goes asymmetrical, we have plenty of capabilities that area now, from fighting wars since the 50s.
So eliminating the nuclear weapons now, while they are still under control, is a good thing. Imagine a collapsed US due to some disaster. Those nukes would then be up for grabs. Just like when the USSR collapsed. Never a good thing.
Besides, do you really think that is the ace up their sleeve these days? I can't imagine what insane weapons they have stashed away awaiting Armageddon
This has to go down as one of the best ever. If they evacuated it would've been insane. This teaches you to be skeptical of "truths" handed to you on a platter by the media.
I tell you what though - they'd never try this in Saudi Arabia. They'd end up executed for sorcery.
Yeah no doubt. Can you imagine how quickly your health records would make it to the data exchanges they use now to trade personal information? Facebook would wet it's pants. I see you suffer from migraines so you should friend Bayer Aspirin!
I think the problem comes from the culture. The warrior culture doesn't tolerate weakness. Failure is weakness. So it must be hidden. Because image = power in every sense. A lot of our culture is built around this, lack of tolerance for failure. it leads to ignoring truth - the main one being that people make mistakes. Sometimes really really big ones.
Yeah I sure wish someone would point out all the huge innovation Apple is doing because I don't see much. Unless the innovation is in their hype machine, because that is top notch. They execute well yes, but innovate more than MS? I'm not so sure. MS R&D is huge and filled with top notch scientists.
He was referring to the climate model software written by CRU, I cou;dn't find an actual name for it but I did find the read me and along with it a great write up on why "open source science" would've helped avoid this scandal:
So pointing out a flaw in software being used to model the climate is being a "denier"? Well count me in. I deny that software works properly sir because it's a fact. Reviewing with a critical eye a process that could change the world, well that is wise not foolish.
It's "you" people that scare the shit out of me. "Consensus" has removed the ability to disagree apparently. Attacking critical thinking is not part of science. Climate science is becoming a religion and it makes me want to puke.
Ahem, gun collections are well within the realm of nerds. Just ask ESR, or me. I have a collection and yes I keep them around to kill men, not animals. I got guns.. ooooooh be scared. <insert scooby doo ghost laugh here>
Dimensions are user defined so the 4th dimension could technically be any dimension you wanted to quantify. Think of it as an attribute of the space you want to define.
If we're using time as the 4th dimension, which seems fairly standard, then games like Braid or Forza 3 (and probably mnany others) have already conquered this dimension, allowing one to "back up" in time or "move forward".
The only way to control everyone on the planet is to claim that you are steward of the planet, the protector. It's for the good of humanity I put you in a cage, honest.
Those 13 episodes correspond to the book Cosmos, a great read. It gets more in-depth than the series could and it has his writing style, which inspires it's own inspiration. I don't agree with all of his politics, but I cannot deny the power of attraction that Sagan provides to this day. Even while disagreeing I can easily read his work. It's that good.
Here's how it will go down: "Flash CS4 - Now with HTML5!"
They will fall back on their design environment to create HTML 5 compliant applications and continue to sell to the more design-oriented customer. So of course they aren't worried. They'll just use HTML 5 output and sell to their already established base.
The good news is, now that the tax payers are footing the bill, we can tell everyone what to do. What to eat, how to drive, how to think. It's gonna be great!
Yes I understand that. What I really meant was the focus on visual cues using icons and links in place of an input text area. I'd love to type in "cinema" to a text box than drag down a drop down menu with 100 different categories. Just one example of where the keyboard is overlooked in favor of the mouse. I'm not a UI expert though so maybe I'm completely off. They try to water everything down to pictures and clicks it seems.

Your lack of faith in the star wars franchise is disturbing. [force choke]

I just rescued an unemployed council member! Please help me by sending me a were-pig or pork knight to entertain him.

It's a Hemptronics 3000 with a bubbler CPU. I like how the glass turns colors over time.

It depends. How long is your SAT? If it's over 10 inches then yes.
"Trust" - an ancient word meaning whale's vagina apparently.
