    From what I understand of it(which is very little, I'll admit): It started with a random bit of code to generate a polygon. It then "mutated" that bit code a bit and used the "mutated" version to render a few polygons. Next, it compared the polygons to the "master image". If they were found to be more "true" to the master image, this bit of modified code was kept to begin the next iteration.

    So, while there is randomness involved, it also follows a specific guide(the master image), within its limitations.

    I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong.

    that Spore would require a more persistant check than once daily.

    One of the main draws, for me, was the ability to populate the game universe with the creations of other people(A single-player MMORPG, as they say).

    Is this not the case, anymore?

    Or is this just bitching about there being a "Legit Check" every 10 days, among all the other connecting that should be going on?

    Wasn't the pass done under a non-default mode?

    From webstandards.org:

    On my box it's currently taking around 450MB. I usually kill it when it gets to around 700MB. Maybe it's because I use GMail and Yahoo! Mail open all the time?

    Madness.

    Mine's sitting at 68MB as I type this.

    No tweaking of any sort. Just now hit 70MB

    Run NoScript, too.

    Imagine a macbook powered by something like this, 45nm, 8 cores, low power usage, cheap... it'd outstrip every laptop known to man.


    or a group of them! a "cluster", if you will. maybe, for a lark, you could name this cluster after some mythical hero of old. that would be awesome.

    imagine a gilgamesh cluster of those! I prefer the genji cluster, myself.

    Sitting upon my desk, containing a 250GB hard drive, is a nice(IMO) NexStar 3 enclosure.

    Connect it to the computer via USB2.0. Connect the drive(no need to actually place it in the enclosure) and you're good to go.

    I thought TrueCrypt had this capability, at least on encrypted "containers".

    Basically, if you put in password1, you get one set of data decrypted(and shown). If you put in password2, you get a completely different set of data.

    Seems like a good way to get past these issues...assuming I'm remembering right. ;)

    that your equipment doesn't have wooden knobs.

    Also, you'll find your aural experience greatly improved if the wires are of high quality and raised slightly above floor level. I've also noticed marked improvements if you chill the wires(and generally keep the room cool). Cool equipment = warm sound. Who knew?

    It's called the auralgasm setup for a reason!

    Give Th' Legendary Shack Shakers a shot. Not my favorite site in the world, but there's a few samples there. Can also find a few albums out in torrent form. Maybe not quite your style, but I'd recommend at least a couple listens. Apparently they have a killer live show.

    Trivia: That's one of two sites I visit with 'cock' anywhere in the name. The other's cockeyed.com
